With Sega's announcement of Sonic Boom. (Sonic boom...sonic booom....SONIC  BOOOOOOOOOM!!! SAVE THE PLANET FROM DISASTER!) *AHEM* sorry  about that...I actually wanted to talk about how I actually don't mind modern Sonic games. Don't get me wrong. I love, absolutely love the classic Sonic 1-3 for Genesis and Sonic Cd (from which Sonic Boom song comes from) was the example of a great game on a bad add on.

But many fans of Sonic hate...the modern direction Sonic took. And for many it I guess it ended with Sonic Adventure. I liked Sonic Adventure (Save for a few segments) It was a dreamcast game that I played the crap out of. The overworld, the missions, the mystic ruins, alll of it was just a wonderful experience. Heck I didn't even mind Big the Cat fishing segments...as unneccessary as they were.

Then came Sonic Adventure 2. It took out some fluff, but added some expanded things. Remember how large some of the emerald search portions were? Yeah that was a bit of a pain in the ass. And then we have Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog etc. I can sit and dissect every single one, but honestly that would be too long.

Aside from 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog (Which everyone finds to be a bug riddled, glitch filled, stomach vomit story induced game) I actually don't mind the gimmicks that Sonic has had. Mario has gimmicks to stay relevant...Why not Sonic? And I know it always comes down to the old argument (But Sonic has to go fast!!!) But ya know what...I don't mind.

Sonic & the Secret Rings added rpg elements and a unique take....I enjoyed it. Black Knight added a sword...I enjoyed it. Werehog...YOU GUESSED IT! I enjoyed it. Sonic has gone away from his roots...and ya know what....it's a good thing. I'm all for going fast and loop de loops. (Generations being my favorite modern Sonic)  But I enjoy the chances that Sega takes with Sonic.

Colors brought back power ups. And while they weren't flame shields or bubble shields...I'd be hard pressed to say that laser or drill were bad power ups. So with Sonic Lost World & Boom being brought to Wii U....I gotta buy it. I don't care about reviews...I don't care about complaints....I care about whether or not I will have fun...and ya know what....I have fun with Sonic.

Because deep down we all like Sonic. He's changing, but I believe it deep down he's still the same blue blur we've grown up with. He's the real article. You still get speed. You still get Robotnik foolishly trying to rule the world or some hairbrained scheme that will never work, and you'll still have Sonic's furry buddies (Tails, Knuckles, Amy, etc.)

I love nostalgia. I'm a Nintendo guy. I stick with them whole heartedly...but things change. Even I have another system in the PS3. Sticking with just one system is crazy. So embrace the change. Enjoy the fact that somehow Knuckles grew freakishly huge arms in the Sonic Boom trailer (Seriously did you notice that!? WHAT STEROIDS DID HE TAKE!?) Enjoy the series direction of gimmicks and enjoy modern Sonic...because really...it could be wrose...it could be Sonic 06 again...*Shudders*

Love this blog.

I haven't played Generations and Lost World, but I do own Colors and I love it. Favorite 3D Sonic games and one of my favorite Wii games. That said, I came back last year to try Sonic Heroes, and it didn't age well at all and I can't really agree with Sonic & The Secret Rings. I tried, but I couldn't enjoy everything there, and it close to what might be my least favorite game.

If you want to know my thoughts on modern Sonic, you should check my latest blog about it.

Well Sonic is great. I would expect as much from someonewho has Knuckles as an avatar lol. I agree with Secrete Rings. There was good and bad (The mini games were horrendous lol)

I never was big enough into Sonic to keep up after Sonic & Knuckles but nothing about the newer games looked especially awful to me. Then again,my standards are pretty lax and chilled. lol.

I really need to play Secret Rings.  Seems like such a bizarre game.

It's not really so bizaare as Black Knight was, but it did have quite a few interesting mechanics. I remember you had various missions like the standard race for the goal to find 5 dinosaur eggs....or don't break any pots.

On Sonic Booms Knuckles, I like to think he worked out alot, or he ate the Master Emerald lol Kidding on the last one. I do like Sonic games, both old and new ones. Sonic CD is my favorite 2D Sonic game because of the gameplay and the awesome music. Love the theme, I have it on my 3DS. On modern, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is my favorite 3D Sonic. If that one didn't exist, Colors would be there. I do like Unleashed because thats the fastest Sonic has ever ran, and the levels were great.

I'll tell you that I liked Shadow the Hedgehog despite the hate it gets. I know people hate on the guy now, because of the gimmicks, Generations had no gimmicks but it still didn't sell alot. That was a multiplatform game, yet Colors, as an exclusive sold way more. My brother enjoyed Lost World, I'm playing it right now too and like it so far. Sure he's slower but that game is really platform heavy and making him faster wouldn't work.

The new game looks good, my brother loves how it looks like, it looks like Sonic Heroes, but better. Not sure if people will want to get it, but you know people have a love-hate relationship with Sonic. Who knows.

You know I'm with you. Shadow get a lot more hate than it should. I get that it went a little darker for a Sonic games with guns and swearing, but I actually thought it was a unique take. And the shooting mechanics weren't bad by any means.

I'm not a big Sonic fan, but I don't mind modern Sonic either.  There are a few Sonic games I do like, and one of them is the original Sonic Adventure.

Yeah I think a lot of people have some love for the old Sonic Adventure. It was the first 3D Sonic game (No I don't count Sonic 3D)

I liked the Sonic/Shadow portions in adventure 2 and the Tails/Robotnik shooting parts were decent, but ffffffuck the emerald hunts.

And I definitely noticed Knuckles's Popeye arms. I'm with you, these games are just quick and fun.

Yeah the emerald hunts I think were just too ambitious. I mean there would be times in Pumpkin Hill Zone or in Space where I'd fly around going where the heck is that darn emerald!
