My Skylanders (So far)

I'm pretty excited for my PS4 on Friday and with it I'm taking a gamble with Killzone, a series I normally hate, yet is making changes to the campaign that could win me over, and Skylanders, my safe bet. Having jumped on last year when I saw a good deal on Giants, I promised myself I would not get too far down this rabbit hole. Despite a collection of 11 Skylanders, I still like to think that as I have only spent more than $5 on one of these guys. So here's my Skylanders before I get Swap Force (and inevitably more swap figures because that's way too cool a gimmick for me to only limit myself to 2).

Slam Bam

Slam Bam is the only one I've spent more than $5 on, $8 actually. Yet in my defense, he came with a figure that gives a new level which both worked on Spyro's Adventure and Giants and will work on Swap Force, so I think it was worth the extra $3. Slam Bam is my water and melee guy. He's not the fastest, but he can take a hit well, dish one out better, and freeze enemies, making him a reliable Skylander. Also he's a 4 armed yeti, that's pretty damn cool.

Jet Vac

To be honest, I'm not a fan of Jet Vac. His design's okay, but I wouldn't have got him if he wasn't included with Giants. His gun attacks are slow, his flying is meh, and his suck ability is not that useful in combat. I usually save him for when I'm out of other Skylanders.

Ignitor

I wasn't the biggest fan of Ignitor's design even if it's not bad. I really got him because he was in the 3DS version of Spyro's Adventure which I got for a decent 3D platformer that wasn't Mario (which BTW, is actually one of the 3DS' better games, but Giants and Swap Force I heard were a step down on the handheld). But Ignitor is a blast to play as. His sword attacks are beastly while his flame can jump out and attack everything else. My second best melee Skylander

Stealth Elf

With Stealth Elf is at number one for melee. She's not much for the alternate attacks, they're more about evasion than dishing damage. But her main attacks are wicked fast, deal good amounts of damage, and she can even regenerate health. Funny story, this is one of my friends' favorite Skylanders and he was really excited to get the regeneration, and after he did we tested it in a challenge, only to find that we'd only have one hit point for its entire duration.

Tree Rex

My first Giant, who are larger Skylanders which can get past certain obstacles. Giants are slower, but more powerful than regular Skylanders. I love his name. As a Skylander, he's pretty good featuring a really powerful charged melee attack and a decent ranged attack. Like Crusher though, he's more situational to take out a giant grouping of enemies in a close quarter.

Crusher

Not content with one Giant, I decided to snag a second when I saw them on sale. I'm not a huge fan of the giants, but I love this guy's design. Plus his crystals light up on the portal. He's a good tank who can deal good damage with his giant hammer. He's more situational however, as fast, ranged Skylanders are my preferred ones.

Dark Spyro

Gotta have Spyro. My favorite Skylanders are dragons, they usually have better abilities and great ranged attacks. Spyro's in the middle ground of dragons. He's not as good as my favorite one, but he holds his own with his fire and melee attacks. He's the expected middle ground you get with a "main" character when you have a bunch of them to use.

Flashwing

Having got Flashwing when I was well into Giants and since he didn't work with Spyro's Adventure, I didn't use him too much. But from what I played, despite being underleveled, he was my second favorite Skylander, having a speedy main attack shooting crystals and a fantastic alternate attack which shoots crystals from all angles around him. I'd recommend him to anyone wanting to give him a try.

Whirlwind

Whirlwind I have used even less than Flashwing, buying him in preparation for Swap Force when I saw a great deal on him. From the little I played with him however, he was able to hold his own so hopefully he'll deliver when I get to use him more. Either way, I'm sure he'll be a better Wind Skylander than Jet Vac

Cynder

Easily my least favorite of the dragon Skylanders, and it's all because of Cynder's main attacks. It initially seems awesome as she shoots lightning, but it's not powerful nor speedy enough for me to do much damage with her. Her alternate attack meanwhile is more about dodging even though it deals okay damage, but unlike Stealth Elf, she lacks the speedy attacks to make it work. She's my second least favorite after Jet Vac.

Drobot

Easily my favorite Skylander. If you get this game, he is the figure you want to go with. His main attack is the speediest of the ones I own while still doing good damage. Combine this with a strafing move and it is really easy to deal consistent damage with Drobot. His upgrades meanwhile just make this better as he shoots even more lasers. Plus, robot dragon. That's pretty damn awesome.

If you read my Skylanders Swap Force Strategy Guide review, you can see all my Skylanders.  I didn't buy a single one, either.

I think Skylanders is so awesome. I am just afraid I will end up buying everything. I love collecting things so Skylanders would be crack for me.

I got my little bro the 3DS version of the first game for 10 bucks brand new, it was a steal at that price considering with all the stuff it comes with. He loves it, gonna try to get him the other games when I can. Plus the designs of the figures are pretty neat. Imagine if Nintendo did this with Pokemon?
