Game Purchases of 2013 - Digital Games

For my new friends here on PixlBit, I do these kind of blogs every year.  I've been doing them since 2007 back on 1UP.com.  I started doing these blogs to show off my collection of games and to try curving my game buying addiction that has grown over the years.  Buying games wouldn't be so bad if I actually played most of the games I bought.  My backlog is ridiculous.  On top on that, I have a growing family to take care of.  My wife & I had our 5th child this year. Smile  One bonus I didn't account for, from doing these blogs, is that they help me keep track of the games I buy.  You wouldn't believe the number of times I'm thinking about buying a game I really want and I go back to one of my old Game Purchases blogs and find out I already own the damn thing. Embarassed  It doesn't happen often, but this year I double bought 3 games.  I don't sell games, so I'm thinking about giving them away or maybe if someone has a game I don't have is willing to do a trade. Undecided

Anyway, you guys notice the title says, "Digital Games".  I figure I should do a separate blog from my physical games because I ended up with so many digital games this year.  I don't like spending money on digital games.  I don't support them unless I have no choice and even then I usually wait for sales.  Many of them were free though. Laughing

Xbox 360 Games:

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition - This is the best current version of NBA Jam.  Trust me.

El Shaddai - I didn't like the demo, but the game was real cheap during a sale.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

Crysis - I got this free.  Played it a bit and didn't really like it.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior - Got this free.  I have no idea what it is.

Gears of War - Free.

PS3/PSP Games:

Mighty Switch Force - Free.  Why are these women almost naked? Laughing

Mighty Switch Force 2 - Free.

SteamWorld Dig: A Fistfull of Dirt - I don't know if I like this or not.  A lot of digging.

Shantae - I heard this is good.

And that's it for the digital games I got this year.  I think I got them all.

About a week ago, I beat Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS).  It's a pretty good game.  The battles were a little difficult at first, but I got use to them.  Later in the game battles get hard again.  There is noway I would of made it through the game with my teammates dieing and not coming back.  There were mission where everyone died except for 4 people (Chrom & the person I put with him and my character & the person I put with him).  After playing SMTIV (3DS), it was nice to have a game that told me where to go next.  I'll probably playthrough it again.

 photo SoulHackers2_zps3cbf6670.jpg

Right now I'm trying to play Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (3DS).  It's not going so well.  I had problems with SMTIV, but at least it was up-to-date.  Soul Hackers is dated.  The story looks like it should be good, but the interface for the battles is an ancient nightmare.  I thought Persona 1 & 2 were bad.  I just can't see myself continuing to play Soul hackers.  At least not right now.  I'll just have to put the game on hold.  I'm also playing Bioshock.  I just have to make myself play this game.  I hear it's not that long.  If I just focus on playing it, I would of beat it by now.  There are a few games I'm kind of messing around with too.  Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, Skate 3, Gears of War 2, Mighty Switch Force, Super Street Fighter 4 AE.  Too many games and not enough time. Laughing

Well, that's me.  I'll have pics of my physical games next time.  Until then, what are you guys playing? Cool

No such thing as owning too many copies of Mass Effect.

I own 5 copies of Mass Effect 1, 4 copies of Mass Effect 2, and 2 copies of Mass Effect 3. Laughing

Papo and Yo is good.  I reviewed it for Pixlbit.  I liked it a lot.

Wow, congrats on your 5th child.  I think big families are awesome.  I'd love to have one of my own someday.

I didn't know what it was until I saw it for sale on PSN.  I saw a trailer and decided to put down the $5 to get it.

My wife & I planned to have 1 more.  Once you get pass 3 kids, it doesn't get much harder.  It's also nice when the older kids can help take care of the younger ones.

I'm still playing Fez and Batman: Arkham Asylum. I have a lot of games I have not installed from Steam yet, cause I'm thinking I'll save space if I wait until I feel I've completed what I want to of some games, then get them off my hard drive and download others. I am starting to have a problem with buying too many digital games as well, lol

I almost picked up Fez.  I saw it on sale.  Arkham Asylum is great.  I really should playthrough it again.

I have a lot of those too.

I actually enjoyed Soul Hackers because of the story. I had to turn off the alignment thing that prevents you from negotiating with some demons and turn on the automapper for the many dungeons that are filled with nasty warps that hinder your progess. Other than that it's pretty good

Thank you for telling them that.  I still hadn't got over the hidden warps I ran into in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (DS).  Yeah, I think I'll put Soul Hackers down.  I'm really not in the mood to play a game like it at this moment.  Why can't they all be like Persona 3 & 4 (PS2) or Devil Survivor 1 & 2 (DS) or Devil Summoner 1 & 2 (PS2)?

Wow that's a lot of games.  Yes, Shantae and Link's Awakening are good.

Bangai-O is from Treasure.  I thnk they're a bit overrated.

I remember you mentioned they were good games in one of your blogs.  I hope they're not really hard games.

Speaking of TMNT, did you hear that James Avery died yesterday? He voiced Shredder (and played Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince) in the original cartoon. I heard mixed stuff about that TMNT game. I wonder WTF Mighty Switch Force is. That pic doesn't tell me much lol.

About a hour ago, I saw on the twitter feed that James Avery died.  I didn't know he was 65 years old.  I thought he was younger than that.

I was really hoping TMNT: Out of the Shadows was going to be good.  It's not terrible, but they could of made a few changes that would of made it great.  You can unlock an arcade mode that's pretty good.  It's short though and you unlock it a stage at a time.

Mighty Switch Force is a puzzle game.  You play a female cop (that's barely dressed) and you chase down escapees (that are barely dressed).  You have a "switch" button and you use it to get through obstacles.  They get pretty tricky and timing is very important.  You can replay levels to improve your time.

It's a shame Soul-Hackers is frustrating because the character designs look awesome! I'm sorry about James Avery's passing. Loved him as Uncle Phil in Fresh Prince. It's funny because I mistook him for Carl in Family Matters. Guess things from my youth are getting kind of hazy. lol.

Soul Hackers is a disappointment.  I knew it was an old game re-released, but damn.  Maybe, after a little time has passed, I can go back to it.

Now that is a crazy digital backlog, and we have a few games in common (great minds I tell ya). For the UMvC3 did you get all the add-on stuff? I heard that was going to be removed or something like that. One of the best things on your list that everyone should take advantage of is when games are free. Can't go wrong with freebies right?

Congrats on the most important item on that list: Baby #5.

I didn't realized how many I got for free until I went through them. Laughing

I think I have want I wanted for UMvC3.  I already had Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine because I had the collector's edition of the original MvC3.  I didn't want the costume dlcs.  I hope I didn't miss something.

Thanks for reminding me to play SMTIV. I just stacked a bunch of 3DS backlog games and I had fogotten that one. Hope I'll get to it soon.

Beware of the map in SMTIV.  The game will go a lot smoother if you try remembering where you're going and how you got there. Laughing

Will do. Thanks.

Well, there's a good advantage of digital games: you'll be hard pressed to find this many free disc-based games!

jgusw

That is true.  Still, I feel I'm missing something in the fine print. Laughing

See! I knew this would happen! Atleast the only double purchases you've made have been physical games. I sadly did the double digital buy last year. I hang my head in shame. My offer to take some of your backlog is still valid =P

How on earth did you get most of those games for free! I usuall wait too for digital sales given my preferense for phyiscal media but wow!

Some of the free games came from MS giving away actual free digital games to gold xbl members.  Damn shame Sony doesn't do the same.  I got more games from friends that had digital codes they didn't use or from buying used games that still had unused digital codes. Laughing  I got free 3ds and Wii games from using the Nintendo Club.  There are plenty of ways to get free games and there are out there for the taking.
