An oldie but goodie

A Temple of Chaos

From: Final Fantasy

Remixed by: Kaijin

This is an old OCR remix and is quite short, but it's good while it lasts. It's a somber electric guitar-led orchestral-ish piece. Just give me two minutes. GO!

Final Fantasy. It's even on the title of the blog and at the begining it's stated.

It's from the original Final Fantasy.

Very short, but still sweet.

This sounds like it could be the music for a vocal 90s pop song about a break up. I like it.

Is this from the opera scene in FF?

Um, good? Lol. It's from the original Final Fantasy, which didn't have any opera scenes Tongue Out

I never played any FF games, I just know that scene exists because people bring it up all the time. Tongue Out

The famous Opera Scene is from FF VI, which is, you know, the best Final Fantasy ever. You should totally play that one.

Aside from dabbling in Pokemon and Paper Mario a bit more than usual JRPGs; as well as watching my friend play Super Mario RPG, renting Final Fantasy X and Earthbound once each, and owning and having gotten maybe a bit less than halfway through Golden Sun; I don't really ;like JRPG games all that much.

Even those titles I mention have never been my favorites, because turn-based combat and random encounters just aren't my thing. The Mario and Pokemon games dumbed down or added elements to combat to make it more bearable for me, but I still prefer action games. I hated Earthbound as a kid. I just wanted to play FFX for the cutscenes. The Sphere thing seemed like a confusing chore, and I remembered that while not horrible, I still didn't like turn-based combat. In Golden Sun's case, I was young enough to think EGM's perfect scores meant perfect for everyone, and I think I played it to justify asking for it as a Christmas present, though I probably should have traded it in.

So I ask you, what will FFVI do for someone like me? I do like the graphics and story involved in JRPGs, but gameplay is a bit more of a factor, obviously.

Hmm, well, that doesn't bode well then. The turn-based combat in FFVI isn't going to change your mind about things. The story tackles more mature themes than many games of its ilk—even other Final Fantasies—and the characters are great, though I can't say if that would justify the whole package for you. The music, of course, is just wonderful.

If you're interested, I'd say check out the new release of FFVI for iOS. There are a few things that old time fans will gripe about, but it's a pretty good port (more of an expanded rerelease, really) and it makes some concessions to modern game design, like quick saves, the ability to speed up battles, and a hint system to help you get to the next important spot. Check out this review for more specifics. I think FFVI is a game anyone can appreciate if they really invest themselves and if you're going to play only one JRPG, that's what it should be. Well, and maybe Chrono Trigger Wink

Gotcha. There is of course, always the option to watch Let's Plays, but I've recently thought about revisiting JRPGs to see if my tastes have changed as I get older, but with Masters courses, I just don't have time right now. I'll keep FFVI in mind when I have more time.

Classic. It's remixes like these that make me wish square enix would allow their remakes to have these kinds of tunes play in them.

Glad you liked it! We all miss Square Enix would do many things lol. I've been pretty delinquent lately about these OCR Spotlights. Need to get back to doing them...
