THIS Is The Kind Of Crap I Was Making Fun Of

Oh, wow. I am shocked--SHOCKED--that this random grab-bag of punchy sounding specs and features from an "unknown source" ended up being bullshit.

The graphics solution in particular set off my "this is a load of crap" alarm immediately. At 4.6 teraflops, that would put it at the same level as AMD's r9 290 card. Which by itself costs more than an entire PS4. And this is supposed to fit into the tiny console space, when even the most bleeding edge laptop graphics chips are only half as powerful and astronomically expensive.

It would be weird enough if it was Sony or Microsoft. But Nintendo? Seriously? Like hell they'd try that when it'll probably STILL be prohibitively expensive to put in a console 4-5 years from now. Then there's other stuff like the "holographic flash cards" (what the fuck does that even mean?), or the handheld having Gorilla Glass, or how it's going to have cellphone connectivity but only be 3G...it all sounds like some dude whipped up a list of cool sounding stuff and pretended it was real.

I mean, seriously. At least with the Xone and PS4 rumors, the stuff we heard sounded plausible. Like how they said we could see breakable DualShock pads that could double as Move controllers--an idea based on existing patents that would've dovetailed nicely with the Playstation Camera. Or how the rumored specs were actually WEAKER than the final models, due to both the CPU and GPU being one singular unit. I certainly didn't suspect that they'd be able to pull 7870-level performance out of that set up.

But we saw plenty of stupid rumors, too. And the sad thing isn't that people are making up stuff like this, but how several big news outlets ran the story without really fact-checking it. And then got caught with their pants down when one site did actual journalism by checking the source.

The whole situation is just pathetic. -_-

You know what this reminds me of? Before the Wii release, there were Youtube videos where people would have images of say a football field and the image would change to match up with their perspective when they turned their heads.

I wonder what happened to that. It was different than what Oculus Rift does and required no goggles. Wonder what happened there, or if it was an editing trick.

Sounds sci-fi as hell. I doubt even the PS3 could handle all that, LOL. :p

Kotaku (Gawker in general) = Tabloid News

Ironically enough, Kotaku was one of the few sites that DIDN'T just report on it to get some random clicks.

Wah? Now that's surprising. Maybe they've learn to sit and wait like a good dog. Maybe.

So NOW it makes sense! I thought there was something odd when Forbes ran that article on the specs. Seemed to go against everything nintendo has been trying to do with their systems.

I should've known better when Forbes tries to talk about gaming.
