My First Impression of State of Decay on Xbox live Arcade

So I know I have a tendency to ramble on about games i like and thats nothing more then my love for our hobby and although im sure my picks in games are unique I do know a great game when I play it which brings me to my Xbox Live Arcade Game of choice for the year, and although im a huge fan of The Walking Dead with our dear Clementine this one although by no means perfect it is everything you would want in a Walking Dead series sim.

The Graphics are choppy at best the game has clipping and graphic issues but thats where it stops from then on out this is a fantastic game and surprises me that its an arcade title, and for a arcade title its huge this is very in depth and very unusual, the game has a fighting aspect thats clumsy but not bad and graphics thats not very impressive but what it lacks in polish it makes up for in fun.

If you have ever watched The Walking Dead the series on AMC then you probably wish for a game thats like the series, well wait no longer this is a awesome game it starts out with no story no idea what your doing or how to do it, you start out with your freind getting attacked by Zeds another name for zombies and you help defend him then your on your own now for the sake of learning tge hard way like I did remember these tips first off your characters can die and if they do there gone for good next be sneaky and quiet dont kill and fight everything you see weapons will wear out and break, guns are loud and will attract Zeds same with cars although they get you from a to b there loud and attract Zeds and next dont get bit cause if you do your character will turn eventually and will cause morale issues in your base.

There's alot of strategy and management in this game you have to keep up with morale, food, guns and ammo, you will have to make runs into town for supplies, medicine etc. You have to build additions like new sleeping quarters bigger fences etc all while making sure everyone is getting rest and are not causing morale issues an example if one of your people are having anger issues you take them out to a house full of zombies and let them go crazy attacking them to release there anger and also build there trust and once you befreind your people you can play as them and which is a good idea to play as all of them to ballance there traits, which brings me to the depth of the game.

Theres a trait tree in which you boost the skills of each of your people then theres a supply locker you have to keep full of medicine and food and weapon's the guns although helpful are more of an issue then a help unless you can find a suppressor for them as noise attracts Zombies, another helpful tip you need to know and thats that the game keeps going even when you are not playing the people keep doing there

daily activities so its important for you to keep everything up so morale and keeping everything tip top is essential.

This is one really cool game and probably one of the most expensive arcade games to date at $20 and worth every penny this is a game worth playing and a must play for any gamer so get it if you want a great game and itscon pc as well.

I finished State of Decay a while ago and while I love the premise and some of the mechanics, the game just wasn't finished IMO. Recruiting survivors, scavenging for supplies and building your base were exceptional but the story was weak and got in the way of those great bits. That being said this is probably the best zombie game you can get (I don't count The Walking Dead as a game)

I remember when Minecraft came out on XBLA for $20. I think it was the first one at that price. From then on XBLA games were mostly $15 and not $10 like at the beginning.

I got really addicted to this game for a little bit, then it stopped. While it's great for a bit I found nothing to really engage me. However, I definitely got my money's worth, so I guess it's a good game :)

it sucks to be in the back of a pickup truck when zombies are attacking!

Its totally off the wall lol and the graphics remind me of the artist who did the never ending stairway.

I have to get back into this game; I had been on a roll with it but I had gotten super busy with freelance work, and then I went right into Dark Souls. From what I had played, I agree this is a great sim for fans of the Zombie Apocalypse genre! The emphasis on character's well-being and supply scavenging was a great idea over the "kill 100's of zombies without breaking a sweat" that burdens most undead games.

Given that you are also a Walking Dead fan, I wrote-up a piece a while back about how AMC's The Walking Dead game could have been great. Let me know what you think!

Great write up with exactly what I would like in an open world zombie game, im not to much into the shooter fps zombie games, I loved Tell Tales walking dead, and state of decay although very glitched and sub par graphics the whole idea behind it is subperb now if we could get Bethsada to make a zombie game like state of decay they would knock it out of the park, I really liked your write up though thought it was done excellent and very professional. :)

Thanks man! It would be great to be able to build a character from the outset, and have them evolve and change as the days/months/years went on, especially if there was a skill tree where your survival skills/fighting/marksmanship improved over time like Skyrim's perk tree!

Glad you like the write-up, bud!

Been interested in this awhile but kind of want to "wait and see" hoping for an expansion. Most people love this game but a recurring critique is despite being "open world" it's relatively short.

I played the demo of this and really loved it, I'd like to get the full game sometime. This is a super ambitious arcade game and it seems to come together pretty well from what I played in the demo which is really cool. The graphics are choppy and the combat is wonky but I thought the art direction was nice and all those strategy sim systems were really neat so I loved the game for how ambitious it was. I'm definitely going to have to grab the full game now.
