Starting the new year on a high note

Chu Chu's Flight

From: Xenogears

Remixed by: Jared Hudson

Happy New Year! I think it's bizarre that it's already 2014. Heck, I'm still stuck in the aughts, probably, but we'll just have to make the best of it. After an unintentional hiatus on my part in December, I'm hoping to get regular blogs rolling again in this new year, and what better way to start than with an uplifting song from OCR.

Xenogears is no doubt Yasunori Mitsuda's most well known soundtrack after the two Chrono games, and it is certainly worthy of the renown. Remixer Jared Hudson brings us a peppy orchestral rendition of the song "Flight" from the game. Things start slow but soon pick up, especially when the snare drum enters. Before you know it we're soaring through the blue sky with strings, piano, and brass. The addition of a choir near the end takes things up another level. It's a very peppy, energizing song, and it's perfect for the start of a new year. Cheers, everybody!

"Peppy" is an accurate descriptor by definition, since it is a very lively song, but I tend to understand that term as connotating something light and fluffy, like a catchy Top 40 hit. I'd honestly say the song sounds "inspiring." It has a lot going on and sounds like it signifies the coming of great things. There's a bit more meat to it than what I think of when I think of "peppy."

Of course, that just means you really did pick a great one to ring in the new year.

Happy New Year!

Yeah, I can see that as way to look at "peppy." "Inspiring" is a much better word. Glad I can pick 'em even if I can't describe 'em lol. Happy New Year!

I need to finish Xenogears one of these days. I've tried to play through that game multiple times, and always lose interest, or get distracted by something else. Which is funny considering I finished all of the Xenosaga games, and that took me at least three months lol.

I've never played Xenogears and I have such mixed feelings about whether I want to. I've heard so many good and bad things about it lol. Of course, I still want to own a copy Tongue Out

I was right the opposite, I completed Xenogears but crapped out on the final dungeon in Xeneosaga, lol. I need to hunt that trilogy down and play it all the way through. It had its issues but it was a much better game than the critics gave it credit for.

Great game with a great score.I have both. It can be a tough game to finish but totally worth it.

Hmm, guess I should put in the effort then. First I'll need a copy and then it'll have to get in the back of my long line of RPGs waiting to be played lol

All this song reminds me is that I reallly need to see about getting this game. I've yet to finish Xenosaga thus my reluctants to get this game for fear of wanting to play it before I fnish the main saga. I like.

I don't have any of the Xeno games. Well, except for Xenoblade Chronicles but that one is so long that I'm almost afraid to start it lol. I would certainly like to have the others though.
