Game Oddities: PixlBit Edition

Welcome to a random assortment of the odd moments I've had while playing videogames. I started doing this on 1up, and figured it'd be a waste not to bring it over here as well. So without further ado, let's get started! (Click here and here for past entries).

Mega Man Battle Network/GBA: My brother and I both played through this game and had a lot of fun with it around the time when it first came out, so just for fun I started up the game again a few years later just to mess around a little. Everything was fine, at least at first, up until I ran into the first few random enounters. Then I started noticing little graphical glitches here and there and it only got worse from there, eventually causing the game to freeze. It only happened the first time I tried playing, though. Just about every other time I tried the game it worked fine.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn/DS: Try to imagine the situation I was in when this first happened, I had finally gotten my hands on a copy of this game after years of wondering if another game in this series would even come out, and logged in a lot of time in it without saving. That night, while I was exploring the world map a bit I stepped into this one little unassuming patch of land, SAVED and got stuck! I mashed the d-pad of my DS in any direction I could think of, desparately trying to get myself out of this situation without any luck at all. After about ten minutes or so of trying I gave up, telling myself and my brother that I had no choice but to start over again tomorrow, but what I didn't count on was my brother's stubborness. He took my game and spent about another half hour on his DS Lite eventually getting me unstuck from where I was, which he surprised me with when I went to restart the game the next day. I then made a mental not to never save in that area ever again.

Psuedo Entries - Something odd happened for sure, but for particular reasons I have I hesitate to call them official (if that makes any sense to anyone who isn't me).

Smackdown Vs. Raw 2011/PS2: A lot of weird things happened while trying to play this game, ranging from random freezes, longer than normal loading times and for some strange reason having the entrance videos of certain characters slowing the game down to a crawl, I'm hesitant to call this an official entry because I'm not sure if the disc was defective or my already ailing PS2 just couldn't play the disc properly.

Etrian Odyssey IV/3DS: I'm hesitant to put this in but it's something that's been bugging me regardless and maybe someone reading this might have an answer for me. Anyway, from here on it could be considered a little spoilery, so you've been warned. So I was exploring the bonus area after clearing the main portion of the game and made it up to the boss of the area. It was during one of the many attempts I made to defeat it that something odd happened. Normally in it's first stage you only have a certain number of turns to defeat it until it explodes, causing easily fatal damage to your party. Instead of that happening on this particular attempt, however, when it exploded my party took minor damage and for the first time I got to it's second stage. I had no idea I was going to make it that far and was shamefully underprepared but still managed to almost beat it, except my lack of preparedness meant that at a critical moment I ran out of TP and subsequently was taken out. I tried replicating the scenario a bunch of times to little success, and although I did eventually beat the boss, I still wonder what exactly it was that I did? (Just highlight the above text, and if that didn't work, then darn).

Ok, bye.

Oh man. Wanted to hear about Etrian Odyssey IV. I've put in some time into it but not nearly enough, maybe 10 hours or so. I so want to get back to it.

I've got a recent one, and I was quite surprised about it considering how rare it is that I ever get any game oddity.

The Game: LoZ A Link Between Worlds (3DS)

Oddity: One of the later bosses pushed me right through the blocked exit straight into the room with the spoils. Picked up the spoils, saved, went inside the dungeon again and beat the Boss lol.

Whoa, that's pretty interesting! It's been a while since I've encountered an oddity that worked in my favor, most of the ones I've encountered seem to want to reinforce the idea that I have really bad luck.
