Well it’s Thursday and the final day of WOMiP. It has been fun sharing another hobby with you good folks on Pixlbit, and for today I thought I would share my Top 10 songs I listened to for 2013. I bought my laptop at the end of 2012 and spent the next couple of months moving over all my CDs to my new iTunes account. I still have my deactivated one on my old laptop, which I need to erase and just keep the mixtapes and other random audio files, but I will leave that to a lazy rainy Sunday. For a bit of an explanation on my Top 10 list, I tend to go through phases with singles where I will listen to one song maybe 4-5 times in a row, and then move on, or while listening to an album I’ll get stuck on that song, listen to it a couple of times, and then move on to the next track. Anyways let’s jump right into Chris’ Top 10 Singles for 2013!

Here is a screen shot of my Top 200 Playlist. I actually included 20 songs here. Some of these songs in the Top 20 I’m a little shocked by because they used to be in the Top 10 but I haven’t played them in a while. In case you’re wondering I use the smart playlist feature on iTunes where the song has to be rated higher than 3 stars, can’t be a holiday, podcast, video, or audiobook file, and it is arranged by play count. It always updates whenever I sync any iDevice to it (all of them have this playlist).

Michael Giacchino – Star Trek Main Theme

I LOVE this version of the main theme. Just listening to the arrangement it sounds like it would be so much fun to play. Starts off with a fun buildup of all the parts and then drops and then with the build up. I tend to have this track on repeat for “binge” listening and sometimes do the imaginary conductor role with my pretend baton waving my arms around. Talk about former band nerd moment. Oh I forgot my favorite part, towards the end of the song the nod to the previous Star Trek themes. Awesome stuff!

Paramore – Still Into You

At first I was a little hesitant about this album but eventually I loved how it took a different twist on their sound. The funny thing is this isn’t even my favorite song from the album, but after watching their performance on the iTunes Music Festival where they ended with this song, there was so much energy that I had it on repeat the next couple of days and boom, into the 2nd spot.

Ramin Djawadi – Main Title (Game of Thrones Theme)

I am a sucker for these big orchestral themes. I bought this single while I was catching up with the series during the summer. What I enjoy is that the theme is so big through the majority of it to just to end with a soft couple of notes. There is a lot of pretend conducting going on with this song as well.

Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe

It’s a fun catchy summer pop song. I told one of my friends it’s the new Party In The USA, and I think I bought the digital version, CD Single, and then the album. The album isn’t that bad.

Don Omar – Danza Kuduro

Oh if you have ever seen Fast 5 (and if you have been reading my ramblings you know how much I enjoyed the Fast and Furious Franchise) this is the main song at the end of famed safe dragging scene. I have no idea what they are saying but how awesome is this video. It’s in the style of 90s Puff Daddy videos.

The Eagles – Take It To The Limit

I got caught up in the Eagles documentary that Showtime was pushing every day on one of their many channels. I do enjoy the harmony’s in this song.

Paramore – Ain’t It Fun

This is my favorite song from Paramore’s self-titled album. It has a fun 80s vibe, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. There are some really good fan versions on Youtube which are worth checking out.

Lady Antebellum – Downtown

I bought this single without listening to it, purely based on how much I enjoyed Lady A’s previous album. Turns out it wasn’t a bad song. It’s another fun summer song and it was the soundtrack to a couple of thrift store adventures. I do like the awesome acting in the beginning of the video.

Trinidad James – All Gold Everything

This should have also been included in the shame list blog as well because the song is so terrible, yet it got stuck in my head especially the “Pop the molly I’m sweatin’ WOOO” lyric. There really isn’t any substance to it, but I like it.

Muse – Uprising

This song is in my Top 10 list because I tend to listen to a lot of this during college basketball season because the Student Section at SDSU adopted the chorus as one of their chants. The band plays the song, and the students sing.

This isn’t my video but I did go watch this game against UCLA (they refuse to play us) and this was heard a couple of times during the game. The funny thing was on the opposite side of the Arena it was supposed to be UCLA fans and pep band. Their fans didn’t show up, so our fans took over that section as well.

Well Pixlbit there you go, my Top 10 most played songs on my iPod. I’m sure a couple of the SDSU songs on my list will rise into the Top 10 for a bit especially since it’s getting close to March.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Muse Uprising is great, and by far the least embarrassing non-orchestral song on this list. lol

I love the Giacchino Star Trek theme too, though.

I like the Paramore songs as well, they're catchy, and the video with the Guinness records is cool.

I like GoT's theme as well, might rent those from Hastings like my friend Wes and his gf did,.

I'll admit liking that Call Me Maybe song as well, though I haven't heard it since 2012. I also like Party in the U.S.A. ... we can be embarrassing song buddies. lol

Not that big on Don Omar. I see him in the video, but where is that Spanish robot that's doing all the vocals?

We have a lot of Eagles at KSAU, but not that song it seems. My favorite by them is One of these Nights. I recall Adam Carolla really hating them. They're the only ones I remember having more albums sold for their Best Of than Michael Jackson's Thriller at at least one point in time, making that album #1 of all time.

I don't mind Lady Antebellum, but not my favorite.

That "All Gold Everything" is everything Lorde and myself hate about modern rap songs, but at least you admit it. lol

Oh you have to watch Game of Thrones. I didn't believe the hype, but I'm enjoying the storyline.

Team Embarassing Buddies!

Yeah Adam HATES the Eagles. If you listen to Tony Kornheiser he isn't a fan and always says that Eagles, Boston, and Kansas are the same band.

All Gold is so bad...yet I still listen to it. I told my friend that it should have been the official song for the Olympics.

I think I may have myself a super TV weekend, as my professor gave me 2.32 gigs of ads to code, House of Cards releases tomorrow, and maybe I'll pile on some GoT rental goodness cause I can.

Kornheiser can go Kornheise himself, I love bands named after states. Well, I love their singles, anyway. lol Maybe not "Dust in the Wind," but "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "More Than A Feeling" are great.

I am so glad you don't decide what the theme is for the Olympics ... lol.

Game of Thrones!

Kornheiser is odd that way, I like to blame it on him being old, and even he blames it on that too. Dust In The Wind reminds me of Old School. You're my Boy Blue!

Haha I think America would agree with you.

If I took the time to list my top-played songs, it'd mostly consist of stuff from The Protomen, Queens of the Stone Age, Arcade Fire and MGMT.

That sounds like a solid list of artists for your top played!

I apologize for posting a comment that's totally unrelated to your blog, but I thought you might like to see my review of the LEGO Movie video game.

Dang it Cary you should have mentioned Everything is Awesome to make it related Tongue Out. It's all good man, I appreciate you letting me know about your review.

Before I click over and read it, did you like it more than Lego Marvel? (I know I'll probably find out once I click but I just have to know)
