christmas

We continue our 3-part series on Christmas themes with six more great themes you can drink hot chocolate to. Have you been listening to Christmas music on the radio? Me too, but I also love to listen to VG Christmas music. All of these themes are nice and wintry. So bundle up and enjoy.

Cold Reception in Shiver City from Paper Mario/Composed byYuka Tsujiyoko and Taishi Senda

This song is so heartwarming and fun. The xylophone, voices, and jingle bells all add up to make the song festive and wintry. The song becomes more intense the second time as the drums become more dramatic and the voices more pronounced. This is a great song for a cool part of this game, one of Mario's finest RPG adventures.

DK Pass from Mario Kart DS/Composed by Shinobu Tanaka

This one has such a fantastic melody! It's very cheery and memorable. The guitars and accordion add flavor as they soothingly play in the background. The melody is front and center, and it's great. DK Pass passes with flying colors.

White from Mother 3/Composed by Shogo Sakai

This one almost surpasses Winters in sheer awesome winter nostalgia, but not quite. Constant jingles and a heartwarming melody makes this song stand out in a great way. It's calm, soothing, and enjoyable, perfect for the holidays.

Northern Hemispheres from Donkey Kong Country/Composed by Dave Wise, Eveline Fischer, and Robin Beanland

This song is very unique. If you've never played DKC (what's wrong with you?), then let me explain how this one works: the music is in perfect timing with the first snow level. When you begin, it's not snowing, but as you progress through the level, it starts to snow, and the music ramps up until you hit the half-way point and the snow comes down in full force. It's an amazing thing to experience! The song is very cold and foreboding, even creepy. To pull that off in a kid-friendly Nintendo game is very impressive.

Ice Paradise Act I from Sonic Advance 2/Composed by Tatsuyuki Maeda, Yutaka Minobe, and Teruhiko Nakagawa

Last week we heard a theme from Sonic Advance; this week we'll listen to one from the second game. This song is very upbeat and fun. I like the organ in the background, the ding dongs throughout the song, and overall feel. The second part of the song is really neat as well.

A snow light from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World/Composed by Motoi Sakuraba

We end with a masterful song. This song is so peaceful and soothing, even more so than White from Mother 3. The whole thing sounds light and airy. In the second part, the violins take off and sound so beautiful as if playing in a light snow storm. This is one song you can relax to on a cold winter night.
