Here we are, Blog a Day 2014! I have a series of things to talk about, but for today it's a wrap up of last month. I'm at the mercy of tradition!

Games Beaten

-Gravity Rush (PSP) (PS+)

Gravity Rush is a stellar game. The cel-shaded graphics resemble a cartoon and the soundtrack (a real orchestra?) paints the settings, an 18th century Europe-esque flying city and the strange rift planes, beautifully. The mechanics of shifting gravity basically let you fly and exploring the city is a joy. The game is neither too long nor too hard but plenty of extra missions like races and time attacks to kill enemies provide lots of challenge for those who want it. The localization is also excellent.

-Mario Party 2 (N64-VC)

Mario Party 2 is in many ways a very good, if safe, sequel. Hudson didn't mess much with the formula established in the first game and that's not a bad thing. The game has a ton of personality and the boards are all very distinct. A few of them aren't designed very well, though, and the selection of mini games was disappointing. The music is very catchy and the graphics are very good for an N64 game. It's a solid entry but I think it's been surpassed by some of its sequels.

-Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC-VC)

Oracle of Seasons was definitely inspired by Link's Awakening. The graphics are very similar, of course, albeit in color. Same goes for the music. I think they might have even lifted the overworld theme from LA wholesale. It's very linear but you can explore within that framework for pieces of heart and other upgrades. The dungeons are pretty decent but the bosses are by and large disappointing. Very simple affairs. It's quite a good game and fun to play, for sure, but it's mid-tier Zelda.

Games Bought

-Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD (Vita) (PS+)

-Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS)

My wife played through this during January. My turn next!

-Odama (GCN)

-Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader (GCN)

-Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (GCN)

-Midway Arcade Treasures 3 (GCN)

These four were super cheap. I think only Odama was more than a dollar.

-Mario Party 2 (N64-VC)

-Killzone: Mercenary (Vita) (digital)

That $9 sale on PSN was too much to resist.

-Toki Tori 2+ (Mac)

This was the kicker that pushed me into getting the Humble Bundle in January. But of course there were a bunch of other games too.

-To the Moon (Mac)

-Surgeon Simulator (Mac)

-Strike Suit Zero (Mac)

This one looks like a really cool space combat game.

-Reus (Mac)

-Papo & Yo (Mac)

-Hoard (Mac)

-Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (PSN)

-Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (WiiU)

$9 on clearance at Target. $25 is the cheapest most places will sell it for.

-Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PSN) (PS+)

-Worms: Battle Island (PSN) (PS+)

Now Playing

Killzone: Mercenary

-Killzone: Mercenary (Vita)

This is a shockingly good FPS.

-Pirate Code (Mac)

Yay for the new Mac version!

-Dragon's Crown (PS3)

-Gods Eater Burst (PSP)

That's a shitload of games there. Of course I have all of those PSN+ games too. One day I'll get around to playing them.

I know! I regularly have thoughts like, "Oh! I need to play Binary Domain!" or "Oh! I need to play Hitman: Absolution!" Still haven't touched them. But I will!

Talk about an ever growing backlog.  I did my best to abstain from gaming purchases in January.  For the most part, I succeeded.  I am happily pround of myself especially since there were a bunch of tempting sales on the PSN.

I guess that I forgot about the sale that I picked up Thomas Was Alone and Killzone Mercenary.  That just felt like such a long time ago.

Yes, but they were cheap! January did seem like an awfully long month though. I was surprised to see that those GameCube games were part of the month too.

Rogue Leader is one of my favorite Gamecube games. I put so much time into that one trying to get all the medals and what not. Some of the requirements are ridiculous. I plan on buying Blood Dragon off Steam when it goes on sale. Even though I already "own" (my psn account is all screwed up unfortunately) it on PS3 lol.

I had Rogue Squadron III back in the day (it's still at my parents' house actually) and that game includes all of Rogue Leader as a co-op game. Me and my older brother played through most of it but it eventually got so hard that I don't think we finished it. I'm looking forward trying it on my own. And that opening Death Star level is worth it alone!

I've got alot on my backlog myself. I think will try to clear at least one game during BaD but I haven't figured out what yet. Dragon's Crown is really good too. Beat the game on normal and haven't finished the Hard diffculty yet.

Yeah, my backlog is pretty ridiculous, but it seems such a shame to pass up a good deal just because I have a bunch already Tongue Out

Mario Party 2 is "supposedly" the best in the series, but I thought MP7 was fantastic (my personal favorite).

I'm hoping to increase my retro game collection as much as possible this year. I'm completely behind the modern gaming trend, but I don't mind at all.

Mario Party 2 has a ton of personality and the developers obviously had a ton of fun making it. It's good but I'd say 7 is better.

I had a great time with Gravity Rush too. I think I finished it in like two sittings. Very well thought out world

Gravity Rush can really suck you in. Looking forward to the sequel!

Is Gods Eater Burst (PSP) any good?  I always see it and pass it by.

It is! It's similar to Monster Hunter, you know, but actually has a story (very anime-ish but interesting) and isn't so needlessly complicated. I'd recommend it, especially if you can get some real people to play with, though the AI teammates are surprisingly competent.

Played Terraway on a Vita at Gamestop the other day, and the gyroscope tech made me really wanna try Gravity Rush.

Tearaway is high up my list of Vita games to get, especially after transmet has gushed about it so much.

If I had a Vita, Gravity Rush would be one of the games I'd get for it.

Did your copy of Odama come with a microphone?  I think you need it for that game.

Gods Eater Burst's music was done by my favorite video game music composer: Go Shiina.

Yes, Odama came with the microphone. I was surprised because there was no box but at least it came with everything needed to play it. Such a strange game.

Gravity Rush would most likely be one of the first games I'd buy if I get a Vita. If it's short but satisfying like Portal, then i'm sure i'll be fine.

Gravity Rush gets a full recommendation from me! And they announced a sequel at last year's Tokyo Game Show, so I'm excited for that Smile

I can't afford to buy games right now. This makes me sad, but it does give me time to work on my backlog.

Nothing wrong with playing what you have Smile
