Love is in the air! Can you feel it!? Can you feel the love tonight!? I bet you you can! Cause if there is one holiday I can't wait for it's Valentine's Day! And omg...that's today!!!!

By the way that entire segment right there...completely satirical. I get the point of Valentine's Day...I do. You and a significant other share an intimate, albeit expensive day together and embrace to romance of candle light dinners or fancy restaurants, or flower petals leading to the bedroom.

Now I didn't care either way for Valentine's Day when I was a wee young biy. I don't think most do...Unless you're in one of those elementary romances that last a week or something, but mostly it was an excuse to eat chocolate and candy. Now once I got older and started dating I came to realize just how much of a pain Valentine's Day is. Like I said I wasn't always a cynic and then I got into a relationship...and then another relationship, wash, rinse, repeat.

I thought I knew what love is. But then I quickly realized what is love (Oh baby don't hurt me...don't hurt me...no more) excuse me for that....ahem* I mean Valentine's Day has become a consumerist experience....much like other holidays. It comes down to how much money are you willing to spend on the one you love in a day. Some people get engaged today...some people eat fancy....some have dinner at McDonald's (Yes I've seen it happen)

I'vecome to the realization that maybe love isn't for me...or maybe I've just grown distant. I've been single for a year now and it's been a bit surprising to say the least...no feminine products taking up my bathroom. No women's clothing or shoes taking over my closet, and I find myself inventing new ways to use the bare minimum of what I buy groceries, because I don't have to cook. And my house....well lets just say that I dust when I feel like it...and vaccuming is an afterthought.

Now my house isn't all "I'm a sloppy, lazy male" type home with crap everywhere. I do keep everything neat and organized or otherwise I might lose something. (I have horrible short term memory) But perhaps I could give some props to Valentine's Day. Maybe one day I'll encounter the special someone like in TV or movies...then again there is always Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind telling me that Valentine's Day is a day invented by greeting card companies to make you feel like crap....so take with it what you will.

i hear ya man.  I haven't been in a relationship for a while and I'm fine with that.  Eventually I'll get back on the horse, but right now I have other concerns.  Smile

Yeah other priorities always take precedent, but I believe I'll get back out there too.

Love Eternal Sunshine. One day, I'll depress myself by watching that and then playing Eternal Darkness, like that one time I followed reading A Clockwork Orange with watching Full Metal Jacket. Granted, I read/prefer the 21 chapter ACO, so it wasn't that bad.

As for Valentine's, I have never had to worry about it, as none of my relationships have fallen on that day. Having been an Outback Steakhouse Take Away server on that holiday, though ... fuck that. That is literally the one time a customer at my work yelled at her husband that she didn't know where the remote was, and she would burn the place down if she didn't get her salad. ... which in retrospect, that phone call is kinda funny.

I really enjoyed Eternal Sunshine. It blends comedy and romance with melancholy. And it does have a unique take that I think portrays love and loss and quite possibly they'll fall out of love again. I wouldn't have wanted to work on Valentine's Day at a restaurant...I know sometimes it can be bad.

"Bad" doesn't begin to cover it. lol

I agree about Eternal Sunshine. I do sometimes wonder if I'd like certain people erased from my memory ...

Yeah, I don't care about love either, or so far, I don't want to get involved. That said, I don't mind getting married and have family. I just take my time.

You know right now I have the same sentiment, but on another I would like to get married and raise a family too. That's odd lol.
