I got my sister all the Divergent books for Christmas. She seems to really like them so I'll have to check it out. Feels weird for them to be interested in sci-fy stuff before me though between this and Hunger Games.
No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth

Just took a blogging hiatus.
What have I been up to? Well, let's turn to the tried and true Random Update format, shall we?
Playing: Haven't really been playing much. I did start playing Alundra again last week. I was in a retro mood and Alundra is one of many games comprising Mt. Backlog. I've also been playing a couple of fun, cute turn-based RPGs on kongregate - Crystal Story 2 and Epic Battle Fantasy 3.
Reading: My niece got me Divergent by Veronica Roth for Christmas. It's the first book in the Divergent series. I had it read within 48 hours of having opened it at Christmas. It's another dystopian future young adult series like the Hunger Games, but I think I may actually like it better that The Hunger Games trilogy. I bought the second one last Tuesday, I had a $10 credit at my favorite local independent bookstore, it was 15% off, and I ended up paying about $6 for a new hardcover. Still plugging away at Stormrider, but I don't want to finish it too soon because the next book in the series isn't out yet.
Listening: Listened to a lot of Christmas music trying to get myself into the spirit of the season. None of it the kind of stuff that ever gets airtime or blasted over store loudspeakers. Jed Marum's Rejoice, Schooner Fare's Home for the Holidays, Castlebay's Yuletide Revelry, and a compilation disc called A Celtic Christmas that doesn't have any of that tinkle, tinkle new age crap on it, it's the real deal, much of it in Gaelic, Welsh, and Cornish. Due to the generosity of my sweet grandma, I got a $50 gift card to Amazon for Christmas and picked up two CDs that have been on my wishlist for a while. One's a newly re-issued album from the 60's by a guy named Sean O' Riada called O'Riada sa Gaiety that he did with a band called Ceoltoiri Chalann. The other is the Transatlantic Sessions 3, volume 1. The Transatlantic Sessions bring together traditional singers and musicians from the British Isles and North America and they play together for a couple weeks. This one has one of my favorite songs on it - The Blackest Crow sung by Bruce Molsky and Julie Fowlis.
Watching: I've devoured the first four seasons of Justified and I've dived back into NYPD Blue before I have to cancel my Amazon Prime membership. Also watched a couple of incredibly so-bad-they're-good movies: Red Water and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Had a Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat kick for a while - Hero, The Sorcerer and the White Snake, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Bullet-proof Monk. And a Jason Statham marathon - Redemption, Parker, and Safe. Plus the usual TV shows - NCIS, Person of Interest, Agents of SHIELD, Sleepy Hollow, The Blacklist, Arrow, Revolution, and Law & Order SVU. I think the time has come for them to retire SVU, it's getting tired. However, I think Agents of SHIELD is just getting better.
Other stuff: Been really into photography and cross-stitch lately. The photo a day challenge that I do is addictive. I haven't managed to get a whole month in without missing a few days yet, but I'm 18 for 18 this so far this month. I'll add a link to them once I get them uploaded to Flickr. I'm pretty happy with how a few of them came out. On the cross-stitch end of things, I made almost all of my Christmas presents this year. Also working on a Celtic knotwork design for my friends Fred and Julia's Great Room, and trying to finish off some projects that I started years ago and never finished.
I probably won't get to many of the blogs I've missed the last month or so. I think one of the reasons I've stayed away so long is because I felt guilty about being so behind on reading and commenting on everyone's blogs, and the longer I was gone, the further behind I got. I know, it makes no sense, but depression is like that. I'll definitely be taking part in BaD and I plan on starting on my list of topics shortly so I have something to write about and don't have to resort to too many cute kitty cat pictures.
