Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

 Dwight

I know it’s a made up holiday but when you really think about it, aren’t they all? Anyway I’ve chosen to be excited for it seeing as season 2 of House of Cards is released on Netflix today. I’ve fun plans tonight involving the wife, myself, Chinese food, candy, wine and Kevin Spacey. What a riot!

I’m feeling a little better today with this cold of mine. The combination of Dayquil, Halls, Alka-Seltzer Cold & Nyquil is doing the trick. Quite a cacophony of over the counter medicines but there you have it.

I decided on a little change of pace last night and dove into Spelunky on the vita. One word to describe my progress: sucky. My feelings are a mixed bag when it comes to Spelunky. On one hand, it’s fun trying to navigate around the levels avoiding absolutely everything that moves but on the other hand it can be extremely frustrating. I played for about an hour last night and died about eight to ten times. That averages six to seven and a half minutes per playthrough. Bad. I didn’t even get past the first set of levels (mines). Come to think of it, I think I’ve only got past the mines once in the three hours or so I’ve put into the game. There are so many varied enemy types, attacking you in so many varied ways that in a lot of instances it feels like pure luck to have a chance at progressing at all. For example, at one stage last night, I carefully dropped down a floor after checking my surroundings only to be killed by an arrow that came from off-screen. I mean come on. There’s nothing I can really do to avoid that situation which is unfair but the game rejoices in putting the player through these situations. I’ve come to the conclusion that player mindset is important when playing Spelunky. A player needs to be relaxed and patient to play with the realization that they will die………………… a lot. Once the player goes in with this in mind and laughs off the stupid deaths, they’re in for a good time.

 Spelunky

Yep, this'll probably kill me too...

Other than Spelunky, I played a little more of Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed also. I decided to mix it up a little and used BD Joe from Crazy Taxi instead of Sonic. BD has max stats in top speed but most of his other stats are below par. It was a nice change for a while but I’ll probably stick with Sonic long term. He’s the typical all-rounder.

 BD

Look at that smile

Anyway, have a lovely Friday folks and enjoy the weekend! I hope you’re all not totally hindered by snow.

I like Spelunky but I think it is too small for my eyes on Vita.  It's a good system for it, but I wish it was slightly bigger.  Maybe it is available for Wii U?  That would be cool.

I just hold the screen really close Smile I like these pick up and play games much more on the Vita. I'm not sure i'd have the patience to keep losing this quickly on the PS3 and having to restart. I generally go for longer game sessions on the home consoles.

The wife and I went a bit overboard this weekend and finished it in two sittings between Friday and Saturday night, Very good show. Kevin Spacey is amazing.

Exactly what I would have done had I finished all my work.

At least you're feeling a little better. I've read a lot of good things about Spelunky, just hope I get around to getting it for myself.

Yeah it's a decent game but unapologetically tough

I usually play as Ulala or Tails in the Sonic racing game.

I'll try to mix it up a little. Variety is the spice of life and all that. I have a bunch of more characters to unlock so i'll see if anyone really interesting to me unlocks

Is there a Crazy Taxi level in Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing? Cause I would definitly play that level if The Offspring is also blasting as the song of the level.

I don't think i've come across a Crazy Taxi level yet but there may be. Many a time IRL that I had The Offspring blasting from my radio as I drove around haha

I think in all the times I tried Spelunky on the 360 I got out of the mines maybe once. I haven't tried much of the game on the Vita. I think Joe is my go to on Sonic Racing. That game is a lot of fun but I really need to jump back in and unlock more of it.

I think the vita is perfect for Spelunky with it's quick start gameplay. It's so hard though. The game is apparently full of secrets but I doubt I'll ever see any of them at this stage.

Joe's good but he's no Sonic Laughing
