On the gaming front, I'm at chapter 14 in Ghost Trick and it's getting good. Close to the end now. It's actually turning out to be a good supernatural mystery story, as the game gives you enough hints that you could figure out from clues what's going on before you're told, but I've been surprised in a good way by all the reveals so far. It's an "oooohh, that makes sense in this universe; I like what they did there" situation. I think I know who the real killer is, but I'm very curious to find out if I'm right. NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!
The game itself, however, sometimes does frustrate me or make me feel a bit dumb. In particular, a certain stage involving armored knights and spherical objects should have made sense sooner than it did, but what I really hated was making one wrong move and when I went back to the start of the level, having to stop for too long on two objects (a paper and a medicine bottle) for too damn long. Especially egregious was having to scroll through the text that appears when possessing the medicine bottle every damn time.
Still, it's a fun, interesting title, with a great story and unique gameplay, and hey look, Cary's favorite character is back!
The characters in this game are also great.
Once I was done playing Ghost Trick, I watched Bennett the Sage's review of the HBO Spawn cartoon series from the late 90s.
I was always intrigued by Spawn as a kid, and I think his SNES game was the first time I noticed the Y-7 rating on game boxes. But maybe not, cause the box art on the Wikipedia page shows a K-A rating. Hmmm ...
I also wanted to see the movie really bad as a kid. I saw parts of it as an adult on TV and ... I guess I wasn't missing anything as a kid, really.
I'll give Todd McFarlane credit: he predicted Juggalos ... and they ARE hellspawns.
I never knew McFarlane was behind some of my favorite designs in terms of comic book characters, but Venom and Spawn are two characters that I recall being very prominent in the 90s, and two of my favorite designs as far as comic book characters.
I remember my older brother had Marvel trading cards that looked similar and had character info on the backs
Their designs are dark, muscular, menacing, have slanted white eyes for whatever reason, and to me as a kid and even now, just plain look cool. I want to say McFarlane is known for being sometimes too detailed in his artwork, but I love it. I wish I had my older brother's birthday gift drawing to me for one of my birthdays way-back-when of Spider-Man on a cliff that looked awesome. It's still in my parents' house's hallways, but I wish I had a picture; it was incredibly detailed and great.
Anyway, since Bennet the Sage seemed to like the first season of the show, I started watching it on Youtube last night. I remember seeing a part of it as a kid in a hotel, but I couldn't tell you which episode, so I was curious. It actually seems pretty good so far, but even better is that the voices are really quiet for some reason, which was great for me getting some sleep having it on my laptop in the background.
Speaking of laptop noises helping me sleep, the night before I had tried a not-so-instrumental "instrumental" study/sleep playlist on Spotify that was ok until people started singing. Seriously, what the hell? The songs were decent, but vocals wake me up and my ears and mind start focusing on them. So instead I listened to a rain generator, which is a damn godsend! I have it on in my office right now, in fact. It's actually raining outside today, which is awesome. I think if I moved to Seattle, I would feel soothed at all times. Sounds great to me. As an indoorsy type for the most part, it kind of makes being indoors seem justifiable. There's a certain calm and removal of guilt when I'm inside and it's raining, where if I have to spend a day inside when it's sunny and hot, I feel gross and uncomfortable walking outside or staying where I am, and staying inside makes me feel strangely guilty for missing the weather. Sunlight peering through the blinds is the worst. I just want to sleep, dammit!
Anyway, the extra sleep Spawn gave me allowed me to wake up early and do my cardio. I've been trying to wake up earlier so I can work out in the mornings, be done with it, feel good for the rest of the day, and just enjoy my time more. Hopefully the trend continues.
All I got now is getting back to actually working in my office, getting my 150g+ of protein and 2000-3500 calories in today, and class at 4pm. What are you all up to?
