I think that I am craving an RPG.  The only problem is that I am not quite sure which one to dive into.  The reason that I think that I am getting this craving is because I am doing my best not to download Bravely Default right now.  There are other signs, like downloading FF IX just because Snee was talking about it.  I even picked up Rune Factory 4 on a whim.  I used to buy games on a whim constantly, but I have been doing better recently.  In fact, the only unplanned purchases have been the amazing PSN sales.

I have not played the demo, but I am still really wanting to Bravely Default.  I don't know why.  I already have nearly a dozen RPGs on my Vita and all of my 3DS games outside of Resident Evil Revelations, are RPGs.  I am swimming in RPGs, but I haven't played any of them.  I don't know where I should start.

Here is a small list of the RPGs that I own and still need to play.  Tales of the Abyss, Etrian Odyssey Untold, Rune Factory 4, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and SMT IV on the 3DS.  I have Ys: Seven, Ys:  The Oath in Felghana, Growlanser:  Wafarer of Time, The Legend of Heroes, Persona 3, Persona 4, Wild Arms, Breath of Fire IV, FF VI, and FF IX on my Vita.

So I ask, where do I begin?

Well, I'm a Tales junkie, so I say go with Tales of the Abyss. But Wild Arms is a lot of fun, too.

This suggestion may be "left field" but "Godeater Burst" is a game akin to Monster Hunter with a great story, many missions, and lots of customization. It was originally on the psp but I imagine it has a digital version for the vita too.

Additionally there's Star Ocean 2nd evolution,Jean D'Arc, and even Final Fantasy Duodecom if you want an epic fighting game with FF characters that also packs in a lot of rpg mechanics.

I've been sloooowly playing Godeater and it's very good. The AI partners are surprisingly competent.

I will think about God Eater Burst.  I vaguely remember hearing about a Vita sequel, I may pick that one up if there is one actually coming.

As far as the other games are concerned...  I have tried all of them, but had difficulty getting into them.

Lots of good ones there.  I like FF9, Rune Factory 4, Ys Seven, and FF4.  I'll be getting my Bravely Default Collector's Edition this weekend, too.

I vote Rune Factory 4, especially since you just got it. I hope to get that at some point.

I watched my newest neice with my wife tonight and brought Rune Factory 4 with me and put an hour or so into it.  A little slower start than I was hoping for.

No idea, but I may try to play Golden Sun I guess if I don't trade it in.

I don't think that I really played many RPGs before I played Golden Sun.

I don't really tend to like JRPGs in general, but hey, I own GS.

I think that it was far more accessible than the other RPGs that I have played until that point.

In my case, it was the least, with the others I played having been Pokemon and Paper Mario (along with watching my friend play Mario RPG, renting FFX once cause it looked pretty and renting Earthbound then crying about not being able to go far at all ... ok, maybe Earthbound was least accessible).

The Persona and Ys games are great.

So I hear from... everyone.  Which is why I did pick them up.  At this point I am a little scared of the Persona series.

I feel your struggle. This is the toughest part of picking my next game to play but rather my next RPG. It is a big decision since you are about to devote a lot of time to that one game, quest, characters, world. If you figure out a way to choose one easily let me know.

Persona 3 I recommend to start.

Well, Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite FF game, and second favorite RPG of all time. So I'm gonna be the odd man out and recommend that one. The playstation port of that game sucks though. Loading times are really bad.

not to ask a potentially stupid question, but what is the first favourite RPG?

Chrono Trigger. I paid a lot of money for the SNES cart. It's worth every penny though. I know I could have got the DS version for much cheaper... but, I'd rather play it on my nice TV than that tiny DS screen.

I don't know what my absolute favourite RPG of all time would be, but I do know that Chrono Trigger is way up there.  I didn't even have to play past the Future to know that it wa super special.

I guess that's the upside of being strapped for cash, it's a little difficult to build up a serious backlog.

I'd say go for Persona 4 or Etrian Odyssey Untold.

I've been using the Fortune Cookie randomizer on backloggery. It's fun.

Y's.

and I only say that because I'm tempted to buy the first and second books off the Wii's Virtual Console.
