Borderlands 2 and My future in gaming

Good morning all,

I thought I would write a quick blog on something I have been thinking about lately; my future in gaming. As a full time working 30 year old, I have found that my time I spend gaming is slowly diminishing except for recently only because I have had a bit of time off. Not only that, I tend to put other things in higher priority leaving gaming time to a minimal. What really got me thinking about this was when I walked in to Target and see the big displays for the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One. The new consoles would be a risky investment for me, not in cost, but in time. I fear I would go and buy one (or maybe both, lol) just to have them sit and collect dust....$1000 for nothing. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely games that interest me on the new systems, but the one definite must buy game I want (Metal Gear Solid V) is also coming to current consoles. I definitely will not buy them anytime soon, but take a wait and see approach.

Borderlands 2

As a mentioned above, I have had a bit of free time lately and I have been plugging away at Borderlands 2. I tore through this game pretty fast it feels like and I believe that I am on the last mission of the game, "Finish it". I just had a general question for people who have beaten the game already. Should I beat the final mission and then play all the DLC or the other way around? I am considering playing through all the DLC missions before I finish the game. The reason is that once I beat a game, my backlog is so huge, that in my mind I am complete and want to move on. I want to play all the DLC though. I am currently starting the first DLC, "Captain Scarlett and her Pirate Booty". Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah I agree with you on the time issue but for me it also has to do with the sizable backlog I still possess. My plan for now is to use the next year to clear that and go with the PS4 next holiday season. I'm too excited about MGSV and the next Dragon Age to hold off completely.

Work/life is a real pain in the bloody ass for the ol' gaming time Laughing

My backlog is also to the point I could probably hold off the next gen consoles for years, lol. It may be a year or longer before I consider purchasing the next gen systems...unless something unbelievable is announced before then.

I would beat all the dlc then complete the game thats how I do it when I have a bunch of dlc Kingdom of Amular is a good example I beat the legend of dead Kel and Teeth of naros before completing the final mission of the game :D

Ok, sounds like you have the same mindset as me. I just hope there is no spoilers in any of the DLC, lol. Thanks :)

What if MGS V is crap on the current gen consoles compared to the next gen?

I am ready for the next gen consoles and I want to get them sooner than later because if I end up with any kids in the next couple of years I fully expect to lose most of my free time...

I've been contemplating ditching consoles for handhelds due to time limitations. I still find it hard to let go of some console games though.

From my expirience I recommend just beating it. Then you can start a new game in True Vault Hunter Mode. You keep all of your stats and gear and you can still access all the DLC from any fast travel. You will also have an alternate access to your armory in Claptraps place. The reason to do this is if you start the DLC missions in normal, the mission will be way under level like 15 when you are likely at about 30 or 31. This means your not getting jack for exp. Chests and any enemy drops will be at lv 15 too. TVHM scales all enemies and loot to you. It is a tad bit harder but slag becomes much more useful. It just depends on how high a level you plan to take your character and how much of a challenge you want.

This is not going to help your gaming time issue either, but the very distinct play styles of each of the classes add a huge amount of replay value to this. Between all 6 characters I have probably played through and beat this game like 15 or more times over the last year and a half.

I mostly play handhelds, and don't play consoles too much anymore.  That said, I still want a Wii U and a PS4.  But I'm going to wait I think.  I don't know why I don't play consoles as much, but I do game on my PC a lot.
