Released: 1991

Systems: Arcade, Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD, Sega Mega-CD, SNES

Developer: SNK

Publisher: SNK

This classic beat 'em up stars a ninja and a cowboy (interesting combination...). The plot is simple: an evil Japanese dude unleashes hordes of undead feudal Japanese warriors; that's right, you fight zombies in this game! There's the basic beat 'em up controls: attack and jump, but the unique part of the game is the transformations. When a certain enemy is defeated, these transformations can become available. There are three different transformations in the game: a samurai warrior, an armor-clad wolf, and a very agile ninja. There are also colored orbs you can collect for extra things, such as extra health and magical attacks. If nothing else, Sengoku may have the strangest team-up in video game history.

I played this on a SNK collection. It was weird. I never did get into many SNK games besides Metal Slug for some reason. I could play those all day long.

It is a weird game, but SNK still pumped out some solid games (the KOF series is really fun; check out my review of KOF 95 from Saturday).

I loved this game.  It was the first game a beat at the arcade.  My friend & I kept playing until we made it to the end.  A few years back, I bought it for my NeoGeo.

Awesome! So it holds a special place in your heart. We all have games like that.

Yet another game I haven't played. Cowboys, Ninjas and Zombies, such an odd combination.

Odd, yet awesome (only because of the ninja, of course)!

I never got into this game when it first came out in arcades, but years later I played it on one of the SNK collections and thought it was awesome.

I think it takes some time to get used to, but given the time, it can be very awesome.
