Attack Of The Drones!

I saw a video on YouTube recently about MAV's. Or Micro Air Vehicles. I wasn't really shocked or even surprised by it at first. The video was made by the Air Force Research Laboratory. It shows various sizes and shapes of surveillance drones in use. Perhaps some are tech demos, but they are coming. The video was interesting to me because it was presented much like a video game preview or something.

I don't want to get all Mr. Conspiracy Theory here or get political. I know this isn't the site for that sort of blog. But you can't escape the word drone in the news. Seems to be everywhere. No big secret that the CIA has used drones to eliminate targets in foreign countries. The military uses them, too. Sometimes these drone attacks work, the enemy target is eliminated.Unfortunately some civilians die in those attacks as well. Some would say those people are collateral damage. But their families feel differently about it,as you'd expect.

I've include some images from Call Of Duty:Black Ops 2 because that is the point of this blog. Sometimes the government feels the need to expose the public to technology that is approaching. Some drones are actually pretty simple. Not exactly high tech spy gadgets at all. They are almost disposable to the user. The fact that video exists on YouTube and drones are being shown in video games tells me two things. First of all, that we are being conditioned to seeing drones in a non-military setting. I've read news stories that claim there will be drones, thousands of them, flying around US cities within a few years. The second thing is simply this....they do not care that we know all of this. It's coming if we want it or not. I think the ways civilians might use drones scares me more than government use[or abuse!] of them. You know that's gonna happen. People tend to use new technology to do some very evil things. The most chilling word in the video? Lethal....as in,these smaller drones can still be made to kill.  They blow up so there is no evidence of where they came from or who sent them. You really think they can pass a law to ban them? I'm not saying that game companies spread propoganda for the military. They just know what sells. I just can't imagine the American people becoming comfortable with drones hovering over us daily.

I'd have to write you an essay to really tell you how I feel about drones (I almost did when I saw this this morning, then stopped a few words in, not wanting to get started lol), so for now I'll just say that while I'm not sure I'm convinced the drone-heavy police state is nigh upon us, and I think it really is just a game scenario the developers thought was cool at this point, at the same time, given the two most recent administrations' regard for privacy, I'm not surprised that it could be happening, either.

You make a valid point there. I try not to get all paranoid about drones. But how can you not feel creeped out by them. I wonder upon this situation. If a government owned drone was hovering over your yard watching you, and you decided to shoot it down or even hit it with a rock or something......would police show up to arrest you? For damaging government property? How dare you sir!!!! I will be watching drone related laws very carefully as they come into being.

That was me above, btw. Sorry about that. Somehow got signed out in the middle of my response to you. Thanks for commenting. I did not mean to break out my soapbox here. It has just been bugging me since I learned about the tiny , bird-like drones they are working on now.

It's definitely a scary thought, and the things are cheap and easy enough to make that civilians could start using them, which is also scary.

And I'm not one to mind topics other than games being discussed, so don't worry about "getting on your soapbox," which I don't think you did.

Also, at the end I meant to say I wouldn't be surprised that it could be happening, not unsuprised, so I fixed that typo. lol
