You can't go wrong with the original Super Mario Bros. That was the first game I ever owned too. Although the first game I ever actually played was Double Dragon on NES. Which I'm still playing lol. I don't know about the DS version, but I sunk way too many hours into Puzzle Quest on PC. Those games are addicting!
Chris' Goals (Don't Call It Resolutions) For 2014, And Something Cool

It's not 2014 yet, I can still play Christmas Music
Well Pixlbit, I am back, and I am here to squeeze one more blog into 2013. First and foremost I like to thank you people of Pixlbit for giving me a home to share my gaming randoms and what not. Like a handful of us, we showed up right after 1Up decided to close (I think it’s still open, but I like my new digs). Anyways to celebrate the beginning of 2014 (Happy 2014 other side of the world!) I thought I’d share my goals of 2014. I don’t want to call them resolutions because most folks don’t hang on to them, but I thought by calling them something else I will be able to keep and work towards the goals of 2014. So here are my Goals for 2014
Games
*In past years I’ve pointed out a handful of games I want to complete but never did, so this year it’ll be different because I’m not just focusing on a handful of games, because it makes it sound like work, instead of picking a game that looks interesting.
Make a dent in Mount Backlog
We all have one, “The Pile of Shame”, “Backlog”, or in my case “Mount Backlog”. It’s a good problem to have but I would like to enjoy some of these games, so I’m going to try and add a new game to my game rotation and try and play through it. Every month I will try and use the fortune cookie feature on Backloggery to pick a random game for me to try and finish within the month. If it’s a Sports Game, I will consider completing it by playing through a season and winning the championship.
Game Spending
I am going to try and cut back on the game spending by not picking up so many “hey it’s cheap, let’s give it a try” type of games. I have enough of those games already, and I need to take some of those down. It’s time to enjoy/ figure out if those games I bought are really good or there is a good reason why they were so cheap.
Digital Hording
This is a big problem when it comes to iOS and Android games because there are a bunch of them that are free. I’ll download them, play them for a bit and then forget them. When I want to delete them, I always do the “I’ll get back to playing it” excuse to leave them on my tablets and they stay there for another couple of months. I’ve actually started to get rid of some games to clear up space and I’m debating on doing the same with some Humble Bundle games I don’t touch. I know I’ll have them still but it’s hard to get rid of those because I spent real money…maybe I’ll let them stay.
To Not Concentrate On Trophies/Achievements
I was never big on these things, but over the past couple of years while playing various games, you get excited to hear that bell or have a pop up appear when something happens in a game. I started to play games for that reason, and I need to stop. It doesn’t really add anything to the game. It’s cool to brag about it for a minute, but then what? I want to play my games, enjoy what I am doing, see the popup, and keep playing. I don’t want to play for the bell or the popup, but play for the enjoyment.
Music
Add Vinyl To iTunes
I have a ton of vinyl, and I need to add them to iTunes. There’s no point in just listening to them at home. I want to enjoy them when I’m on the move as well. For 2014 I’m going to rip Side A as one audio file, and Side B as another. This way I can enjoy the music like I would if I was sitting at home with a turntable. If there are songs that I like I’ll make a rip of them. This way I will have the full albums and singles.
Rate & Listen To Every Track In My iTunes Library
This has been my goal for a couple of years now. When I decided to only have music I purchased on my current laptop, this made it easier but I have since added official mixtapes, some DJ mixes, and some live bootleg stuff which added an additional three thousand or so extra audio files.
I went from having just under nine thousand songs left unheard to over twelve thousand not heard and rated.
I have a total of twenty six thousand audio files in my library, which is almost half the size of my old library. It was fun to say “my library was close to 60k songs” but I didn’t get to enjoy them. Now I own the music I have, and I love what’s on my library. When I’m listening to a mixtape now, if I don’t like it, it gets deleted.
Books
Read More
This is something that I wish I didn’t take a break from in 2013. I was part of a group in 2012 where the object was to read and finish a book a month. That year I think I read 25 or so books. It was fun to learn new things, take part in someone’s story, and laugh a lot. This year I want to go back to reading a book a month. I want to enjoy new stories, and either sit down with my Nexus/iPad, or listen to the many audiobooks I have but haven’t enjoyed yet, I want to get back to reading. Plus it would be fun to go back and continue to fill my Goodreads profile
So there you have it, my goals for 2014. I also have the personal ones like “Improve in 2014”, “Get back into shape”, and the other ones that we all have in common, but these are the fun goals. So Pixlbit what are your goals for 2014? Anything cool?
So yesterday I made the last big pickup of 2013 (unless money falls out of the sky, then I’m hitting the Bentley Dealership).
I decided it was time to pick up one of these, especially since 2014 is starting and the big console for next year is the PS4, plus after watching YouTube videos, I missed playing as Plumbers trying to save a princess by stomping on random animals, only to find out she’s in another castle.
I picked this up at Target because they’re the only store here in the area that still has this version in stock. This is my first Nintendo Handheld since the original Gameboy*
*I bought my 1st Gameboy in high school used for $20. I already had a Game Gear but I wanted to play Tetris and this random NFL football game. Plus it ate less batteries than my GameGear and I could play it on the bus ride to and from school and not worry about it.
I bought a couple of Gameboy Colors a couple of years ago, but I never really played them, so I count this one as my first Nintendo handheld since the original 4 battery Gameboy.
I also bought some stuff for the new handheld, and I bought the points card for one reason
Yes the very first NES game I ever owned (the triple pack that had Duck Hunt, and some Track and Field game)
Before I bought the 3DS XL or what I like to call it “Big Gameboy” I bought some games from a couple of different spots around town
From the local Best Buy, I found these in the Pre-Owned section.
From the rarely visited K-Mart. Steeldiver has been $4.97 for a couple of years now
And from the local GameStop that for some reason was super busy.
The Big Gameboy is going to be my puzzle/trivia gaming device with some Mario Bros. games sprinkled in. I do love this system, but damn there are a lot of hoops to jump through when trying to purchase a game, or download apps (Hulu+ and YouTube). The 3D is turned off because it gives me a headache. I also just noticed my Mii looks like the Overly Attached Girlfriend meme.
Yeah I’m gonna change that right after I upload this blog
And finally the Instagram pic
Yep. I’ll be playing with this for most of the day.
Anyways before we call this a day, I hope you all have a happy and safe New Year!
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
