Hey BaD folks! Happy Tuesday, and currently it’s 80 degrees in Sunny SoCal, and I am currently having lunch while I type up my next installment of WOMiP. Today I thought I would share what audiobooks and podcasts I have on my iPod. I do love to listen to music as go about my day but there are times when I like to listen to people talk and enjoy a new book, so for today it’s the other audio files on my iPod

PODCASTS

I love podcasts because they are radio shows that don’t have the commercials (sometimes) and cover topics that I am interested in.

The Tony Kornheiser Show

I’ve been listening to Mr. Tony for a couple of years now, I do like his non-sports sports show. Mr. Tony does cover local Washington sports, has sports writers come and talk about what’s going on in sports, but it’s mainly two hours of what’s going on with Mr. Tony and his friends as they cover topics that are in the news. Of my favorite bits is when Nigel plays random oldies music, and Tony gives the name of the artists and songs and towards the end of the show he has a segment called “Old Guy Radio” where he discusses a given artist or song.

The one thing that does get on my nerves is David Alrdridge’s laugh and fake anger towards the Redskins, and Wilbon’s sports views (I used to like Wilbon but he’s starting to get annoying to me).

Adam Carolla Podcast

Ace Man, and his gang on his Pirate Ship put on an hour long show where they have in studio guest where they have an interview, crack wise, and news girl Alison brings up news stories to discuss. Of course since it’s Adam Carolla, there’s going to be skits, talk about Jimmy Kimmel, being Atheist, and other usuals. It’s a fun show and very un PC.

Ace On The House

Adam and his friend Ray have a home improvement podcast where callers send in video and pictures and ask what they can do to fix up their homes. Adam always picks on Ray, the callers tend to pick on Ray, and in between all that, give out some good advice. Again very non PC

Adam and Dr. Drew Show

Remember Loveline? This is basically that show in an hour format.

Alison Is Your New Best Friend

News Girl Alison Rosen takes her webpage show into a podcast. It is released on Tuesday and Thursday, with Tuesday being a guest interview, and Thursday being her and a group talk about what’s on their minds. I listen to the Thursday episodes only because it’s is fun to listen to what goes on in the lives of some of the people behind Ace Broadcasting.

Jay Mohr Show

I listen to one or two episodes of the his daily show because it’s three hours long (usually the Monday and Friday episodes). Jay does cover sports but in a comedic way with a lot of audio drops. Think of Jim Rome but really funny.

The Right Reasons

Juliet and Jacoby discuss their thoughts about the Reality Shows they watched. They are my favorite podcast during the MTV Challenge season and Celebrity Apprentice seasons. Other than that I listen but I really don’t pay attention.

Girls In Hoodies

This is another Grantland Podcast where four women discuss music, TV shows, and other topics. It’s hit and miss, and sometimes if the topic isn’t interesting, I just skip it.

Cheap Ass Gamer

This is my only video game podcast. Each week Cheapy D, Wombat, and Shipwreck discuss new releases, current gaming news, what they are playing, and other randoms. I started using their website back in 2004 when people would post various sales, and coupons to help out other video game players. It was a nice community then, now not so much, where a lot of the folks there seem to take this hobby way too seriously. I still love the podcast and I only check out the site once or twice a week, and whenever I need to update my music/games/dvd pickups (there’s a tradition of having a thread where everyone would try to keep track of their purchases and try to see if they can spend less the next year)

Audiobooks

Audiobooks are a nice change of pace, especially if you want to check out something new or revisit some old favorites. Currently on my iPod I have three books.

Adam Carolla – In Fifty Years We’ll All Be Chicks

This is a book where he rants about why being Politically Correct sucks, things that bother him, and random stories. His audiobook is different from the print version and I’ve read both a couple of times because it’s funny. The end of the print book has his bucket list like “Jump into water with a knife in his mouth” and “walk away from an explosion without turning back”

Adam Carolla – Not Taco Bell Material

This is another of his books that I read which is also funny, but it’s more about how he grew up, and what he had to do to get to this point. Love him or hate him, he busted his ass to get where he is.

George R.R. Martin – A Clash Of Kings

I only added the first 21 chapters of the book to my iPod because unlike the two Adam Carolla books that one file, I easily get the audio files confused. For you folks that love the HBO Series, this is Season 2. I think I am currently on Chapter 7.

Well Pixlbit that is what I’m currently listening to. Any other podcasts or books I should check out? Let me know.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I'm most interested in those two Carolla books, the Adam/Drew show, and I haven't heard about Jay Mohr in forever.

If you like Adam Carolla, you'd like those two books. I added them to the iPod because he's coming out with a new book I think in a couple of months.

I think the last time I saw Jay Mohr on TV was in a Las Vegas re play on TNT a couple of years ago.

Yeah there are quite a bit of podcasts, but I like how they break up my listening rotation on the iPod.

Oh man, didn't realize there was an Adam Corolla/Dr. Drew podcast! I used to listen to Loveline religiously, so this is awesome news. Listening to the latest episode right now and will subscribe. Thank you sir!

If they still have them up, go and download the early stuff where they talk 70s music. Those episodes are hilarious.

I don't listen to podcasts all that often, only when I have the time to. Which I never seem to have enough of.

I know what you mean about the time. Sometimes I mix in a podcast while playing certain video games that are dialogue heavy.

Most of my podcasts are gaming related but I recently readded Filmspotting and Sound Opinions, both are excellent. I also listen to the NY TImes Book Review pod, MoneyGirl, and GrammarGirl every week. Those are short ones.

I might give those a listen. I used to listen to Grammar Girl, she's really good.
