GLAD Ads ... and House of Cards

No, Netflix isn't adding ads to its content, don't worry.

I watched the first episode of House of Cards Season 2 today as I code ads for my professor, so I'm gonna try to figure out how I can code (meaning, he gave us 296 ads and asked us to describe each character in them using his criteria for domestic/non-domestic, alpha/beta and other males and females as well as note whether voiceovers are male or female) those ads at what I feel would be breaks in the show, had it aired on TV as originally planned. I know I need to code 21 or 22 ads per each of the 13 episodes, but so far I've just been watching an episode the whole way through, then coding the ads afterwards ... or so I say I will, cause I only watched the first episode and definitely haven't coded as many ads as necessary. In fact, I've only coded 1 after the episode ended, for a total of 14.

By the way, if you're questioning my math, I had already coded 13 ads before starting House of Cards up again.

Anyway, holy shit that episode! I mean please never use CGI for something like that again (maybe it was practical, it was a quick cut), but damn. How are they gonna top this? As characters get more and more unlikeable, I get more and more intrigued.

Anyway, that's all I've done today besides take a shower. I need to replace a light bulb, and I remembered I have a Wal Mart gift card, so I'm gonna work out and then go shopping. Usually, I'd just go to a store closer to me (not that Wal Mart is any more than 10,15 minutes away by car, if that), but Gamestop and Game X Change are also close to Wal Mart, plus I'll have more options as far as candy sales in the bigger store like Wal Mart.

Y'all have a nice day. It's finally Spring in Texas! Laughing

This came up when Googling "Funny House of Cards," so I went with it.

Ruthless Pragmatism on my part.

Read a lot of good things about House of Cards, really wish I had Netflix.

I love it, and I feel it's worth the $8 ... that my mom is paying and letting me use.

I got Netflix but I'm having trouble finding the time to use it. I have this disc sitting here now for almost two weeks unwatched. Between writing and gaming, I just can't seem to get to it. I may cancel. But then again... so much stuff I want to see.

I only have streaming, not the discs, but sometimes I wonder if I want to get the discs too, so I can have new stuff; then I remember I could just walk to Red Box. Of course, I do miss out on their bigger library for older movies.

I need to check out House of Cards. It sounds like it would be a good replacement for the one political show I loved (Boss) but got cancelled.

I never heard of Boss, that's too bad.

Oh Boss was a Starz show, which is probably why it didn't do too well. It starred Kelsey Grammar as the Mayor of Chicago and it dealt with how dirty politics is. It lasted only two seasons but I liked it.

Sounds like Kevin Spacey in HoC is Grammar from Boss ... now I think I remember hearing of that show. Wasn't he supposed to win an Emmy for that one, and said he got screwed cause of his conservatism?

Yup. Sad because he did such a good job. I think it would be on the air still if it were on HBO, Showtime, or even Netflix, seeing how big House of Cards is.

Thank you for reminding me why I dropped out of that class when I was in college.

I need to watch House of Cards. I have it saved on my account but just not got around to it yet. Plus The Clone Wars enticed me.

I need to watch the rest of the House of Cards season two.

You took a graduate media research class in college?

that along with a handful of other courses ranging from medicine to engineering to basic computer language to even some police/political sceince among other things. It was during my young time when I didn't know what I wanted to do so I took a stab at anything I could. I learned much but didn't get anything to show for it besides massive student loan debt.

Media research was one of the two grad courses I was able to take with my credientals. The other was psychology. I even tried my hand at biblical studies but had a hard time with the New King James. Jack of all trades and master of none can a apply to alot. Sadly I've forgotten most of it thanks in part to the lifestyle ideas I got from the fictiicious Sherlock Holmes.

The New King James? Is that different from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, or just a different name for the same version? Is it like a mix of the KJV and the New International Version (NIV)? The one I have is The Catholic Good News Bible w/ Apocrypha, I think. I think if I go to biblegateway.com, I usually go with NIV. I'm guessing it's the "Old English-y" language that gave you a problem with the KJV?

the NKJV is suppose to be more refined translation of the KJV that keeps with that translation but at the same time is a bit more understanable to read in english. I'm not sure if it was meant to go toe to toe with the NIV version but perosnally I never noticed much of a difference between the NKJV and the NIV, I still couldn't understand either of them.

I'm a New Century Version person myself, I got it as a gift from a female classmate in highschool that noticed I was struggling with the word. I don't see the NCV version anymore (my copy is weathered and dogged-eared) but I liked that version best because it actually was translated in STRAIGHT ENGLISH. Aside from "omitting" the holy trinity, the NCV hasn't failed me yet.

You are right that the Old English is what threw me. try as I might I just coun't understand it. It realy sucked too when I was forced to memorize verses and those words wouldn't stick. It's one of the reasons why i dropped out of the biblical classes when it was expected of us to comprehend the KJV, which was understandable.
