This is just going to be a short blog today. I have talked with many people and observed how a lot of people treat their favorite games. They usually have played through it a million times, mastering mechanics and memorizing details of plot, gameplay, everything. Now I don't know how you guys do it but I am a much different kind of beast.

I have my favorite titles. I have a hard time deciding a top ten and stuff, that stresses me out. They are my favorites because of the meaning of the game at that moment in my life. What the story, characters or even just the game helped me get through. I will pick up my favorite games probably a couple times every year and play them. Just to enjoy them. I don't know the last time I have completed them. There are the few titles that I will sit down and complete them but usually I will just play those games and enjoy them. I do not know where all the secrets are. I don't know the mechanics instinctively. I just enjoy my favorite games.

When it comes to memorizing and perfecting mechanics, those games are the competitive titles. The Call of Duty, Super Smash, Mario Kart, etc. the games that I play with my team and close friends that I have to own because I am super competitive. I like that my favorite games still hold secrets for me to discover if I ever embark on their journey again. I try to at least play through one of my top ten games every year. But I like the discovering and mastering new games and challenges that take away the time to come back to my top games.

That is all I wanted to say for today. If you guys have an opinion please share. I'd like to think I am not the only one that thinks this way but it is a good possibility. Thanks again everyone who reads. Happy Gaming.

You have the same appraoch to games I do to movies, only my favorite games are just the ones either that gave me my most memorable Christmas gift (Star Fox 64) or were just the most fun to pick up and play (EBA).

Honestly, I don't even know if those are my favorite games, I just have good memories of them. I don't know if I have a favorite game like some people on here do, where it changed my perception on something. I've pretty much just always liked pick-up-and-go games or deep adventures, but they were just fun, nothing mind-blowing. Maybe some day.

I have trouble narrowing my favorite games down to a list because are they really my favorite or are they just tied to a memory. Either way I don't think it really matters. As long as I am having a good time.

I tend to leave my favourite games as the memory they currently are and rarely replay. Like you mention, I came across a lot of the games I really enjoyed over the years at just the right moment in my life. I will always love Final Fantasy VIII for example as it came in a time where I could relate (well as much as anyone could relate to Final Fantasy). I would rather not replay a lot of games for fear of ruining the memory.

I think I am similar. They are so dear to me for helping me through that period that if I play it again, it'll ruin the magic of the game and the effect it had on me.

There are some games that I can play over and over endlessly. I must have beat Doom at least 1000 times lol. There was a time in my life when I was obsessed with Unreal Tournament 2k3 and played it for like 6 years. Diablo helped me a lot when I was struggling with my depression. Which is funny since that game is so dark and depressing. I know what you mean though. My backlog is insane. So nowadays I'm mostly just trying to whittle it down.

Damn the backlog, that's how it is for me. I just try to beat and rinse, beat and rinse. I have those couple games I can go back to and play them and nothing has changed and they are as magnificent as they were when I first played them. I think mine are Pokemon and Diablo 2. I play alot of pokemon and diablo.

I don't regularly replay certain games like I keep hearing people do. There's always too many new games I want to play. But sometimes the retro bug hits me and I do it. There's a lot of classic FPS games I know inside and out because I played them in co-op or deathmatch with friends over and over. Not too many single player games though.

Yea there is just way too much out there that interests me to go back and play titles I loved. Competitively I will play games again with friends but I agree there are many single player games that I go though just once even my favorites.
