Linked to Article Series: Blog a Day (BaD) 2014

Just a quick one, I'm tired.

Playing: I'm close to the point of no return in Tales of Xillia, so I've spent a couple of days trying to get what trophies I can before going off to face the final fight. There are more that I could get, but I think I've reached the "bored now" phase and I'm probably just going to go face Gaius tomorrow and finish Jude's main story. I'll see how I feel about things after that and may or may not play through as Milla. I have some thoughts on the game, but that will be another blog.

I also downloaded the last of the Season Two tables for Pinball Arcade. They're all kind of meh at first try, but maybe they'll grow on me.

Reading: Not much. I've pretty much just been gaming and watching movies/TV shows.

Watching: I finished NYPD Blue just before I cancelled my Amazon Prime membership. I'm now watching a British crime show called Waking the Dead. Think of a cross between CSI and Cold Case (minus the ridiculous flashbacks), but better and grittier. I also watched Crocodile Dundee 2. Boy, that movie has not held up well at all. Kinda cringe-worthy in spots, actually. And I'm in the middle of Wolverine and the X-Men.

Listening: Some Billy Idol, some Clash, some Pogues, lots of Midnight Oil and Social Distortion.

Other stuff: I've missed my monthly sea music session three months running now. I was sick in December, and I've missed the last two months due to snow storms. Kinda getting antsy now.

This year, due to being flat broke, I made the bulk of my Christmas presents, and I've also been embroidering Celtic knot work patterns for friends recently. Thought I'd share some of the stuff I've been making:

Most of the Christmas stuff before I got it mounted and framed.

The finished products are here, along with my other needle work projects.

My most recent Celtic pattern. Made it for my friends Fred and Julia, for their newly finished Great Room. I didn't make the pattern, it's from a pattern book.

Jason and I went and poked around one of the Bull Moose Music stores today. It's probably lucky that I have no disposable income at the moment, as their retro section was looking pretty good. I did have to laugh at the $34 price on the GC Tales of Symphonia, though, when the PS3 remake is coming out for $40. Older stuff is more reasonably priced, I came across a NES copy of Dragon Warrior for $9, which is their standard price for NES carts, regardless of title.

I'm off to transform my futon from couch to bed. See ya all later!

With sites like ebay now, it's rare that I get the urge to check out retro games in real stores. I used look at the retro games, think I found rarity and jump at buying it. Now I know I can check online and get almost any game for a decent price at any time. There are exceptions though, maybe some fool out there is selling Panzer Dragoon Saga for $20 in a pawn shop.

There's too much chance involved for me to feel comfortable using ebay and the like. Plus I like supporting local area businesses. Bull Moose guarantees everything that they sell, even used stuff. Plus, I get rewards points, which comes in handy at Christmas.

I saw Waking the Dead on Netflix, but I didn't know what it was about.  My wife likes crime dramas.  She likes to watch Bones, Criminal Minds, and SVU.  She may like Waking the Dead too.

She's probably like it. I do recommend watching it with the subtitles on, as the combination of the accents and lo voices can cause you to miss stuff.

Wait is Crocodile Dundee 2 where they go to Austraila and I think the girl gets taken?

Your needle work is freaking awesome! That is such a better gift than something store bought.

That's the movie. But she gets taken before they leave New York.

Aw, shucks! Thanks :) It's fun and relaxing, too. Plus, I can kind of watch TV while I'm doing it. My uncle was really into needlework and he left me all of his cross stitch supplies when he died - I have an entire small U-Haul packing box of just pattern books, another of frames, floss (that's what the thread is called), and fabric, and two smallish Rubbermaid boxes of other assorted supplies. I've been doing cross-stitch since I was nine or ten and we kids were driving my mom and grandma insane, so they taught the five or six of us cousins and best friends how to cross stitch. I think I'm the only one who actually took it up as a long-term hobby, my sister was into it for a while, but I think she associates it with a bad time in her life so she gave me all of her stuff.

I kinda get like that too when it comes to acheivement/trophy hunting. When the game starts to becoming a chore/boring is when I know I should stop with the hunt and just finish the game.
