"Let's Play" have lost a great man today

I was going to post my “MyBuys” blog but recent tragic news has just broke today about the tragic suicide of Justin Carmical, known by many as “Jew Wario”. He’s best known for his “You Can Play This” video series that shined a spotlight on his love for import titles. Among the many of the “Let’s Play” creators out there he rose to popularity along with being remembered during his time with Channel Awesome. He starred in various cross-overs with other online personalities from Channel Awesome along with his continued works after parting ways with them. He’s contributed to various projects from Play Proceeds Clockwise, Spine Breakers, The Gaming Pipeline, Yanki J Plays, Stuck In Your Head and J-Dub Reviews.

I remember watching his work from time to time given my budding interest in import titles. I almost even donated a game for him to review. But for me the best I’ll remember him by was with this “Let’s Play” of Fatal Frame II a few Halloweens back.

Though details are scare it’s reported that his wife was in the house with him when his passing took place Thursday January 23rd.

It’s a real tragedy to all in the gaming community to lose someone as interesting and special as Justin was when it came to games and community at large. Hearing of this news even took me back when I learned of it from Noah “Spoony” Antwiler and Lewis Jeffery Lovhaug’s twitter feeds.

May Justin Carmical rest in peace. Thank you for all you’ve done. You shall be missed.

Not familiar with his work, but I am familiar with this sort of tragedy.  It's really sad when this happens.  I hope his wife is ok.  Frown

That bit of news that he took his own life was shocking to everyone. People said he was the cherriest, nicest guy you could ever meet. Always said hello and came off like he was a friend to everyone. Reports say he looked just find during this year's Magfest. His wife posted something on facebook but given I don't have facebook I can't read it.

There's already a fundraiser started for his family.

His wife confirmed she was talking to him from behind the bathroom door when he shot himself. Frown You actually can view that without a Facebook I think, but that's the gist.

I saw Cinema Snob's text eulogy to him earlier as well as Rob Walker's after a post by Brad Jones on my feed about some behind the scenes footage of Justin on To Boldly Flee. Just a sad thing. Hope he rests in peace, everyone has said he was the nicest guy.

woah. Now that's harsh. I saw the link to the facebook posting but it kept sending me to a sign in page. I can't even imagine what his wife is going thru right now with being so close to him before the act.

the eulogies have been coming in from all that have known him and worked with him. Even child actress Mara Wilson had only kind things to say about him. He will truley be missed.

Oh ok. I guess I was signed into FB. And yeah, Mara Wilson has more or less become part of the TGWTG culture herself after that NC video.

I've never gotten into watching Let's Play videos, so I hadn't heard of him, but this sort of news is always very sad Frown

same here given I'm not much for "Let's Plays" myself. The only one I really enjoyed watching him do though was this "Fatal Frame II". I'd have posted it on here but it seems it's only on blip.tv.

News like this is always sad, epsecially if it's about someone you got to know over the years as an internet personality. I'll miss the guy and his love for all that is import and retro.

He's easy to find on youtube and blip.tv. I've posted some of this videos on this posting, along with an introduction to his YCPT video series. Hope you like them. I sure did back in the day.

I never knew him personally, but I always looked forward to his videos because of how energetic and upbeat he was. I hope his wife is getting the support she needs right now.

same here. the cloest I ever got to him was with an email contact to see about donating my copy for Macross: DYRL for the sega saturn that he could review. Given the outpouring of support from the fans and those he worked with I'm sure she's won't be alone in this.

Man, RIP JewWario. Even if I never saw his complete work and i've been seeing less from TGWTG recently (except from Todd in the Shadows and Jesuotaku), I always liked his videos when I had the time to see them and really liked his participation on the Suburban Knights and To Bodly Flee specials. It's even more sad once I heard his cause of deathFrown
