Apoligies for the late entry. I didn't work last night, so I stayed home. Now on with the GLaD!

The Super Nintendo. Nintendo's answer to the Genesis. At a time where Sega was taking a portion of profits out of their bottom line, they decided to do something about it. They knew that the NES was being outclassed by the more powerful system, and that the time had come to make a successor that could handle more powerful games.

The system came out in 1990, and came prepackaged with another blockbuster game, Super Mario World. You could tell that the Mario team really put their hearts into this one. Everything was bigger, better, and graphically superior to anything else at the time. Thanks to it, the system became just the hit that they needed to keep the crown. I still remember the "console wars" at the time, which were reflected in the most influential media at the time, print magazines. The term "fanboy" became used for the first time to describe someone who preferred one system over another and who usually trashed anyone who didn't feel the same. I always thought that it was pretty stupid myself.

I had a hard time convincing my mom to buy one. She didn't understand why I needed another one. But I get it. Being low income and poor, something like that isn't something you can really afford. I eventually got one when I was a teenager. I still remember playing SMW to death. I had save files with everything completed, fastest completion to Bowser, and a normal game with nothing but secret exits to end game. My favorite Game Genie code was the one where you have a moon jump.

Other games that really influenced me were Breath of Fire, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country 2, Final Fantasy III, Kirby Super Star, Lufia 2, Mega Man X, Pocky & Rocky, Secret of Mana, Super Mario Kart, Yoshi's Island and Zelda 3. I can go on and on about how amazing all those games were, but the point is that some of those are the best games of all time. Many of them saw rereleases on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, and rightfully so, because today they are classics.

Sadly, I don't have my collection of games anymore. I think I had like 50 of them, enough to fill a sock drawer. I stupidly gave them away in the divorce, along with my system and cords. I did it because despite all the stuff she did, I wanted to part on good terms. And I wanted to get rid of most of the stuff from my youth and start over. She asked, and I said alright, which was a mistake I see now. I found out later that she sold the whole collection for $600. All I could think of was, "What a bitch."

I still have a few, though. The Mega Man X games, which were my favorites. I also bought Mario All-Stars + World, and some repro games on ebay. I also found a SNES mini. I don't really care to collect it all again, though. It's in the past. If I want to play something, there's always emulation.

Wow, amazing and sad story all in one. The SNES is the best system of all time. It has more of the "best games of all time" than any other system. Definitely outclassed Sega and the Genesis (which was a vailant effort for sure). It's my favorite system, and I will never part with it (well, maybe over my dead body).

There was a guy who was recently burried with his Harley. I guess he took it with him. lol

Well, despite how blasphemous / idiotic this may sound, I prefer the NES over SNES. SNES is my second favorite console ever though. I am sorry for your loss. I parted ways with my NES and SNES games a long time ago, but have since gained back most of them. That'll never happen again. I'll be like that dude with his Harley lol.

It's all good. It was really disheartening to hear that she sold it, though, because I know now that the games had a lot of sentimental value. Best to move on, though.

That bitch.

But hey, it was released when I was born and I loved playing it too, so I'm all for calling SNES the best console ever.

Heh. And she was the one who begged me to let her have it. She was really excited, too. Anyway, for me it's a toss up between the SNES and original Playstation as best console. It really was the golden age of gaming.

I am too tired to read that first sentence and understand the proper context well enough for my mind not to go right in the gutter haha. And both the SNES and Playstation were and are my older brother's, but I'd lean way more heavily towards SNES as I really enjoyed my N64 and some games I played on Playstation at the time weren't the greatest.

I'd argue it's almost a tie between PS2 and SNES, actually, but it's all subjective.

The SNES is my most favorite console of all time.

Yeah, my family had the same low income situation growing up in the 90's, so the Super NES and Sega Genesis didn't officially get into our home until sometime between 1995 and 1996.  The was mine and the SNES was my odler brother's.  But maaaan did we have some good times playing together on his SNES!

Of course, we played the heck out of Super Mario World, Mario Kart, and Super Mario All-Stars.  Other highlights of  my brother's SNES purchases included NBA Live '96 (very easy to play), Donkey Kong Country, Raiden, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, X2, and X3, Super R-Type, Gradius III, Side Pocket, Super Baseball 2020, and Tetris Attack.

Sure, my Genesis got plenty of love from me, but the Super NES was the "2-player" system where I spent so much time and building fun memories with my brother.  I always get the warm and fuzzies when I think about it.

Sadly, I was an only child, so I didn't have anyone to play with. Although, I do havesome great 2 player experiences with Soul Calibur II and Halo.

I got rid of my Genesis and SNES a while back because I figured I could play all the games on Virtual Console or the many Genesis collections out there. I kinda regret it now. There's nothing like playing a game on the original hardware.

True. That's why I bought a SNES Mini awhile back. I'm really hoping to find a top loading NES one of these days.

That's the one I have.
