Goemon started out on the NES very early on. Apparently he's based on a real Japanese ninja thief several centuries ago. This particular game in the Goemon series is a two-player action game which mixes in RPG elements and platforming sections. Goemon and his friend Ebisumaru investigate some kind of ghost woman who's been haunting their village. This throws them into a huge adventure which will take them to many locations. The game has a crazy sense of humor. You can go into shops and buy things, roam around and defeat enemies, or find your next destination to fight a crazy boss. The unique setting, fun gameplay, crazy humor, and superb oriental music all work together to make this one awesome ninjatastic game. It may very well be the best game in the series.

I want to say I watched Game Grumps play this, but I can't remember everything about it.

There's a lot involved in this game, and it's all awesome.

Indeed, it is real, genuine fun (a bit of a challenge too, but that's not a bad thing).

Yeah the Goemon game series is really big in Japan.  I played the SNES game, but I hated missing out on Mystical Ninja 64 and Goemon's Great Adventure (both on N64).  There is even a Goemon anime, and it was brought over to US DVDs years back.  I have them, actually.  It's a funny little cartoon.

I can only imagine how goofy and funny that anime must be! I'll have to check it out.

This is one of my favorite games and I hadn't played it in forever.
