I both like and loathe girls. It's definitely clever and real, but I also feel like it glamorizes that NYC lifestyle, which is really the pits and leaves you jaded and terrible. Anyway, that's my experience.
Quick Hits: Some Gifts, Some Pickups, And TV Shows

Happy Friday Pixlbit! The weekend is here, and it is time to relax and enjoy some free time, especially if you had a short week. I have been up to my usual bag of tricks as well as planning out how I am going to approach the upcoming Blog A Day. I’m thinking a bunch of mini topics that would normally make up Quick Hits, and randoms that pop into my head that morning. Yep 10 days into BaD, and I’m going to be scrambling for topics (red vs scarlet, random dreams, etc.), but for now I’m feeling good that I have some topics ready. So for this week’s Quick Hits I’m going to cover more Birthday Goodies, TV Shows, and random pickups. Sound good? Well good, so let’s get this edition of Quick Hits started!
More Birthday Goodies
The family hooked it up for gifts which is always cool, and I thought I’d share some of the cool things I got.
I finally used the GameStop 20% off coupon off a used game. I used it on
Based on the game I’m playing on the Vita. Originally I was neutral about the 2nd version because there wasn’t anything that jumped out at me, but as I got more into the game I’m really enjoying the paint/thinner options to get me through levels. I thought this was a cleaver feature that made an ok platformer interesting. Hopefully this game will be more of the same.
I got some cash, and after a recommendation from a family member I decided to give these games a try
I’m not a Pokemon fan (random story: during my first summer with the Disney College Program many moons ago, my roommate and I would get up late because we always worked nights, we always watched the cartoon). Oh where was I…oh yeah, so I couldn’t decide on which version to get so I got both. I started with X and I am an hour into it. I know they’re basically the same game minus some different Pokemon but it’s cool.
I do have one problem when playing. I want to swap out members of my 6 Pokemon with ones I caught but I have no idea how to do it. I thought this game was supposed to be made for folks 6 years old and older. This could be my “old man moment”
My most favorite birthday gifts came from my younger cousin and her “loom.” I called it the “Fruit of the Loom” but I think that went over a 10 year old’s head. She’s the cousin that made me my duct tape wallets and now she’s into rubber bands
She made me a red and black wrist strap for the Big Gameboy. When we sized it, it fit but after she got it onto the Big Gameboy it was a little snug. It fits around my hand which is cool, but she solved my wrist strap problem.
My other favorite item she made for me is a little charm
I wanted a little panda bear because she had a polar bear in her container of stuff, but she didn’t know how to add color so the slipper is the next best thing. I’m impressed by her work because while she’s always trying to get her little crafts to be better. Heck I’m still using my Cowboys wallet as my dollar wallet.
TV Time!
So in my last Quick Hits, I wanted to talk about the new season of shows but since I found a bunch of CDs, I decided to hold it for this week.
House of Lies is back and so far the season is good. I thought last season’s finale was crazy, and it’s good to see it pick right up where the awkwardness ended. The characters are still over the top, but that’s what makes the show tick.
I tend to watch half a season of this show, stop watching and after the season ends go back and finish off the rest of the season on HBO Go. The Girls themselves seem to work well together but I really like Adam because he’s so out there, yet he doesn’t have a filter which makes him the most honest person on the show. Shoshanna is quickly becoming another favorite character because she’s still a bit naïve, honest, and is maturing from previous seasons.
The main reason why I watch…obvious reasons
The final show I want to mention is
I’m getting tired of Shameless. It was fun the first season, and has topped it’s wild storylines each season, but for me the magic is starting to disappear. I watched the first episode of the new season which set into motion the big storylines for the season, but after that I haven’t kept up with it. I’ll probably watch last week’s episode before Sunday when the new one premiers, but as of right now, I’ll most likely take in the entire season this summer.
Pickups!
So I’m trying to stick to my pickups on the cheap and I found some fun stuff in random spots, as well as the usual suspects.
I picked up some PS2 games that were 75% off at GameStop. Check your GameStop! I met an awesome employee who camped out on the floor digging through a bottom drawer looking for games for me. I kept apologizing but he would have none of it. I left positive feedback on TellGameStop.
I also added some new DS games to my library
I wish there was a way to reset Elite Beat Agents but it’s not a big deal. Everything else was easy to reset, and the Crossword game was a little tough because it was set to Spanish so there was some guessing and Google Translate to get me on the right path.
Some Clearance games from a random Target
I’m going to play a Dynasty with a Sun Belt team and not move them. This should be interesting.
My CD finds at a local thrift store. Apparently they moved the CDs to the book section next to the records. I found more CDs but when I went to check on the discs, they were empty (Grateful Dead, Kiss Unplugged, a couple of rap albums). Ugh! Either the former owner forgot, or someone stole them. The Aly & AJ CD was in the spot where the CD book would have been in the Rihanna album.
Some Clearance CDs
I now have the second James Taylor’s Greatest Hits CD, and the other album…it turns out that it is religious. Not my thing but oh well.
My next finds were found at a .99 Cents Store. This place has some random stuff like random. I like the .99 Cent Only stores because the selection of items is so random. I once found X-Box and GBA Advance games, to random foods. This store is the infamous store where I bought a bag of sunflower seeds, and my face swelled up (hello nut and seed allergy, the ultimate in first world problems). So while looking through the various things in the store I hit the CD/DVD section, which is in the candy aisle. For $5 I found the following
A couple of PSP UMD movies. I was one of the few fans of this format. My only gripe with the UMD is that they were flimsy.
A Blu-ray of some show from PBS. I bought one for my brother but he didn’t want it.
Remember when USC was gonna steamroll the Longhorns…until Reggie Bush tried to pitch the ball off and then fumbled? After that it was VY’s game.
The final pickup is my first thrift store jersey of the year.
At the same thrift store I found the CDs, I went to look through the a random rounder before I left and I spotted a Rich Gannon Raiders jersey. It was beat so I left it, but I spotted the sleeve of this jersey and decided to take a look.
You can’t go wrong with a Rodney Harrison jersey. Remember when Harrison and Junior Seau were the scariest guys on the Chargers Defense?
Well Pixlbit, it’s time to enjoy the rest of Friday, and for me to figure out how to swap out the Pokemon
That’s all for now, more later!
