BaD #03

I finally decided to devote a BaD blog to something about video games this time around. I could go on about the winter storm I just had but in actuality it wasn’t as bad as predicted. Sure we got about five inches of snow but the real concern was the winds .Given how light the snow was there was fear of white out conditions during the day. That didn’t come to pass so all we had to worry about was the cold and snow removal. My area considered ourselves lucky, especially upon seeing what the east coast/New England was getting. (secretly I laugh with glee given my distain for that region of the US, sorry my friends who reside there…)

But enough of “The Iceman Cometh”, let’s move on to games finally!

I actually got a good number of games between the October to January months. Most I bought either from my usual funds or from gift cards I got for the holidays. Also most of them actually turned out to be digital in nature as well. I’ll share what I’ve acquired first physically then digitally from their respective networks.  I’ll do my best not to be long winded given this is a BaD blog, I’m lucky enough to be able to read other people’s BaDs let alone respond to them. (Again I’m sorry for that.)

In October I got my usual Octoberween buys that were mentioned back during my Octoberween gaming blog. I won’t go into too detail on where and how much I got them for given how I’ve already spoken of such back during my Octoberween blog craze. But here’s a picture for posterity.

For December/January I got El Shaddai and Tomb Raider as Christmas gifts from my brothers back out east, along with a $15 Xbox Live gift card, which I used for some digital buys. I got Crackdown, Rainbow Six Vegas and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 &3 during a special “buy 4 for $5” deal my local “Gamers” was offering. The purchase of Rainbow Six Vegas and Crackdown might seem odd given how I already own those titles thanks to Microsoft’s “Games with Gold” offer. The reason for this is a simple one: hard drive space. Though I do have a 320 GB HD in my new Xbox 360 it’s now down to about 137 GB of free memory. If I want to be able to buy all the digital games offered on XBLA I’ll need to hold back on digital titles that I can get on a disc. Plus at $5 each I wouldn’t hurt.

Now on to the digital buys. These I’ll make short and sweet given I don’t really have pictures to post of them.

On XBLA

Ascend: Hand of Kul

Spartacus Legends

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes

A World of Keflings

Iron Brigade

Shoot Many Robots

Sleeping Dogs

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

(All of those were free either as Free-to-Play or Games with Gold)

Charlie Murder

Missile Command

The Bridge

State of Decay

Phantom Breaker: BG

Moon Diver

(Got the rest during XBLA sales. I actually got The Bridge thanks to a review write up by Cary)

On PSN

Warhawk

Twisted Metal

Destruction Derby

(Got those for free thanks to the “Quest for Greatness” metagame in Playstation Home)

The House of the Dead Bundle Pack

(That came with HotD 3, 4 and Overkill Extended Cut)

Costume Quest

Corpse Party

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

I Am Alive

Darkstalkers Resurrection

BloodRayne: Betrayal

Fatal Frame I-III

(Those I got during the Halloween sales on PSN, the oddest purchase of the bunch would be the Fatal Frame games given that I already own all those titles on PS2/Xbox. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to own them digitally as well if only to help preserve my physical copies.)

Marvel vs Capcom: Origins

Alien Breed Trilogy

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

Hydrophobia: Prophecy

Strikers 1945 Plus

Final Fantasy Origins

Final Fantasy III

Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection

Final Fantasy V

Final Fantasy IX

(The Final Fantasy games along with Strikers 1945 I got for Chinese New Year. I mostly wanted all the numbered FF titles that are playable on the PSP given how their original price was around $9.99 to $19.99 depending on the game. I would’ve preferred physical copies of those games but I want to get all the FF’s I can so I can play them on my PSP on the go.)

That should do it for now. Let’s see what my next “MyBuys” blog will be like after I celebrate my birthdays! *sinister grin*

I’m really starting to show some stubble now. Not sure if you can see what “color” my beard is but I’ll explain later when you can see the difference.

Wise BaD word of the day: Gamer rule #559 – There is no such thing as “too many games.”

However, there is such a thing as too many unplayed games. lol Nice haul. I still need to install Tomb Raider. This weekend, I think.

Might I point out gamer rule #560: There is no such thing as too many unplayed games. They not going anywhere, think of it as your own personal rental store. =)

Did you get to tomb raider yet?

I played the first part.

The only thing I'm worried about with unplayed games is I need to justify all my expenses. I'm pretty OCD about that with everything but food, which is always worth it in my view, but thinking about it, I want to play my unplayed games, so no money wasted. Thanks for the encouragement!

You sure do like Fatal Frame games!  Have you tried Spirit Camera on the 3DS?  It's actually a Fatal Frame game, too.

Sadly I have not. Mostly because I don't own a 3DS yet. I do want to own it eventually but not sure if it'll make me look silly owning the game without a system to play it on. I did see a 3DS kiosk trailer and indeed it looks wonderful for an Octoberween game for this year.

...hmmmm....

Just out of curiousity, what have you got against New England?

I'm the opposite, I've run out of room on my PS3, but I only have a 120 GB hard drive. Although, if the games with gold thing throws many more games I'd actually like my way, I'll run out of room on the 360 soon enough, too.

I think I'll go into more detail on why I despise Connecticitia/New England/East Coast later on during BaD. All I can say that Dave Chappelle and I can relate.

I try to think ahead when it comes to my HD now when it comes to my systems. I made sure to upgrade my PS3 to 1TB the first chance I got and I made sure to get the 320GB for my new Xbox 360. One of the hard lessons i've learned about this last gaming generation: memory goes fast, much like mine in most respects...

Well, being a life long 13th generation New Englander, your hate does seem kinda unreasonable and frankly a little hurtful. Major sweeping generalizations bother me.

I understand and coming from myself I do aplogize. I do admit that my unbriadled dislike for the region is unresonable. But with that said your thoughts mirror my own when others in the region also shared unreasonable and frankly a little hurtful thought processes toward my person and homeland. Major sweeping generalizations bother me as well yet for me it just means it's open season for all.

Hopefully I'll explain soon once I get caught up on my 400+ messages I'm behind on!

damn dude that's a lot of games!  I really need to play some of those Fatal Frame games, I hear so much about them.

NSonic79

02/25/2014 at 02:46 PM

I hope you were able to score them during their sale in Octoberween. They are one of those games you should try out if only to say you had the pleasure. I can't get enough of them myself. Hopefully it'll be in the cards for me to get Fatal Frame IV and the Fatal Frame II remake for the Wii.

I plan on buying Blood Dragon off Steam when it goes on sale despite "owning" it on PSN. All of the 80's stuff really appeals to me and it's pretty hilarious at times. Plus Micheal Biehn is the man! Cool

NSonic79

i'm the same way. I had the chance to get Blood Dragon on XBLA on the cheap but I really wanted it bad on my PSN for reasons I hope to blog about in the future.

That game won me over during the "helicopter fly-in" scene at the beginning of the game. Predator referense FTW!

Some nice loot there. Since I see that Fatal Frame is on Xbox, it could be my chance to play the games, even if sometimes i'm a wuss when it comes to Horror Games. Is the third game also on Xbox?

NSonic79

02/25/2014 at 02:49 PM

You have to give these games a try. You haven't faced true horror till you've played Fatal Frame! Sadly the third game never got an Xbox release, it's why I bought the thrid game on the PS2 which eventualy got me to buy the first two for the PS2.

Wow, that's a lot of games! I wouldn't know where to find the time to play them all.

NSonic79

02/25/2014 at 02:50 PM

I'm kinda having that issue myself. I have to admit that most of them are games I only wanted due to them being on sale and plan to play them eventually over time. The Final Fantasies are a great example. They usually go for 9.99 on PSN when most PSOne Classic titles go for 5.99. Even the imports!

Nice!  You got a lot of stuff in a few months.

NSonic79

02/25/2014 at 02:51 PM

I actually didn't realize I got that many games over the course of those months! Perhaps I should cut back, that is alot even most were bought on the cheap!

Nice grabs. I've been curious about Deadly Promonition. I've been hearing about it for awhile, but only recently got it off Steam. I haven't tried it yet unfortunately. I've started way too many games as is.

NSonic79

If you start DP, try to find the patch that fixes most of the bugs. I'm told that makes the game better to play. It's really one of those oddball games that deserves to be played for playing sake. I know I'd rather play that than "The Last of Us".

Wow, that's a lot of stuff! Not that I'm one to talk lol. I still need to download those PS1 games I got. And having all those FF games on the go would sure be nice.

NSonic79

02/25/2014 at 02:55 PM

so you were able to score your free PSOne classics off the "Quest for greatness"? If so great, be prepared for another free offering later mid-march.

I would've prefered to get the FF on GBA but given I don't own a GBA (besides the micro) but since I have a PSP I thought having the FF on there digitally would work out better. Moreso with my quest for 32GB for my system.
