I'm not well-versed in Call of Duty, or FPSs in general, but having more time for game development is probably for the best.

I have been working a fair amount of overtime at the moment, which means that my brain function is shot by this point in the day. I would still like to pump out a blog a day, so I am being a little lazy today especially since I just heard that Call of Duty is shifting to a three year development cycle.
This is big news because we will not be getting another Black Ops game this year. In fact who knows what game we will get this year. All I know is that it is being developed by Sledgehammer. I think that they have worked on some of the past Call of Duty games and probably some of the map packs.
There is one other hopeful thought that I am pulling out of this news. This extra year may give Treyarch the opportunity to get a new engine for Call of Duty. As people might be aware, CoD Ghosts still runs on the same engine that Modern Warfare ran on.
I don't think that this change will fix the problem of franchise fatigue, but there are plenty of good things that could come from an extended development time. Call of Duty isn't really my cup of tea... make that coffee. I haven't drank tea in a while. It may not be my cup of tea, but I appreciate that Activision may be trying again. They knew that eventually they would fall, but this may reinvigorate the franchise... only time will tell.
