Why it's good to avoid Next Gen console news on launch week...

I've been avoiding most news regarding reviews on PS4 and XBOX one, for the first few weeks at least, although it's kind of difficult to do it with all the phony outrage posts going around.

I saw this post on reddit regarding PS4 graphics of COD Ghosts. A popular youtuber posted screenshots of what appeared to be the final install of COD Ghosts, and well, it looked like a PS2 game. This post became very popular until someone else posted the "ACTUAL" final install graphics of the game and showed a comparison. See image below...

What the original forum poster forgot to mention was that, upon inserting the disc you can start playing the game immediately while the game installs in the background, but the "HI-RES" graphics won't be visible until the game for 10-15 min. Whether or not the poster new this is uncertain, because a twitter post from the developer, Infinity Ward, pointed out that there is now way of notifiying you when the install has completed while you are playing.

To our PS4 fans, #CODGhosts installs the high-res textures in the background once the disk is in your system. We estimate it takes about 10-15 minutes. And possibly 30+ if you're playing while it's still installing. Unfortunately, there's no way to see the progress of when it's complete. Once complete, you'll see the high-res textures in-game.-INFINITY WARD

There is also this asshole breaking a PS4 for no reason while ppl wait to buy one.

I swear idiocy has escalated to a whole new level this week. I got to see Killzone in action so I knew from the get go something was up with those screens that one user posted. Killzone looks amazing! While Im not a fan of COD I doubt its bad looking. Well the guy breaking one I hope he enjoyed his 400$, Its a shame the console could of gone to someone who really wanted it.

Im not a FPS fan myself, but we've been through all of this before. Gamecube had better graphics than PS2, but PS2 was more popular. PS3 had better hardware than XBOX360, but developers created games on xbox then ported to PS3. In the end it's the software that matters to me anyway. I think I'm just going to buy mario, zelda and pikmin for wiiU and 3ds this year.

I wish I could take those broken jagged shards of the smashed PS4 and shove them up that guy's ass. lol. Maybe he's trying to make a political statement about "consumer greed" or "consumer sheep mentality" but more likely he' justs some kind of agro-fan-boy. But hey, if he wants to drop all that money and wreck his own shit, let him. In the end he'll be remembered as an idiot.

From what I've read about the smash vid is that the video poster gets paid per youtube views or something. At the moment the vid has like 150K+ views in one day. A consumer greed demo would have been more interesting, but if it's just for youtube hits it's just more greed.  Undecided

I think he has a partnership with Machinima. He posted an update where he explains he didn't know about the "High - Res" patch or whatever, but some ppl who follow his channel claim that he did know and putting up the video as is would generate more views for him. And the fight goes on...

This has been going on for years. I remember hearing about people doing this for the PS2, back when the console was super hard to find and selling on eBay for a grand.

I remember that too, Julian. lol.

Before this gif there was a vid of a guy shooting at a PS4 just a day earlier. I'm not surprised, but that original post on reddit jumped to like 1,000 comments, basically misinforming everyone.

I prescribe a swift butt kicking once a day or as often as needed.

The incessant drama over game machine toys is tiring. And yes, I'm going to call them toys until the user base stops acting like children.

On the other hand, I'm enjoying the butthurt over these game toy boxes. Particularly humorous are people with primitive aesthetic sensibilities obsessing over visuals. It's like illiterates fighting over who the better writer is.

But hey, maybe it's all part of the plan. Keep people distracted with utterly in consequential b.s. as their birthright is frittered away by psychopaths. That's a talk for another time.

Yeah. I don't really feel pressured to go out and buy the new thing. In part because I have a PC and controller, and typically my settings are set to much higher visual standards than typical console, so the visuals dont sell me on a new console, it's the software. That's why I'm looking forward to play some WiiU and 3DS games this year and wait for the PS4 XBONE library to grow before taking a dive.

Well aren't they toys? I mean, you don't buy a console for anything other than to have fun. Doesn't mean you can't have fun with them when you get older too. Just ask Kobe Bryant or Peyton Manning if they feel insecure about playing with toys every day.

But insecure fanboys obsessed with image hate when you call them toys. These goofs won't even play a Nintendo game because there are cartoon animals in them.

And what do sports celebrities have to do with anything? There are man-children in pro sports too.  I play console games, that should be enough justification for everyone :D

Just saying that they play with balls which are still toys, yet game consoles can't be toys because "adults play them."

I'll probably give it 2 years before i buy a PS4, by then they'll have worked out all the bugs and have more games to choose from.

By then i'll have a new game laptop and Wii U Tongue Out

Why is that guy breaking that PS4?  It must be nice to have it so good that you can throw away $400. Undecided

I wouldn't be surprised if that asshat that destroyed the PS4 is someone from 4chan (specially from the /V/ board).

Ah yes, the dumba** mentality seems to show up during new consoles launches. The one thing I hope that won't be going on is the pissing matches between fanboys about who's toy is better.

I always hated that one guy that seems to always pop up during launches just to destroy the thing everyone wants. Who is it really hurting? They shelled out the cash. These guys are just as bad as the reseller guy.

Well, I like to keep informed at least. I don't get into the drama, but it's been successful so far. A million units were sold on the first day. Two consoles were stolen in 3 hours in California. And 0.4% are malfunctioned, resulting in what has been known as the "Blue Light of Death." Interesting so far. I'm looking forward to see news on the Xbone's release on Friday, and probably comparisons next week.
