What were the must play games of 2013?

I've got a list for games that I haven't even started yet. Skyrim and Last of Us to name a few. So guys, what are the must play games for this year?

I don't mean, games that fall in the category of "It's kind of okay, not horrible", but "It's worth your time for x and y reasons.

DMC

I will begin with DMC. I really appreciate games that are short now. Gone are the days of endless weekends to finish off 100 hour JRPGs. So if a great quality game appears and it's nice and short, it's a plus for me. DMC fits into this category. I especially enjoyed the visuals and sound design. I liked the combat and platforming, and yes, even the much hated Dante redesign was cool. I would recommend this game for these reasons.

A Realm Reborn (PC/PS3)

What? An MMO? Yes. I still can't stop playing this game. A new patch is incoming next month and we will have housing and PvP. I've already enjoyed multiple class jobs, great environments, sound, visuals, story, yes! story, and gameplay, although the gameplay is basically spamming, but still fun though. Be aware of subscription requirements, but whethere on console or PC, the game is fun and easy to play on either choice. I good MMO for beginners I think.

Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)

Now, I know some people aren't into portables. Even if you like portables, rpgs or strategy rpgs fall into a smaller group of popularity, so you are more likely to play a Mario than a Fire Emblem or Etrian Odyssey, but if you were interested in these types of challenging games, then I would suggest Fire Emblem Awakening. Again, visuals, sound, music and overall game design make this a worthy play through. You can also customize a party and it's in 3D.

Again, this isn't an agree or disagree blog. It's more, this is what I played and enjoyed because... and you should play it too.

What are your must play games?

Ah! Fire Emblem Awakening. I still haven't played it for more than an hour since I got it day-one. There's been so many cool handheld games this year, I keep getting sidetracked by newer titles.

Too many games, ah yes I remember seeing a blog about this issue on pixlbit, and it's so true. FE:A came out early in the year, so it would  have been pushed into the background by newer games. I listen to the sound track all the time. Quite a cool game! Cool

Nice picks. Mine go to Last of Us, Rayman Legends, and Super Mario 3D World.

Nicke picks. I totally forgot about Rayman. I only tried the demo, and it was really fun and looked great on WiiU. Also forgot about Mario 3D World, the WiiU version right? Those are some game choices. I definitely need to play Last of Us, and of course Mario.

Near the end of the year, after Christmas, I'll post my Game of the Year Awards blog.  Then you can see my picks!

It must be Animal Crossing, which is fabulous and a good pick, Pikmin, which I haven't played, or Pokemon XY, which I also here is awesome. I'll wait for end of year to be surprised...Wink

I love me some AC:NL as well, but it's such a niche genre and I don't know about recommending it to people who don't know about these types of games, collecting-only and no combat or boss battles or whatever. But only good things to say about New Leaf. It's pretty awesome. Cool

I would like to get DMC. I played little of the original saga (only the first minutes of the third game), but it looks great enough for me. As for game to play this year, go with Etrian Odyssey Untold.

DMC is a stand alone game, in a way, story-wise, it's sort of a prequel to the other games. I think the price should have gone down by now and it's nice and short, so I would recommend trying it if you liked the previous installments, assuming you enjoyed the combo combat.

Etrian Odyssey Untold, is that the re-make of the original for 3DS? I haven't tried it. I enjoyed the series on DS and the last game to appear on DS/3DS. Really good choice!Cool

Steamworld Dig is definitely somewhere on my list.

I did enjoy Fire Emblem Awakening.

A Link Between Worlds will probably climb to the top of my list by the time that I finish it.  Also, I have high hopes for Ys:  Memories of Celceta.

Yes. I read about Steamworld Dig and it looks and sounds awesome. I read it might come to PC as well, so I'll try it out then on big screen.

And Zelda is on my "to buy" list as well as Ys on Vita!

I am about halfway through A Link Between Worlds, and it is easily one of my favourite games this year.

I hadn't played any of those games, but I at least own Fire Emblem.

I really don't know what games I would say are the must play from this year.  I didn't buy many games released this year and many of the games I own, I hadn't played yet.

It's hard to remember which games that I played this year are exactly from this year lol. BioShock Infinite for sure. That game isn't perfect but it's so polished and the story is so good! I'd also recommend HarmoKnight, the downloadable 3DS rhythm platformer from Game Freak. It's a little short but is a blast while it lasts and has superb music. Lots of fun.

The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, Tearaway, Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds, and Tomb Raider are a few. Haven't gotten to play Super Mario 3D World. My controller is messed up but considering reviews, it seems like its going to great.
