So as such a tradition of mine has always been to watch the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray. Now you may know of Groundhog Day you may not. Essentially, it's a day in the great state of Pennsylvania (Where I'm from) in which the people of Punxatawney engage in a festive festival. And what exactly do they do? Why they all gather round and watch a groundhog named Phil get pulled out from his home sweet home to tell us whether or not there will be 6 more weeks of winter or an early spring based upon seeing his shadow or not.

The movie on the other hand is a classic romantic comedy that speaks to anyone. What if you had to relive the same day over and over and over again? It's a concept that has been touched on, but it's very effective here in this movie. I think a lot of us could identify with the character that Bill Murray plays. Surely at first he's unlikable, he's rude, he's human though. And quickly he begins to dread the immortality of having to live a forever day on an unfortunate holiday that is Groundhog Day. Where everyday he sees the same groundhog see his shadow. Where everyday an insurance salesman pesters him to no end. It's engrossing to watch how miserable he gets.

In fact he goes through a lot of change that like I said many can identify with. At first he chalks it up to deja vu. Then he realizes that he can do whatever he wants to do and becomes a kid in a candy store of sorts knocking off bank trucks and having meaningless sex with women. He soon begins to want out of this dreadful day and tries and fails because essentially he resets everytime to kill himself. Finally he sees that he can make the best out of it and become a good person who falls in love and comes through finally at the end to see the 3rd day of February.

Basically I'm reviewing a movie I know, but it's a classic. I highly recommend watching it if you haven't and if you have...well watch it again...I mean it's a classic!

i think they teach that movie in some colleges, or so I've heard.  It has a very sound philosophical premise.

Yeah and even according to the director in an interview he did it's become a sort of cultural religious study as well in some colleges. It just has so many themes both philosophically and psychologically that I'm sure you could spend an entire semester dissecting it.

I didn't like Groundhog Day that much the first time I watched it. Now I could never get tired of it. Everytime I hear that damn Sonny and Cher song I think of that movie.

You know I didn't either, but I think it's because I was younger than. Now that I'm older I get the humor and many of the themes so I appreciate it more. I think that is with anyone really.

a lot of people I know love this movie, and it comes on TV a lot, but I've never seen it. You know if it's coming on any of the broadcast channels like FOX, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, CW, etc. soon?

I doubt it is going to be on anything today. It's no Charlie Brown Christmas type thing they show every year. However, I usually see it come on AMC. If it's not on there I would just recommend finding a dvd copy for like $5. It used to be on Netflix, but they pulled it from there Cry

Actually, they did used to show it every year on one of the local Dallas stations on or around Groundhog day, I just don't know which one, if that's still the case, or if Nacogdoches has the same programming.

as for AMC, I don't have cable, and boo Netflix for removing it.

It certainly is a darn good movie. But why the wait. There should be a marathon to make up for lost viewings. Just play it on repeat lol.

I thought Groundhog Day was the day you get a Resetti Statue in Animal Crossing. :)
