Heh, I thought this was going to be a Street Fighter-esque game! I totally called it wrong.

It is Day 2 of BaD, and how are you good people doing? I’m doing well, it’s a little chilly here in sunny SoCal (by chilly I mean 67 degrees). For today’s edition of BaD I decided to give a first look at a new game I purchased yesterday.
Lego Star Wars Microfighters was released yesterday on iOS. The game is priced a $1.00 which isn’t bad considering that you are playing a game that is A.) either a new outlet to showcase their brand in an exciting way or B.) Lego and Lucas Arts just got me to spend $1.00 on an ad for their new line of Star Wars toys. I’m leaning with a little bit from column A and a little bit of column B. Whatever the case may be, this game can be described an entertaining little top down shooter in the vein of Raiden or your favorite scrolling shooters.
The game begins with you picking a side, The Force or The Dark Side. Each side has their own set of missions, backgrounds, and music. I sided with The Force with my initial game, getting a feel for what I was to expect
There are a few familiar elements in this game that play an important role in the previous console games, Minikits, Gold and Red Bricks, and collecting Lego studs. Lego Studs are collected when you destroy an enemy, red bricks are hidden within a level. There are one red brick per level. As for the Gold Bricks, there are two per level. One is earned for completing the level, and the other is for achieving True Pilot status, by collecting Lego studs and filling a meter at the top of the screen.
The minikits are different. Instead of collecting them to build a model, they are used as weapon upgrades during gameplay.
When your vehicle takes enough damage and is destroyed, you tap on the screen to quickly build it back up to get back into the game. Gameplay is a lot like your typical scrolling shooter, but isn’t anywhere near a bullet hell game, but there are enough lasers being fired at you to keep the game interesting.
Upon completing a level you go through the same motions of adding up the score, and viewing what items you unlock. The next screen you encounter is for an extras you can rent for the next mission. The more red bricks you unlock, the more items you can rent. Each extra has a set Lego Stud price that isn’t bad considering there are options like magnet, and 2X the Lego Studs. Using items like this could pay off, and pay for themselves (I need one more red brick to unlock the 2X option).
I can’t say if this game is a must buy or a skip, considering I’ve only had a couple of hours to play the game, but if you have a $1.00 burning a hole in your wallet, and like the Lego Universe or Shooters, you might want to check it out. Of course if Lego had it’s way, you would play this game, and then go out and purchase the vehicles seen in the game.
Well Pixlbit, it’s back to taking down members of the Dark Side!
That’s all for now, more later!
