The Black Heart: Worth your time!

The Black Heart is a fucked up game. In this case I mean that in the best most flattering way possible. I feel as if this is a fighter that would have competed with Mortal Kombat back in the day for both its’ dark foreboding atmosphere and brutal violence. It certainly would have robbed plenty of kids of their hard earned quarters!

The premise in the king of the other-world had his heart stolen by a big bad demon from the void between our world and the dark places of our nightmares. Any monster who gets the heart by defeating said demon will be rewarded with plentiful power. There are also a few lovely nods to Dark-Stalkers here. The fact the cast is entirely made up of creatures, killers, and vengeful ghosts gives TBH that nocturnal horror movie flavor! But whereas Dark-Stalkers was a bit more lighthearted and ham-fisted with its’ cast, The Black Heart goes in a morbid, eerie, and morose direction. While there are only 6 characters they are very diversified. No two combatants are identical so there’s no Ryu/Ken or Morrigan/Lilith shoto-cloning going on.

Ananzi was my first character a choice. She’s a sexy black widow in the most literal sense! Many of her attacks deal with webs, spiders, and bombarding her opposition with extra arachnid limbs that emerge from her back. Her erotic win poses are a tribute to Morrigan’s but they are not what I would call complete rip offs either. If you like voluptuous breasts, sexy legs, and beautiful butts Ananzi is definitely a “fine” choice! (Just be aware she’s somewhat of a glass cannon too)

Additionally there’s Peketo,a psychotic youth who attacks with scalpels, Hashi, a vengeful nature spirit who resembles a sentient man shaped tree, Shar Makai,a giant parasitic worm, Noroko,a Japanese ghost who is an obvious tribute of the creepy girl from “The Ring” films, and Animus,a masochistic gender bending deity of pain who bares more than a passing resemblance to Valtiel from Silent Hill 3.

Each character has a story line and when you consider one man did all this by himself(With a little help from his brother whom contributed two soundtracks) The Black Heart is an amazing game!

Feel free to check it out at Game Jolt. Gaming goodness awaits! Just don’t let the “teen rating” fool you. There’s some pretty twisted and crazy stuff going on in Black Heart’s world!

It's just a big hub for indie games,Matt! So far it seems nice and I haven't had any issues. A much better experience than RMN was.

that's cool man.  I know other people have ported RPGmaker games to iOS and Android, but I don't know what that entails.  Since yours isn't a run of the mill game, it might stand out if you published an edition like that.  I don't know what that costs or how it works though, so...  Maybe it's something to think about it once you're done refining it.  I've bought and played a few RPgmaker games that have been ported to iOS and many of them use standard assets from the program.

At this point the game is "mostly" where I want it to be,Matt. However, the difficulty scaling makes the game a cakewalk by the end. lol. Once everyone gets their "uber weapons" they're pretty much unstoppable. However, I'm okay with that since my main goal was to tell a story as opposed to making an rpg with Shin Megami Tensei/Dark souls levels of difficulty.

yeah, I understand, sometimes when I imagine my own RPGmaker games, I think about taking out the combat entirely....

Shar-Makai's kill move it pretty cool. Lots of snakes pinning to a wall and then biting you. Love it! Trailer here.

Shar-Makai is a sick mofo. I also like one of the event scenes where two Shar Makai argue and one ends up cutting the other one in half. Parasitic worms don't mess around,yo! They for realz!

Granted, the character roster is limited but each combatant oozes style and originality. I think you'd enjoy it!

Well you'd have to do a bit of convincing to get me to play it.  Any characters i'd like?

Peketo is kind of adorable if you can get passed the fact he wields scalpels,Cary. Tongue Out

I think someone had posted an article about this game on 1Up waaaay back, but if I hadn't seen your post I would mostly likely never remember it.

the game looks way more disturbing than MK, it is somewhat surprising to see it rated as T. But anyways, the dev deserves it to be successful for the labor and creative he put in it.

I think a teen rating is misleading too,Jon. I would have slapped "Mature" on it myself. However, Andres probably isn't North American so maybe his culture has a different outlook on what is adult oriented content and what is not. We often forget the whole world doesn't march to the beat of the same drum. lol.

I might have to check thsi game out if only to see if it can be a contender for my next year's halloween gaming list. My lists could use more of this.
