Marvel Themed Gaming Weekend

Well good morning, and happy Monday Pixlbit! For many it’s a short week because Thanksgiving is a couple of days away. Now I’m not big on the Turkey and ham, but I do like spending time with the family and watching football (HOW ‘BOUT THEM COWBOYS!)

So over the weekend, while I was cleaning out my big external hard drive for my old laptop, I was copying over some mixtapes to my new iTunes account on the newer laptop, and I found this mixtape I haven’t heard in a couple of years by Travis Barker and DJ AM

This is what I have been listening to while trying out a couple of games and typing this blog.

As for what I have been playing, overall there was a Marvel theme going on, which happened by accident. I played/tried out a total of four games, each involving Marvel and The Avengers

Lego Marvel Superheroes – PS3

I am still chugging away. I played a couple of spots where I can earn a gold brick by helping random Lego citizens in New York, and uncovered the level where you destroy everything and try and score a million points. Of course all the extras are disabled, but it’s still fun destroying EVERYTHING.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance – 360

I jumped back into this game after not touching it for a month. I found out that I was almost finished with the 2nd level, finished it, and turned it off because I went to get some lunch. I forgot to save. Yep…

So I replayed that section again, which wasn’t bad, but I was all ready to start on the 3rd level, so it was a kind of a letdown. I got through all of that and now I am stuck in the 3rd level. I’ll figure out how to get unstuck.

Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign – Android

The puzzle game I do like to play is back…and I am still stuck. I’m happy that since I connected the game with my Facebook account, some friends send out the gems that help upgrade my characters. With one of the daily bonuses I unlocked this guy

I’m thinking about selling my 1* level 10 Iron Man now so I can upgrade my other characters…and still will be stuck.

Now as for the two games I’m trying out, they are free on the Google Play Store, and I’m assuming free on the App Store for iOS, but I haven’t checked so don’t quote me on that!

Avengers Alliance

Now this game is something I wouldn’t normally play because it’s a RPG, the kind where you push the hit button, watch them hit, and then the other side does the same thing. Sorry RPG fans, I don’t get this but I’ll give it a try anyways.

The storyline is that you are a SHIELD agent and you fight the bad guys. You team up with various members of the Marvel Universe, and kick ass.

The tutorial is simple, and it gives you a Sentinel to practice on before you jump right into battle

I do like how the top bar gives the order of the battle.

The storyline is also simple, where you go and help out other Superheroes and after the battle you earn a reward, and the hero you helped joins your team.

The game really isn’t my speed, but I’ll probably play a couple of battles before deciding to either continue with the game, or remove it from the tablet.

Marvel War of Heroes

When I first booted up this game, I thought it was like the old Android games that were made for small phone screens, but soon realized it looked like this for a reason. MWoH is a card battle game, again another genre that I’m not really into but I will give a shot.

From the get go, I was lost because I earned a Wolverine card to start out, and the instructions were to pull another card, which was another Wolverine. I was then told to merge both cards together and created this

After that it was off to battle. (I’m still completely lost on what just happened)

I’m assuming this is the fight screen. I kept tapping attack and Wolverine’s meters would fill, and I kept getting this screen

And then going back to the same fight. I don’t know if this was my tutorial, or actual fight, but I quickly lost interest especially after going through all these slow screens to start out with including this one which I have no idea how to use

As much as I want to give this game an honest try, I don’t think I’ll play much of it.

Now for two games I’ve been spending some time with, which both of them are on Android (they might be on iOS too)

In my last Quick Hits blog, I mentioned how I am not addicted to this game, so I thought I’d explain a bit why this game is well…a good ol’ fashion time suck.

The game follows the Monopoly board, and you start on Mediterranean Avenue. You start with a number of tickets. These tickets are used for to pay for playing a Bingo game, how many cards you play, and extras like having the game auto tap the numbers for you (talk about lazy)

On the actual bingo card, random spots will be bonus spots. These bonus spots are for coins, and scratch cards (to play in between bingo games). There are also these lightning icons to give you an advantage by unlocking more bonus coins on the card, as well as an instant bingo spot.

You play with random people, and the more people in a room, the more BINGO slots are available. One room I played in had 40 people with 30 BINGO slots, while another had 90 people with 56 BINGO slots.

During the game, every time one of your numbers is called you earn experience points, and at the end of the game you can see what you earned in terms of coins, extra bonuses, tickets, and experience points. Experience unlocks new properties for you to play at. The bingo games get more expensive but it’s still the same game.

Every day you get rewarded based on how well you are playing. If you keep playing one property until you win and unlock all the question mark items (8 per property), and win all the green houses and hotel, you get more tickets and I think coins.

Currently I unlocked up to Oriental Avenue, but I am still playing at Baltic to collect two more houses and a hotel.

Monopoly Bingo is a fun game to play on the couch between commercial breaks.

The final game I want to mention in this blog is Spell Tower

I saw this game in the lastest Humble Bundle but I didn’t want to buy the bundle because I would never play the other games (especially since I already have Epoch on iOS). In the Google Play Store, this game is $2.00 which isn’t bad, and I’ve been playing this game all day Sunday.

Spell Tower is like Wordsurge on iOS, where you are given a board full of letters and you drag your finger over letters next to each other to create words. The more letters you use, the more points you get.

The more you play, the more points you earn to unlock different levels of the game. It’s a simple game that is a lot of fun, and I found myself trying to earn the high score during every game, which meant that I wasn’t trying to hit the easy 3 letter words. Fun game, and worth the $2.

For you Final Fantasy fans I saw this on Flipboard, and I thought I’d share it here. Good news if you own an iDevice

Alright Pixlbit, I need to wrap this up, finish breakfast, and finish up this poster project.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Good article.  I just purchased Marvel vs. Capcom Origins and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the PlayStation Store.  I'm enjoying them very much right now.

Thanks! I think I bought one of the MvC games on the PSN store. I like it, but I need one of those Sega Genesis 6-button looking controllers.

BOOOO Philiy! Tongue Out

Yeah it is, but I could be getting into that RPG game, so I might have found something fun in random game downloading.

I'm currently plugging away at Lego Marvel, too. I found Marvel HQ last night and had fun smashing the place up.

Oh nice! Once you get going in that game, you start breaking EVERYTHING. Sometimes I drive around NYC and treat it like GTA

I just reviewed LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. You can read about it on my blog.

I don't know much about Marvel characters, so you can pick out one for me that you'd think I'd like.

Oh nice, I'll check it out!

I like using the Mark 42 Iron Man because he flies, and has a laser. That's my current go-to character. Also if you unlocked him, the Iron Man Hulkbuster because he's huge and hovers
