Silent Hill HD collection - Silent Hill 2

I recently sold my PS2 copy of Silent Hill 2 so when I saw a copy of SH HD collection for $15 on the weekend I snapped it up. I still have SH 3 in mint condition but that's neither here or there. Hey I'm the guy who bought Rayman 2 on 4 different platforms. :D

I'd heard reports of glitches but I figured they'd have patched them by now. Wrong!

I'm not that far into the game and already I've experienced unresponsive controls, strange action glitches that have James turning away from a monster and kicking the air which somehow manages to kill the critter in question and one session breaking glitch.

In the sequence where James jumps over the gap from one apartment building to another the background during the animation turns pure white and when he lands on the other side there's nothing. Just James against a black background.

I could bring the map up to see where I was, I  could move unhindered in any direction but there is no environment to interact with. James would turn his head to look at things that I couldn't see or touch.  I tried making my way to the stairwell, evidently passing through rooms which are not accessible during the game but when I reached the invisible stairwell it would not let me in.

I was forced to reset my game and load up at the last save which fortunately happened just a few minutes before the glitch. On my second try the void did not return and I was able to continue playing.

I have to say I never experienced anything that bad in the original game.

In other thoughts there really is no need for an HD version of this game. Other than the fact that it now fills the screen there's not much positive to say about the transformation.

The graphics now scream "I'm an old PS2 game!", You can clearly see how crappy the environments actually look now and that's about it.

Anyway, I've started it so I'll finish it as I have done a few times before on the PS2. Not that I care but I haven't seen a single trophy yet.

Damn. That sucks Pete. It pisses me off how developers constantly release buggy crap nowadays. Hopefully they will patch it soon. I was thinking about buying Rayman 2 on Dreamcast. Would you recommend it? Do I even need to ask that question? lol Undecided

Rayman 2 on DC. Absolutely. Rayman 2 Revolution on PS2 Ditto. The game is the best of the 3D rayman games IMO.

That sucks to hear.  I've still been planning on buying it as some point, since I've never played SH 3, and although I have SH2 I no longer have a working PS2.

I wish they'd just release the PS2 versions on the PSN, but they probably never will due to wanting to sell the HD versions.

You need to play 3. It has definite ties to 1 so if you haven't played the PS1 game you may miss a few things but it is a really good game.

Apparently they screwed with the soundtrack on the HD version which will suck if it's true. I played the OST for that game a lot when the game first came out,

Hey, I've bought every copy of Ninja Gaiden.... Ninja Gaiden, Black, Sigma, and now I'm going to buy the Vita version!

That's dissapointing, I remember reading about some of the issues other people had playing it and thought at the very least they'd be fixed somewhat by now.

Yeah, you'd think that. I know I did.

When I saw your blog title, the first idea to pop in my head was to ask about glitches. Damn shame....

I'll let you know if I manage to make it through the entire two games without breakig something.

They removed the fog too, didn't they? That seems stupid.

They put it back again.

Peter, I am sadden by the sale of your game. I love the earlier SH games the most. The newer ones are okay, but they do not creep me like the originals.

With every game that I take to the post office I die a little more inside. :( Ditto for my vinyl collection. I just put all of my Dreamcast games on Amazon. That was really hard.

Anyway, it has to be done. Enough of the maudlin shit!

Yeah for some reason I can play the first 3 Silent Hill's over and over again which is what the clowns who made every game since 4 should have done. Maybe they'd have grabbed a clue about what made those games great. The eeriness and atmosphere, not fighting respawning monsters over and over.

I had problems with the God of War HD Collection on PS3. I ended up trading it and just getting the PS2 games again. Why does this kind of thing happen? It's inexcusable.

Thinking with their wallets, that's why.

I'm totally wary of buying any HD collections for PS3 anymore; although, I did just buy the God of War Origins collection. I hope it works.

and that's why I'll never get rid of my copies of SH 2 and 3 for the PS2. I do plan on getting this collection eventually if only for consistency. Besides that I'm sure I could get away with playing 2 and 3 on my B/C PS3 with the upscaler/filter turned way up to get teh same effect but with less glitches. Too bad they've yet to fix everything.
