Playstation Portable (PSP)

Today I decided to put up my PSP game collection and I will say I am shocked at how many I actually have. I decided to also put a page up on here to show what I have to possibly help strike up some conversation. I have not played all of the PSP games I have, I mean I have only beat four of them out of the 44 I have. So that is certainly saying something about me...gamer ADD I call it.

The Playstation Portable is one of my favorite handheld systems. I actually still own the original PSP, the first version that was released. Compared to the other versions you can certainly see and tell the differences. The first version honestly is not the greatest build of the PSP. It does have a lot of flaws such as the power button on the side making it easy to accidentally shut off the system. There is also the fact it weighs a lot more than the newer editions. It also makes a lot more noise when you are loading a UMD, from what I have heard I believe the later versions run the UMD a lot quieter.

Visual History of PSP Models:

PSP-1000
PSP-2000
PSP-3000
PSPGo
PSP-E1000

Each PSP Model were different in various ways, but they essentially all do the same thing. The PSPGo though I believe was the only one that does a bit more than the other models.

It has come out with a lot of great JRPGs and other assorted genres. It makes me sad that it has not been that popular in the states though and made more impact in Japan. With this having been done it made a lot of great games not make it to the states from Japan. Although I applaud companies such as XSeed for bringing over some amazing games from Japan such as Corpse Party, Ys, Legend of Heroes and more.

Though with the Vita out, I appreciate how they are still making games available for the PSP for us that do not own a Playstation Vita yet or never will own one. I think there are a few more PSP games scheduled to be released in 2013 as well, I believe though it's going to start slowing down soon since the Vita is out now and it should hopefully be picking up more momentum which will mean less and less PSP based games. Granted I have the feeling they will probably allow most of the games coming out still that are not Vita only to be playable on the PSP such as the Minis and continue having the PSone Classics allowable. But I just think either by the end of this year or maybe even possibly beginning of next year there won't be any strictly PSP released games. I could be totally wrong too about this, but I feel since they have the Vita out it will be taking over. In a way it seems like the same thing happened with the Nintendo DS when the Nintendo 3DS came out. They were still making DS games and then it started to die out and more 3DS games came.

I will certainly miss the PSP when it's time has come to 100% pass. I will still keep mine though since I have learned the hard way about selling handhelds and then needing them again. You never know when it will need to be used again!

I love my PSP too.  I play it almost every day. IT's a great system for JRPG's especially when you consider the PSONE classics. That said, I do want a Vita.  I think the new Ys will be a major milestone, cause it's the first really, under the radar, niche JRPG coming out, hopefully the first of many.

Since I am a HUGE JRPG fan, that is one of the many reasons I love the PSP. I am hoping the Vita continues to bring out amazing JRPGs as well. I still have yet to get one of my own but I am planning to get myself one in the near future. Hopefully over the summer maybe.

The PSP is a great system. I don't have too many games for it, but I have a couple on your list. Loved Half Minute Hero. I wish they would make a sequel for that. I'm playing Tactics Ogre right now. It's a really slow process lol.

I love Half Minute Hero as well! I am so mad at myself though because I was almost done with the game in the last senario where you run around grabbing everyone and I turned my system off thinking I had it save and I didn't so I have to redo the knights story.

I agree about selling stuff. I wish I still had my PSP and I do plan on buying another one.. I loved playing the PSone classics on it. It was so cool playing Resident Evil laying in bed in the dark watching the little screen.

That was another thing I liked about the PSP was that you could buy movies for it and just relax in bed or on the train/car/bus or where ever and watch it. Was easier than carrying around a DVD player or a laptop.

I still don't have a PSP. I've been told that the 2000 is the way to go, but I don't know enough about the different versions, other than the Go not using UMDs.

I honestly don't know much about them either. I know if you head over to Wikipedia you can see the differences (I have the link below in my blog) and compaire them that way.

They just need to lower the price for sd cards for vita and we are set. Until then, UMD discs are the only choice. I love Valkyrie Profile on PSP. Although it's stretched, I need a proper transfer.

FAF101

I am also hoping, which I believe is happening, a price drop in the Vita as well because it would be a bit nicer on my wallet too haha

That's weird. I thought Valkyrie Profile was on the PSN store, but I guess I was wrong. Such a shame, too. It's a classic.

The second one is for the PSP I don't think the PS3 game is.

I've thought of picking up a PSP since it's wicked cheap now - but I think I'll wait for the inevitable Vita price drop (since it's mostly backwards compatible, ableit digitally).  There are a ton of games that I'd be very interested in - Corpse Party being one o them.

I'm playin Corpse Party right now. It's good. Kind of like a book, but good nonetheless.

FAF101

02/28/2013 at 11:33 PM

That is one thing I like how you can play almost whatever you have digitally on the Vita. I'll still probably have to keep my PSP though since I have a lot of UMD copies of games too.

Corpse Party is such a fun game! I like the first one a lot better than Book of Shadows,...but they are both equally great games.

I still just have my one, original Nintendo DS, but PSPs did always look sweet.

Before I sold it since I got the 3DS, I had the original Super Mario Kart DS and I called it the Red Tank haha That thing was shatterproof.

I grew to love the PSP better than the DS, overall. The PSP had great games like FF7 Crisis Core, Valkyria Chronicles II, and Persona 3 Portable. I have a PSP-3000.

FAF101

I like both my DS and PSP but for different reasons. They are both great systems.

I have been enjoying the PsP for several years now. My favorite game is Dissidia Duodecim. Such a great brawler. Almost as good as Smash Bros.

FAF101

03/01/2013 at 08:06 AM

I recently bought that when they were have the Enix sale on the PSN store. I haven't tried it yet since I need to buy another SD card to hold the games. I ran out of room haha

It's tricky to remember the rules if you're unfamiliar with fighting games, but the plot had all the angst and fan service you could ask for. ^_^

Sweet! I can't wait to get started on them once I get another SD card to plug into my PSP!

A series of games that kept me glued to my PSP: Locoroco. Damn do I love those little buggers.

FAF101

03/01/2013 at 08:06 AM

Locoroco had some of the best music in it! I don't own it but my brother does so I borrowed it from him. That's a game I have to get for myself eventually.

Oh the PSP. I loved that thing. I own a 1000 series, and the 3000 series. My favorite was the 1000 because it was heavy, had the latch/eject button for the UMDs. The 3000 was cool because I could hook it up to my TV. I'd still be playing both today if both didn't have terrible nub problems (the 1000 eventually broke, and the 3000 needs to be moved around a bit so your character doesn't drift)

Eventually I'll replace the nubs because I have a bunch of games that I really enjoyed, and I want to play again without having to buy digital versions to play on the Vita

FAF101

03/01/2013 at 08:09 AM

Oh thats nifty, I didn't know the 3000 could do that! Are you able to play the games off of the TV if you wanted to? Or if it just a hook up to watch stuff?

goaztecs

03/02/2013 at 12:22 PM

You can play your games on the TV but it doesn't use the full screen. If you own Resistance on the PSP and Resistance2 on the PS3, you can actually use a PS3 controller. There was a lot of cool features for the PSP

I love my PSP. I got the 3000 model as a birthday gift right around when the Vita was announced. I call it my Wayback Machine, because every game I get for it is either a classic or a remake, and I love it for that.

I actually just received cables to hook it up to my TV last night! I was playing some Castlevania for about a half hour or so. They work great!

I like the idea of playing PSP games off of a TV XD

I've been threatning to list my collection on here.  Most of my collection consists of PSOne games.  I wonder how many I have?  I'll find out soon enough.

FAF101

03/01/2013 at 11:54 PM

I have a little bit of everything in my collection. Some more so than others though. It's always a shock to see what you have!

I'm totally not familiar with the PSP-E1000. Where was it released, and is it insanely pricey...? 'Cause I really kinda want one (O_O)

FAF101

03/01/2013 at 11:54 PM

I have no idea, honestly I never knew it existed until I decided to pay tribute to the PSP haha. I kinda want one as well if it has TV hook ups!

I did a bit of diggng. Theyr the PSP models released recently in the EU and Australia. It seems as if the "E" stands for European. They're not too expensive either, so I may look into one. They sure are slick...

I love the department Heaven games and most, if not all of them have made it to PSP. Riviera and Yggdra Union are my top pics, though Knights in the Nightmare and Gungnir are still pretty nifty.

I've thought about getting a psp myself but something else always came up to demand my money. (sniffle)

I still want to plat Parasite Eve: 3rd Birthday. Certain people say it's an abomination but it simply looks so darn fun! (I'm also a Parasite Eve fanboy)

FAF101

I still need to play that series. I have heard so many amazing things about it. It will be eventually bought off of the PSN!

While the PSPGo does offer some features not present on the previous models (I believe it can display games full-screen on a television and can also accept a PS3 controller for input), the digital-only nature of the system means that it cannot play every PSP game.  There are plenty of games, both big and small, that are not up for download and probably never will be (like Crisis Core or Kingdom Hearts).  As for the E-1000, that still has the UMD drive, but has no Wi-Fi support.

That said, I still own the original PSP-1001, too, that I bought at the end of 2005.  The UMD drive might not work as well as it used to, and the power button might be tempermental, but it still plays games.  I have opened it and done maintenance on it, though, like improving the d-pad and resetting the power switch when necessary.  I also own a PSP-3000 for playing games on the TV.  It might not display the games full-screen, but it's a nice option for when I want to sit down and play on the big screen.

As for your collection of PSP games, I'd say you have a serious backlog for it.  Of course, I'm not one to talk as I have plenty of unfinished games for it, too.  I'm sure you'll get around to them, though, once your in the mood for them.  With support drying up for the PSP in the West (only three rpgs are coming out for it this year so far), you won't have anymore new PSP games distracting you from the ones you already own.

FAF101

03/06/2013 at 08:28 AM

Indeed my backlog for it is HUGE since I have only completed 4 games for it. I am hoping to get more play time with it this year though!

I wasn't a big fan of the PSP at first, but it won me over with all the rpgs.  44 games in your collection is impressive.  I wish I had that many.  I bet you have some nice rpgs in your PSP collection. Cool

FAF101

03/06/2013 at 08:29 AM

Indeed! Most of them are RPGs haha. That is the main reason why I love the PSP so much was for the great RPG games that were coming out.

Nice blog. I think my PSP collection is probably half the size of yours, but I've beaten the majority of them. I couldn't blame you though if most of your games are RPGs though.

Even once the PSP games stop completely over here, at least there is plenty of games I could import from Japan. As far as I'm aware, the PSP still gets more games than the Vita over there!

FAF101

03/12/2013 at 09:30 AM

I believe so too! They still have games coming out over there for the PSP, awsome RPGs that is. I really hope some of them make it over here as well. But yeah the PSP is my RPG machine lol it's hard to beat all of them since some take awhile.
