A reason to try out Playstation Home

I was going to post my latest “MyBuys” blog but thought I should perform a type of PSA for those interested in some free game offers.

To celebrate the release of the PS4, Sony decided to give away some free download codes to some choice Classic PSOne titles. But there’s a catch: You can only get this off of Playstation Home.

For those unknown to Playstation Home, it’s a virtual 3D social gaming platform developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's London Studio for the PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network. You could think of it as a poorly implemented version of “Second Life” that’s found on PC’s. You get to create avatars to run around in the various “spaces” that Playstation Home has to offer. Some are created by game companies. Others to fit a general theme of exploration but I digress.

To be able to get your free download codes you not only have to download the program and create your avatar, but you also have to visit the PS4 Experience Space and play the mini game entitled “Quest for Greatness”. The game itself is neither too long nor difficult and will mostly take up about 10 minutes of your time to complete. It basically plays like a scavenger hunt within the PS4 Experience Space where you have to locate 13 digital cards to help you find the answers to unlock the PS4 Vault. Not only do you win avatar related items as you progress in the game, like clothing for your avatar and PS related props for your personal home space, but you’ll find three PSOne Classic cards that’ll contain download codes located on the back of them.

Given that I do frequent Playstation Home from time to time, this quaint mini-game wasn’t that much trouble. Plus who could scoff at the chance to score some free games to help bolster my digital collection of games on my PS3/PSP. The thing is the games that are being offered might not be for everyone since they consist of the PSOne Classics titles of Warhawk, Destruction Derby and Twisted Metal. True they might be considered dated by some but given that these games go for $5.99 on the Playstation Store it wouldn’t be much trouble to enjoy some freebies offered. So if you’re so inclined to trouble yourself with Playstation Home you could score yourself some free games in the process.

And even better if you visit “The Hub” Space in Playstation Home, you’ll automatically get five poster stands of Syphon Filter 1 & 2, Medievil, Tomba and Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits that will eventually be offered as digital cards in the future. You might have to visit “The Hub” more than once to collect them all but the trouble might be worth it if indeed these five titles will eventually be offered as the next patch of free games in the Quest for Greatness game.

So if you’re interested you better hurry fast for this event is happening for only a limited time. If you haven’t tried out Playstation Home and want to get some free games for the trouble, this might be a good chance to give it a try. Seeing the FMV’s in Warhawk is more than worth it!

If you don’t want to muddle thru it here’s a link for a complete guide to the game. Enjoy!

Thanks for the heads up. I have never bothered with PS Home but I am down with free games. I actually have a copy of Warhawk but having it on the go would be great. And those other games! I want those! Hopefully I won't space out about all this tomorrow and I can set up Home and get this stuff.

Excellent! Hope it wasn't too much trouble being a first time PS Home user in having to download the program for the first time.

The downloads didn't take long but the little card hunt was tedious lol. But it turns out my wife played a lot Second Life back in the day, so she was geeking out when she saw Home and made a little avatar after me. I hope she doesn't waste too much time on there Tongue Out

I'd do it if I had a PS4. I remember Twisted Metal 2 a lot better than the others, aside from maybe 3.

Oh, I don't know. I guess I thought since this was celebrating PS4 release, it would be. Honestly, I forgot Home existed before you mentioned it.

Destruction Derby is ok but I really love Destruction Derby 2. I wish they'd give that one away.

I'm just shocked to see how long it takes for Destruction Derby to even load! did it take that long for PS1 titles to load? *shudders*

I don't really remember but I would guess no, that they loaded really quickly.

I've had a Home account since the beginning but I haven't used it in years. My Avatar is still dressed as the guy from Infamous. :)

That's cool they are offering free games. I finished all of my PS3 games and put it up in storage though. I'm too lazy to dig it out lol.

that's the great thing for digital games offered for the PS3: No storage needed. Their all on the HD. It's like PC gaming, only better.

Free games are always good!
