There is a lot of games I enjoyed in the closing of the current generation. I was impressed with many titles but not all of them made the list. I left out a few I would go ahead and mention such as The Walking Dead, Assassin's Creed 2, Bioshock, and Bioshock Infinite. Here is my top ten...
Red Dead Redemption is probably my favorite sandbox game. I loved how you could find random things and there be plenty of wild life. It is easy my favorite western themed title. I enjoyed the story and how it didn't end in a typical manner.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution had two things that made me completely fall in love with it. Its the level design in how you were able to do any objective in various ways and loved the theme of the story. It is one game that I wish that others would follow. While others have had afterwards, this one I felt was exceptional.
Uncharted 2 was a roller coaster ride. It was beautiful and felt like a real Indiana Jones adventure. The animation was gorgeous and loved how organic they made Nathan Drake. He never made things look easy.
Mass Effect 2 was a fun ride and loved how the story was constructed. It made gathering a team a purpose and organizing them with tasks was innovative how it structured the game from beginning to the end. It was a gorgeous game and did justice with the cover mechanics. It streamlined everything nicely. This was an incredible game.
Skyrim took over a huge part of my life. I did everything I could have done in the game. If I didn't kill that one particular dog, I would have a platinum for this game. I loved exploring the game. It was addicting. It was huge.
Batman Arkham City is the best Batman game as far as im concerned. I beat all 3 of them that came out this generation but felt Arkham City was better polished and had more challenging detective mode as well as more unique side quests. Of all of them, Mr Freeze was a awesome memorable fight.
Dead Space was one of the most unique new IPs that I enjoyed on the 360/PS3. Its controls such as its shooting mechanics were dead on making it very fun. It was unique in how to kill the necromorphs. I also enjoyed how it freshen things up with different tasks. It had incredible sound effects.
The Last of Us is one of the best gaming stories I have ever experienced. It is gorgeous looking. The characters acted incredibly well. The story was moving and interesting. The gameplay is unique enough to stand out a bit. I love story driven games and this was one at its finest and has set the bar for all future games that I would only give credit to The Walking Dead being able to challenge.
Fallout 3 blew me away. I spent over 200 hours in this game and beat all the DLC. It was so dark and dreary. I hated the atmosphere but it was so strong. I loved exploring and learning about Washington DC and everything that happened there. One of the best games I ever played.
THERE IS A TIE! I am sorry I couldn't pick between these two games. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the best multiplayer experience I ever had and pulled me away from Halo 3. That is saying a lot. Its campaign was awesome. I loved sneaking while troops walked past me unnoticed. I loved shooting down from the AC-130, and so on. It had plenty of great moments. The other title being Demons Souls/Dark Souls. I am sorry but I can't separate these two titles. They have everything. They have incredible rewarding gameplay, unique enemy designs and plenty of them, a great soundtrack, amazing looking levels, and unique creative use of the internet. These two games are not just two of my top favorites this generation but of all time.
