Hello fellow Pixlbit folks! It’s Friday, I’m running on a couple of hours of sleep, and for many of you good folks, you’re going to be celebrating Valentine’s Day with your special people. I’m single so I’m going to be spending money on myself and I will probably be hitting the local mom & pop music store today along with a couple of thrift stores. Since it is Friday it is time for another Quick Hits with Chris. Today I thought I would go over my thoughts about the Olympics, Another game is knocked off Mount Backlog, and of course pickups, so let’s get this party started!

The Olympics

Yeah I’ve been obsessed with watching as much of it as I can, whether it be through the various television channels, on my phone, or on the laptop/tablets, I’ve been taking in a lot of Olympic coverage, and I do have some thoughts about some events

This was me early this morning trying to kill off my battery on my phone so I could charge it. I actually stayed up to watch Team USA vs Germany in Curling. It was a good match and there was some drama but Team USA came away with the win.

One of my favorite celebrations

Team USA sweeping Slopestyle

Katie Uhlaender uniform screams America.

I don’t know who he is but his helmet is badass Rebel Pilot helmet. I now believe Hoth is in Russia.

Speaking of skeleton, how crazy are these athletes? Let’s ride a sled going down an track made of ice, going 90 mph face first. As much as I like to think I could do some of these events, there’s no way I’m touching skeleton. Props to these athletes.

I actually turned away from this slopestyle event and what happenes? I miss a skier from Sweden reference the Wu Tang Clan. This guy carried an egg because he saw it on Cool Runnings, and now does this. He has been added to random athletes I'm rooting for.

What is up with Figure Skating? It seems like every other person is falling during their routine? Also the music is picking up with programs that involve AC/DC, Santana, Prince, and the Beatles. I like Classical but it’s refreshing to hear something different.

Another Game Off Mount Backlog

So I bought this game last week, and spent last weekend playing through the storyline and now I am just trying to collect everything and get that elusive 100% and Platinum Trophy #4

If you have ever played any of the previous Lego games you know what to expect: fight bad guys, collect studs, find hidden items that unlock goodies, and search for red bricks. There are cut scenes from the movie and I think they could have been in a much higher quality but it’s not a big distraction. The characters in this game are varied, and spread throughout the Lego Universe. The characters from Ninjago, to the special released minifigures are represented, and any Lego fan will say “hey I remember X character from this set”.

While playing this game I made sure to not listen to any audio from the game, and tuned out the cut scenes. I know the actual gameplay was giving away some of the movie’s plot, it wasn’t a big spoiler for me. The one gripe with this game is once again there are some obvious bugs like having some characters not trigger an event, and being stuck in a loop, or your teammate not moving so you can progress. Unlocking most of the red bricks isn’t a problem, and searching for the extra goodies is always a plus. The one thing I do like is when you achieve “The Special” (when you fill up the Lego stud meter on the top of the screen) a snippet of Everything’s Awesome is played.

I enjoyed this game, but if you’re a casual fan you might want to wait for a drop in price before picking up this game.

Pickups!

Games

While walking around the GameStop earlier this week, I found another DS game to add to the library

It was in the bargain bin on the counter. I had to wait a bit because GameStop guy was there*

*I don’t know if you have these guys in your local GameStop, but these guys seem to camp out at the counter and want to talk games. It’s cool if for a couple of minutes, but it seems like dude has been there for a while. Don't be this guy.

When he finally moved I swooped in and started looking. There are a lot of Nintendogs games, but I found Metroid Pinball after a couple of minutes and I knew it was time for me to bounce.

I wanted to play something Olympics because of all my Olympics viewing so I picked this up for a couple of bucks

So far I played some of the Luge and the Super G. Short Track is difficult for me for some reason, I might just need a lot of practice. The Skiing wasn’t bad and is similar to the Bode Miller game.

The local Big Lots is blowing out their video game section so everything there is 50% off. The only things left are for Wii and the 3DS/DS. I wonder if the employees bought all the 360 and PS3 games…or reseller guy. Anyways I picked these games up

I picked up my first Professor Layton game!

 Books

I added another audiobook while picking up some stuff at the Costco. What was odd was that this was my 2nd trip there where I didn’t leave with a hot dog or a pizza.

Well Pixlbit I’m going to cut this short because I’m heading out.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

That eagle helmet is intense, and I remember a figure skater a while ago that used lots of Metallica (his favorite band)

I want to see the LEGO Movie. Getting rave reviews, looks good.

I want Metroid Pinball and Rythym Heaven.

Hey look, Tom Clancy.

I think that same skater was at these games but he skated to AC/DC.

I still haven't seen Lego Movie. I might check it out later on this week. Everyone I talked to about it, and some folks on Facebook all love it.

I know of some people like that whenever I head to the two Gamestops near me. I'm more the type to get whatever it is I need and get out of there as quickly as possible.

Me too, look for your game and leave. It's fine to talk a couple of minutes here and there but to be camped out is just crazy.

I don't really watch the Olympics but there are a lot of really cool athletes in it.

Big Lots never thought to look there for games. Interesting I might stop by my local one on my way to the thrift shop.

Skeleton is CRAZY!!!! It is one of the few things that when I watch it my heart starts racing and I get really nervous. Who came up with that? I give props to anyone to attempts to try that  event, let alone competes in the olympics.

There's some interesting stuff at Big Lots especially for games. Awhile back I picked up both DJ Hero and DJ Hero 2 with turntables for $20 there. They also have an interesting selection of Blu-ray's and DVDs.

Skeleton is one crazy sport. The guy who invented it was crazy, but it was probably the X-Games of his day.

Unwound Future was my first Layton game. I made it all the way through too. Then I collected all the others and can't wait for Azran Legacy in a few weeks.

I haven't popped it in yet (I've been caught up in another game) but everyone loves these games. I want to see if I'll get caught up in it too...after I finish my game

I usually can't stand puzzle games, but I tried it on a rental and really got into it. You can't really get stuck because you can get hints until you figure it out. You get less points for taking hints, but you get past it.
