December was a much quieter month than November, though certainly not devoid of happenings.
Games Beaten
-Gears of War: Judgment (360)
Played this online with my brother and some friends. I thought it was a great continuation of the series. I haven't played Gears 3 yet, so I can't tell you how it really moves the series forward but it's still tons of great cover-based shooting action. Chainsawing bad guys in half is as satisfying as ever, and the survival mode where you try to defend or destroy the E-hole covers is a blast too. All in all it's a very solid addition to a great series.
Games Bought
-Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (DS)
-Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (360)
I played partway through this on a Redbox rental shortly after it came out and really liked it but never finished. Finally found it for cheap but I think I'll just start over rather than try to pick up where I left off.
-Killzone: Liberation (PSP)
I'ver never played any of the Killzone games but I've heard good things about this portable one and it was only $5 new.
-GRID2 (PS3) (PS+)
-Dyad (PS3) (PS+)
-Soul Sacrifice (Vita) (PS+)
And I have a Vita to play it on!
-Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Vita) (PS+)
I've heard this Mario Kart-alike is actually pretty good.
-F.E.A.R. Files (360)
A stocking stuffer from my wife
-Knights in the Nightmare (PSP)
Also from my wife. I've heard this game is very difficult but I'm looking forward to trying it out. As an added bonus, it came with a free download code for...
-Yggdra Union (digital) (PSP)
-The Walking Dead (digital) (Vita)
Came bundled with my Vita.
-Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Duel Destinies (3DS)
I asked for an eShop giftcard for my birthday so I could get this. I wish there was a physical release but I'm happy that I can play it somehow.
-Gone Home (Mac)
My wife downloaded this after hearing such good things and she started it last night, but so far it really freaks her out. Hopefully she can power through to the end.
Now Playing
This list is nearly identical to last months but that's not surprising since I hardly had time to play anything.
-Gravity Rush (Vita)
This game is really awesome. The mechanics of shifting gravity basically let you fly but the developers switch things up enough to keep it all interesting. It takes place in an 18th century European-esque flying city, which is a nice change from most games, and the characters are likable and interesting. The music and cel-shaded graphics fit the game to a T as well. It's definitely one of the must play games for the Vita.
-Dragon's Crown (PS3)
-Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
Still working through the post-game content.
-Gods Eater Burst (PSP)
That looks similar to my month of December. I only beat two games in December and one of them I played the majority of it in November. I finished up Ghosts earlier this month and Tearaway over the weekend.
I collected up a bunch of games as well... the PS+ offerings and more than a handful of Steam games. I am collecting up my former 360 library on steam so that I can enjoy them whenever I get a proper computer. On a side note, PS+ is looking pretty good in January.
I'm really surprised that BioShock Infinite is hitting PS+ already. I've already played it but I'll be securing my digital copy lol. I'm most excited about DmC since, like most new games from 2013, I haven't played it yet.
What's your opinion of Ghosts? I've heard mixed things about it.
I have not played a Call of Duty campaign since Call of Duty 2. It was mindless fun and pretty much forgettable. I have no idea what was going on with the story but there was at least one level that I enjoyed. It was the underwater one that they showed in the trailers and such. I have had difficulty getting into the multiplayer. Halo has effectively ruined all other multiplayer for me. I am hoping very much that Destiny can bring that style multiplayer to the PS4.
I know that my brother will enjoy dmc and Bioshock Infinite. I am most excited for Don't Starve on the PS4. I was also surprised by Infinite's inclusion, but 2K must know what they are doing.
I played the three Modern Warfare games and enjoyed them, but I'd say that only the campaign of the first one (CoD4) was truly memorable. I've enjoyed the multiplayer but you really have to invest yourself in it. Very different than Halo's.
Personally, I'm a little peeved that Don't Starve is only on the PS4. I mean, come on, I know the PS3 can run it. Oh well, at least I can start to stock up on PS4 games.
Everything you said about Gravity makes me want it so much. I've only played Killzone 2 I think (maybe 3, whichever one where the character was a midget), but I enjoyed the hell out of what I played, especially the nail gun. That's awesome that you got it for $5. I've only played a GoW once as well, but sadly, I don' think I used th chainsaw. Or maybe I forgot I did.
Your wife sounds like a super lady.
Yes, you should definitely drop large amounts of money to get a new Vita and then drop some more for a PS+ membership because Gravity Rush is still free on there, unless I'm mistaken, along with some other great games. And don't forget the money for the money card! While I know it sounds like I'm kidding, it's actually a pretty good idea. Think about it
I've never played any of the Killzone games, so I'm not sure which ones stars a midget. The PSP game is pretty different from the rest of the series but quite good, or so I'm told. And yeah, my wife is pretty dang awesome
Just so we're clear on a couple things: I think you probably realized this, but no KZ game ever actually starred a Little Person. It's just that one of them has a line of first-person vision that is at all the other characters' waist lines, which was a development error, I believe.
Secondly, I no can haz more games, cuz I broke and wanting a new TV. lol That does sound like a lot of hoops to jump through for one free game, though.
The Phoenix Wright game is awesome! The stories, characters, and music are all incredible. I know you'll enjoy it.
I just beat A Link Between Worlds, and of course, recommend it whole-heartedly. Sadly, that's the only game I beat in December, but I was able to get several retro games this month: X-men and Columns (Genesis), Blast Corpse and Rayman 2: The Great Escape (N64), Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (PS1), and Double Dragon II: The Revenge (NES). Those are some great games, so I'm very excited!
if you mind the story you might want to play the first game first since fear files starts off right where the first game ended. that is if you dont mind having the ending to the first game spoiled for you
besides the game having online pass, F3AR does the dead space/resident evil 4/5 route nad has co-op play modes that ruins the fear effect of the game much like how the prior mentioned games ruined the survival horror aspect. because of this you end up missing most of the scares since your usually looking elsewhere or fighting alongside your co-op buddy. and finally the spend more time on the game to jusify its online pass by focusing more on the multiplayer modes than the single player making F3Ar the weakest when it comes to the plot. which is sad given the scares the prior games have to offer. thats why fear files fits my thrilogy better when played between fear 1 & 2.
