Linked to Article Series: Blog a Day (BaD) 2014

It'll be a quick one today, folks,, as I'm trying to catch up and keep caught up on blogs here.

Reading: Not much lately. Been a couch potato. Boo for that. Anyway, read the new Firefly comic in the car while I was waiting for Jason to ship back the TV he bought that arrived broken. I liked it, it's the first of a six episode series, and it's Firefly. What's not to like?

Watching: Way too much. Did I mention I've become a couch potato? I'm down to the last two seasons of NYPD Blue. One of the best cop shows ever made, in my opinion. I just spent a bit more of my gift card haul from my mom on Amazon and bought the first season of Third Watch. Yes, I am a cop show junkie. Jason and I watched a really good movie called The Way Back about a bunch of prisoners who escape from a Siberian work camp and walk all the way across the Himalayas to India. Most of them didn't make it.

Listening: Been digging through the CDs and binging on 80s stuff. Don't judge.

Playing: I almost finished off Epic Battle Fantasy 3, but the last boss is proving problematic. I'd go grind some more, but I'm at level 30, and that's the cap. It was a fun game for a freebie flash game. I got 10+hours out of it, which is longer than some games I've bought. I'll write something more about it later when I'm scrambling for things to write about for BaD. I also started Tales of Xillia last weekend. I'm enjoying it, but I've never met a Tales game I didn't like. I really should go back and finish off Graces f, but I got so fed up with that stupid floor puzzle in the final dungeon that I rage quit and haven't gone back to it. What it needs is a diagram, but I haven't found one (OK< maybe I haven't looked all tht hard, either). Anyway, Xillia is keeping me entertained and my plan for tomorrow's snowstorm is to spend the day playing it.

Other stuff: I managed to post a photo a day for the photo a day challenge last month and I'm going to try to keep up with it this month, too. Some of the prompts stump me, as I tend to lean towards nature photography, but I usually manage to come up with something.

Other than that, I lead a boring life these days.

I'm working on Graces F right now. Got to Fodra last night. I'm in the middle of the lab where you have to swap dead batteries for charged ones. I'm hoping the last dungeon doesn't make me quit because I want the satisfaction of completing a Tales game.

The floor puzzles in the final dungeon have colored tiles that you have to walk across in the right order or you end up in a battle (and maybe shunted back to the beginning, but at this point I don't remember).

I finished the main stories of Symphonia and Legendia, I just never did the added stuff after the main story.

I got to disk 2 in Symphonia and then quit. I have no idea why.

The first time I played Symphonia, I hated it. It went back on the shelf and it was a couple of years before I picked it up again. I don't know what changed, but the second time I loved it and played it all the way through without getting distracted.

I never could get into Tales games either. I'm just too damn picky when it comes to rpgs. I figure if your gonna invest that much time into something it better be great.

I think you misunderstood, Aaron. I've liked all the Tales games. The finer points of the battle systems usually go over my head and I just mash buttons and hope for the best, but I do like the series.

my life is pretty boring too.  What's exciting is when I write a new piece of music.  I like it like that.

Boring isnt bad, I just hate being broke. It's cool that you're creating music, though. I'm just getting fat and lazy.

The only Tales game I didn't like all that much was Legendia. While reading about the game afterwards, I found out it wasn't worked on by the main Tales staff, and that answered why it didn't feel right to me.

I actually really liked Legendia. It may have been because I plyed it shortly after my dad died and there was a character named Moses in it and Moses was my dad's name.

Yeah it's hard to keep up with all the blogs during this blog a day thing.

I'm going to try my best. Good thing I'm not working at the moment, otherwise I'd never find the time.

Contrary to judging 80s stuff, I will ask if you think of any songs a Classic Hits station should absolutely have from that decade, as we switch to that format on weekends. A couple of my favorites are "And We Danced" and "Heat of the Moment," as well as "You Belong to the City" from Miami Vice/Brad Jones' Midnight Heat movie, which got me into 80s music that wasn't hair metal.

Oh, gosh - so much to choose from! Pretty much anything off Phil Collins' No Jacket Required, Walk of Life by Dire Straits, Don't You Forget About Me by the Thompson Twins, White Wedding by Billy Idol, The Hunter by GTR, Private Dancer and What's Love Got to Do With It by Tina Turner, Like a Prayer by Madonna, Downeaster Alexa by Billy Joel to name a few.

We have a couple/few from Phil Collins, I believe "One More Night" is one. Have at least "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits, I'll see about other song you mentioned. I do believe we have what I know as The Breakfast Club theme song. lol I love playing White Wedding and esp. Rebel Yell, I think we have all his hits for the most part, except Lemon Tree, which was actually released when I was in middle/high school; might even have that one for alt rock. I'd have to check as far as GTR, but we have Tina Turner, and I believe both of those songs, actually just uploaded a LOT of Madonna songs today from a CD, and also uploaded some Billy Joel, though the song you mentioned was not one I uploaded. May or may not have it.

Thank you so much!

Man, GTR brings back memories. Steve Hackett of Genesis and Steve Howe of Yes. There was some good moments on that album, but I thought the vocals by Max Bacon were a tad shrill and over polished for my taste. I was so into those guitarists at the time though.

Wait 80s music AND a Firefly comic? That right there is gold, GOLD I TELL YA! I will now cuss in Chinese...I miss Firefly.

I used to stay home on Friday nights and watch Firefly. Sigh.

I was really late to the party...I didn't start watching it until after it was cancelled, and bought it on DVD.

It's OK, it made more sense watching them in order. Stupid FOX. I think they set Firefly up to fail on purpose - who the hell airs the first episode of a story arc four or five episodes in?

I heard about that when I used to listen to Leo Laporte's This Week In Tech. Actually because of their constant conversations about Firefly is what got me to watch the series

When you mentioned "The Way Back", I thought you talking about that movie that came out last year with Sam Rockwell in it.  But I think it's called "The Way Way Back", or something like that.

Jamie, this one has Ed Harris and Colin Ferrell in it. I think it came out in 2010.

The Firefly comic is out? I remember seeing ads for it. I was going to check it out too. I guess I just missed it.

I don't know when it came out, it's Jason's, but he loaned it to me.

Winter always seems like a good time for me to try out some RPG's. Too bad the ones I really want to play are down in the basement were it's cold. Kudos for you in getting some game on!

Winter and RPGs go together so well. And today we're having yet another snow storm, so I've been getting plenty of RPG goodness.
