I'm a huge Super Hexagon fan myself! I just changed my avatar in anticipation of my own best of 2013 gaming blog.
Thanks for joining the site and blogging with us for a whole year!

Hiya everyone! The reason that I haven't written anything in a while was because I wanted to save a blog for this one, and make it extra long. Why is this blog special, you ask? Well that's because to this date, it's been a year since I began blogging! My first blog was on New year's eve last year, and to be honest, the only reason I made an account and wrote something was because I was bored and I was waiting for guests to come to my families new years party. I had no idea about the rabbit hole I was about to fall into! Here, read the juvenille ramblings of me a year in the past:
Hello 1uppers!
So this is my first post and I thought I might tell the world a bit about myself.
Hmmmmm, lets see, where to start....
Oh, right!
I am a 13 year old (currently) that likes to play games. I am an Indian-American, live in THE most Asian school district in America, West Windsor-Plainsboro. I am a Jets fan (sadly), have a uber man crush on the electronic duo known as Daft Punk (even more sadly). I have been playing games ever since I was around 4 years old when got a Game Boy Advanced SP with Spiderman 2, and I play mainly PS3 games.
My favorite games include Kingdom Hearts, Portal, Journey, Final Fantasy, and Shadow of the Colossus. I think I'll put up another post some other time about the games i like along with reasons why. becaause now i'm too lazy to do that XD.
Happy new year everyone!

I think the funniest thing about this post is that these same things are true today. Well, except for that fact that I'm a year older.
I want to do a "ThatKid's top 10 games of 2013!" like everybody else is doing, but I honestly didn't play that many games that came out this year. This year was the first where I was super into gaming, so it was kind of a catch up year. I'm I'm thankful to everybody here on this site and on 1up because you all broadened my view on games and got me to try a bunch of games that I wouldn't even think of getting. Heck, in this year, I got 36 games on Steam alone. I got a ton of PS3 games as well. Here's to the next year and new experiences!
Obligatory what I've been up to section:
This past week and a half was my winter break (we get back on the 2nd) and I've mostly been vegetating. For Christmas, my parents got me Final Fantasy 13-2 which I have wanted for some time and my sister got me an album from one of my favorite bands. On the Steam sale I upgraded to a premium Team Fortress 2 account and I bought Super Hexagon for 30 cents.
I love Super Hexagon. I loved it since I first heard the name. Like, what kind of game is named Super Hexagon? Like what's that even gonna be about, a hexagon that goes around flying with a cape saving people? Maybe, but that's part of the greatness of this game. It's not about anything. It's quite literally you vs. the computer. It's using your raw reflexes. There's no sugar coating, or hand holding. The games not gonna tell you how to play. After some time, you realize that it's not just about reflexes, there's some repetition to it. You have to use your memory. But then the game screws with you again. You think you can rely on your memory but in reality you have to use your memory and reflexes at the same time. There's no pausing to think. The only break you get is when you die. You can't get mad at the game when playing it because everything that happens is entirely your fault. You don't play Super Hexgon, it's not a game, it's a life experience. It makes you a better person as well as a better gamer.
I've been playing through Final Fantasy 13-2 as well. It's a nice follow up to 13. The biggest difference that I noticed is how open the game is right from the get go. One you get over the introductory section, the game branches off and you can do stuff in different orders as opposed to 13 where it only opened up in the ver last portion. I've read that there are quite a few different endings to the game as well. One thing that it retains from the previous entry is the battle system. I'm mostly a fan of it, but at times it can be a bit frustrating and lead to some stalemates and overly long battles. The monster collecting part is neat but not that noteworthy. The level up system is also revised a bit. It's easier to max out a class this time, but balancing that out between characters is a fun challenge. It's kinda cool to see the old characters again. I'm not really digging the new character redesigns though. They come off as a bit gaudy. This is sort of expected from Square Enix, but this time it's a bit excessive. The voice work is noticably worse. I liked the original's (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE CHARACTER YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) but now a lot of the dialogue is cringe-worthy.
Things I hope to accomplish in 2014:
- Listen to all of my music
This year was awesome because I was able to get a lot of music from the library, but I got a lot. This year I hope to listen to all of it and eventually broaden my musical tase.
- Get better grades
Kinda self explanatory I think
- Be more social
I consider myself an extrovert, but I don't really talk to all that many people. I'm particularly open to my close friends but not much else. This year I hope to make friends with more people.
- Post more here
Believe it or not, I acually read every single one of the blogs that I am able to. I just don't comment much because I don't really have much to say, or my opinions aren't that very noteworthy. This year I hope to write more and hopefully improve my writing skills.
Well, that's all I suppose. Happy New Year everybody!
Good stuff man, congrats on the 1 year anniversary. I started blogging on 1Up many moons ago, but I didn't say much. I dig your goals, and listening to your music is always a good goal to have (one of my goals is to listen to and rate all my music on iTunes). I think we've talked about you getting music from the library, but if not, you should check out the different genres of music the library has to offer. It's free and you who knows, you could find new music you really like.
That Hexigon game looks fun, but I can't play that because it looks like something that would give me a headache.
Happy New Year!
Happy new year! As a seasoned audiophile I can tell you another good place to discover new music is your local college radio station (That is if you have a local college with a radio station). They are getting to be kind of rare these days. Congrats on your first year as a full fledge blogger. I was on 1up for several years and never posted anything. I realy didn't start actually blogging till around the time 1up ended and everyone migrated to here. So this is kind of my first year as a blogger too.
