Silent Hill 2 HD - Foggy Memories

I can't believe how long ago Silent Hill 2 was released. I've had the HD collection sitting wrapped up on my shelf for a while and finally decided to play it again after all these years. In case you didn't know, Silent Hill 2 & 3 were remade in HD and sold as a collection on one disc a while ago. So far I've just finished playing Silent Hill 2.

What I remembered about the game is that it was a sort of stand alone story that wasn't directly tied into the first game aside from sharing the same town. I'm sure some experts around here will correct me on that. I think Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to the events in Silent Hill 1. I really loved the Survival Horror genre of the PS1 PS2 gen and I really wish for more of these types of games to be made.

I feel like replaying SH1 before getting into SH3, for story consistency, but I think the PSOne game might be a bit too outdated for me to easily get into. I also read that Shattered Memories is a sort of re-make of the first game and rearranges some of the plot or something. I know SH4 is a stand alone game as well, having little resemblance to the previous games in terms of game play.

While I think some elements of the game play of Silent Hill 2 HD are a bit outdated, for instance I missed a lot of important items because they weren't obviously highligted in any way even when I was standing in front of them which made me back track a lot and lookup a few guides, I still think that the stories characters and atmosphere are pretty great. The game is still really good considering its age.

Now on to play through the whole series. Starting with Silent Hill 1, then 3, Shattered Memories, 4, Homecoming and then Downpour.

I bought the first game as aa PS1 Classic off PSN, but the controls are horrible and I just can't get past that. I'm bummed, too, because so many people rave about this game.

I hate the tank controls, they usually kill a game for me too but somehow I've managed to finish the game twrice.

Im a bit concerned about the controls as well. But I really want to complete the whole series.Controls didn't bother me so much with Silent Hill 2.

I missed out on this series when it came out, and I feel like I woudn't really enjoy it now.  It's too bad, the games seem cool.

I think that the games story and environment is still worth a play through. I really enjoy the Survival Horror genre. SH2 is just a really great game in my opinion.

Homecoming is the definite low point for the series. Downpour improves on things but has it's own problems. Shattered Memories I couldn't play on Wii because the wiimote/nunchuk combo did not work for me. I bought it again on PSP but never got around to playing it.

You need to play Origins too. It's not the best but it's worth playing.

I played Origins and I thought it was good. It definitely recycled elements, and as a prequel felt a bit forced, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think Shattered memories was released for PS2 as well.

I never played these in their heyday, but a demo for Silent Hill 3 in an old OPM scared the crap out of me.

Its just a game. You aren't in any real danger. LOL!

And that's why Eternal Darkness scared, pissed me off and impressed me so much: that very real (but actually fake) erasure of all my data nearly gave me a heart attack.

Love that game too.

Most people will tell you SH2 was the highpoint of the series. I loved it too but SH 1 & SH3 edged slightly above it in my eyes. Regardless, it's a good series. To be frank, I enjoyed Homecoming too. I know it gets flak for being "from an American developer" but if you immerse yourself and pay attention, it's not much different from the older games. Origins surprised me in a good way too.

I really do love SH2. After a recent replay, I think it still holds up as a great game. Its dark and weird and creepy. It did get me wondering about the lore and mythology about the game. Not many games make me care about that stuff. I want to get through the whole series.

I like the Silent Hill series a lot, though I've only played 2 and Shattered Memories. SH2 is such a great game but it's because of the story and atmosphere. Shattered Memories is good too. I played the Wii version, which is what I'd suggest doing. It makes good use of the remote. It's a very loose remake of the original. There's no cult or anything, for instance. I want to play more games in the series but I'm not sure where to go from here.

I think SH3 is also a fan favorite of the series. Im playing through SH1, although its a bit tough because the game is kind of old and outdated, but it is essential for lore background. The issue with the rest of the games in the series is that they became kind of stale and the story peaked with SH2. Shattered Memories is a reimagining of SH1, and is probably easier to play than SH1. SH4 is loosely connected to SH2, mostly due to characters mentioned in text files from 2 and the thing about holes in the wall. I still much prefer the Resident Evil series, but I really want to complete this series as well, since I have time and all. You should just play 3 now since it is another fan favorite, or try Origins since it is a prequel and predates Downpour and Homecoming.

I just recently restarted playing the series. I love the HD remake of SH2.  I also have SH Origins for the PS2. I havent finished SH Origins yet but the amount I've played so far it is an excellent game.

I played Origins on PSP when it launched. I thought it was pretty good, but not compared to SH2. I'm actually spending more time outside of the SH2 game just reading about theories and mythology of the game. Its kind of like Dark Souls in that way. They just dont write interesting games like that any more.
