Quick Hits: It's Cold In Southern California

Well it’s another Friday Pixlbit, and that means another Quick Hits! Of course in this installment there will be some game talk because I knocked another one off of Mount Backlog! Hope you are all staying warm

It’s cold (for Southern California), the heater is on, and yet I’m sitting next to a fan. I know this isn't cold for parts of the country, but when you wear shorts for 99% of the year, it's cold. Anyways let’s get into another edition of Quick Hits With Chris

The Sound Of Music

So I really like The Sound Of Music, and when I heard NBC was making a Live version with

Whom I also really like, it was a no brainer for me to watch. After watching I did like it because it was live, even though it was filmed like it was a Soap Opera. I don’t get the hate that some have towards it, especially with the comparisons to the movie. They’re both good in their own ways. The live show was quaint, the acting could have been better, but I do appreciate the challenge the actors took in doing a Live show, and I do enjoy the storyline of the Von Trapp family. I will buy this version when it gets released.

Paul Walker and Fast and Furious Franchise

I don’t know if you know, but I am a big fan of the Fast and the Furious Franchise, and it was sad to hear that Paul Walker died. I can't say I was a fan of his work but I did like a couple of films other than the F&F, like Varsity Blues, She’s All That, and The Skulls. F&F posted this, which I thought was a fitting tribute

I liked the F&F films because in every version the theme of family was always at its core. Throw in crazy colored cars, over the top action, and the loud music, and that what my summer movies were. I don’t know if the series will continue, or how the writers will deal with his death, but I do hope it will be tasteful and similar to what they did in the Sopranos or Gladiator.

I thought I’d share some of my Fast and Furious gaming moments

Back when I was playing a ton of Midnight Club 3 on the PS2, I made some of the cars from the F&F films. Brian’s cars from 1 and 2, and I tried to make Han’s car from Tokyo Drift. It made the game more interesting, and my friends and I would recite our favorite/cheesy lines from the films

A couple of F&F games I played a bunch of (both of them are not very good, and I bought the PS3 game on release day)

I played tourist in LA one day, and spotted the buildings from the first film where Dom was organizing the race and Brian jumped in. When I went there this was the headquarters for American Apparel.

And finally the epic safe dragging scene from Fast 5…out of Lego. I do need to rebuild the cars Brian and Dom were driving.

Another Game Off Mount Backlog

Last night I finished the Story Mode for Forza Horizon. I had a lot of fun with this game, and I am thinking about buying the Rally add-on (this better be worth the $20). There are a bunch of cars and different races all around Colorado, and sometimes I do find myself just driving around checking out the scenery. I go more in depth about it in next week’s blog.

Game Icons Showing Up

I can’t remember who’s blog had a bunch of pixl video characters showing up around Texas, but this popped up on my Instagram feed, and I thought I’d share it here. Looks like those characters are in Japan as well.

Stay Classy Ron Burgundy

So during ESPN there was a segment where Ron Burgundy interviewed Peyton Manning, and Ron mentioned he was a scout team QB for San Diego State, and the fans ran with it. One of the fans and guy who designs the shirts for the student section The Show made this and the official athletics site posted it over social media

Ron with legendary SDSU coach Don Coryell.

My favorite PS3 trophy

From Grid 2

Pickups!

Games

I found a couple of Android games to try out, and best part is that they are free!

A couple of quick notes about them

Sonic: It’s about time Sega made a Temple Run game with Sonic

Hunger Games: A movie tie-in game, might not be good, but worth a shot

Galaxy On Fire 2: I remember buying this on iOS

Zenonia 5: Another game I tried on iOS many moons ago

From the X-Box Game Store (what do you call their version of PS Store?). I think these were part of their Cyber Sale

I don’t know anything about the Witcher 2, but it sounded interesting enough to try out for $7.

For X-Box Arcade, I picked up these two games and their DLC (Motocross’ DLC was actually cost more than the actual game)

I saw an ad on the dashboard for this yesterday for $2. I have it on N64, and now on 360. I think I’ll give it a try on the 360 before jumping into Perfect Dark Zero.

Music

Through the Apple Store App they were giving away an 8 song Christmas Sampler

And not to be outdone, Google Play Store also has some free music

Some CDs

Added a new Christmas CD and Britney’s new one (I know, SMH)

And of course those CDs included my 4th copy of the Sound of Music Soundtrack

A couple of Digital pickups. One album and one single

This is a pretty good Christmas album. Usually when someone tries to make their own Christmas songs, they’re not very good, but I’m a fan of One More Sleep.

This was an impulse buy, and well I need to give it a couple of listens before I decide if I like it or not.

And with that, this edition of Quick Hits comes to an end. Stay warm Pixlbit!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

The Witcher 2 is one of the best RPGs of the generation.  That is all.

Oh good to know, I'll give it a try this weekend. If I don't like it, I'm blaming you Tongue Out

Ooo! Witcher 2 for $7. I gotta get to my Xbox and download it now!

Will Farrell's alter ego is like everywhere lately. Whoever's running Anchorman 2's promotion is working social media (and media in general) like a master. For anything else, I'd be annoyed, but Anchorman was a classic comedy and I couldn't be more amused. December 20th. I'm there.

To relate some new music I'm into. Behemoth just released their new single for their Satanist album coming in Februrary. Check out their website. It's such a great design.

I do like some of the Ron Burgundy stuff like him showing up at a random donut shop, or doing the news. The Dodge commercials some I like, others not so much. I can't wait to see this film.

I like the web page, it's a different setup. As for their single, I'm not big on the vocals like that but I really dig the instrumentals.

I just saw Ron Burgundy on the cover of GQ at the supermarket! What next?rongq

Also, there are just a few of the growling vocal metal bands that I like. Behemoth's wall of sound really appeals to me as well as their artsy presentation. I had to stop watching the video in the library earlier. Something strange and gross was about to happen I think.

Haha, a friend of mine posted a picture of Dog Fancy magazine with Ron and Baxter, his dog. Who knew there was a Dog Fancy magazine. I do like how the pub for the movie is showing up in random spots.

yeah, it's cold here in Arizona too.  What the hell?!?

They just released a free to play Galaxy on Fire MMO beta. I downloaded it but haven't tried it yet.

I'm not familiar with the Sound of Music, but I like musicals because of my dad.  South Pacific is my favorite, though I also like West Side Story.

Funny thing is you're most likely going to get the storm that is hitting So Cal. We're going from 100+ to 30-40 degrees. Nuts.

That MMO must be interesting. I haven't played much of GoF but I think since its on my Nexus7 it'll get more of a chance than on the iPad.

You know I've never seen West Side Story. At some point I'll catch it. You gotta check out Sound of Music. If you do, go Julie Andrews first, before Carrie Underwood's version.

The Witcher 2 is great.  I didn't know anything about it when I played it either.  I thought the box art looked neat, so I picked it up.  I left it unopened for months until I ran into a friend that loved it.  The first time I played it, I didn't get into it.  I thought the combat system was too complicated.  I let it sit for a couple weeks and tried again.  I really got into it and the story.  I can't wait to play The Witcher 3.

Nice someone else was in the same boat I'm in. I'm a little worried about the combat now, but I'll give it a try. Hopefully I'll make some time for it (in between all the car racing games I've been into)

It's wet and cold in Mississippi and I am tired of it!

Damn, wet and cold. I'm okay with one or the other but not both at the same time.

It's -7 degrees celsius here in Southwestern Ontario. That's  about 19 in fahrenheit.

Witcher 2 for 7  bucks is great. I bought it when it was brand new and I still haven't managed to play it. I've tried twice but once a game starts telling me to push multiple buttons for various things I know I'm in trouble.

Holy cow, that's cold. It hit 19 degrees here last year, and I thought people were insane to be outside (it was at night though). Stay warm Mothman!

I'm a little worried now about the talk about hitting the multiple buttons, and complicated fight system. Hopefully it's something I can get into quickly

Your mileage may vary. I'm particularly uncoordinated and found that ring thingy hard to use. It's been I while I might try again at some point.

41 degrees? That's warm for these parts at this time of year, lol.

I don't know if these interest you, but friends of mine have Christmas albums on CD Baby: Jed Marum and Castlebay.

Haha, yeah my friend and I have a running joke about how folks on the East Coast are probably laughing because the minute it hits 70 degrees here people are bundled up like there's a blizzard outside.

Thanks for the link, I'm going to check out their stuff.

I really like CD Baby, they're a distibution site for independant artists. My friends only pay a small flat fee per CD or download and they get to keep the rest. And CD Baby takes care of the shipping and downloads. I like their five dollar CD sales, too.

I like that. Give more cash to the artists, and promote new music.
