Well Happy Tuesday Pixlbit! Oh the end of BaD is coming but we still have some things to write and pictures to share so let’s keep it going! For today’s Grab Bag Week topic, I thought I’d share one of my newer favorite albums that I happened to stumble upon.

A couple of years ago when I was looking for song covers for a playlist and I discovered this album by the group The Bird and the Bee. I haven't listened to any of their original work other than the first track on this album, and I didn't know much about them because their stuff is hard to find around these parts.

My iTunes for The Bird and the Bee

How do you not like a group who releases an album of Hall and Oates covers (even the song hated by Adam Carolla Maneater)

I’m not going to lie, I like Hall & Oates, they’re one of the groups I remember listening to growing up, and it stuck. What I like about The Bird and the Bee’s version is that it’s very indie pop with a synth and solid vocals. They don't have that same soulful power of Daryl Hall but they do give new life to these songs with that pop goodness. I find these types of cover albums to be interesting to see if the artists have different interpretations or try to go Karaoke with the work.

This is a fun summer pop album and I think it’s worth a listen to the casual pop fans.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

We're gonna have to agree to disagree about these kinds of covers ... lol.

Curse you, Chris! Curse you! I had just managed to exorcise "I Can't Go For That" (heard in thegroery store five days ago) from my brain with mass doses of Aimee Mann and now you've brought it back! Going to have to go find The Dropkick Murphies this time, I'm afraid.

Oh I Can't Go For That is one of those songs that does get stuck in your head. I mean Where Do You Dare Me To Draw The Line... (I'm so sorry but I had to Smile, but at least this means more Dropkick Murphys for you)

Thank goodness I'm not familiar with that song, so it can't get stuck in my head!

Well there 3 of my favourite H&O tracks covered here.

She's Gone, Sara Smile and One on One. I've been a huge Hall and Oates fan since a friend cam over with Abandoned Luncheonette back in the day.

I'm a sucker for vocal harmony and melody and those guys are two of the best.

Awesome another person who likes Hall & Oates! Love their stuff, one of my prized thrift store finds was one of their albums printed in Canada (such a random find)

I liked those covers a lot. Haven't listened to that much Hall & Oates, need to change that.

You have to give them a listen, you might like them.

Abandoned Luncheonette is a great place to start. Their earlier albums had a better balance in terms of both their vocals. Later albums became more Hall and less Oates

Probably cause of Reagan. When they started advertising sugary cereals to kids, it was all down Hall for Oats.

"Rich Girl" is such a great song.

Here's Hall & Oats in '76 on The Old Grey Whistle Test, a TV show in Britain that showcased live music. This is truely live. No stupid lip sync stuff. I rented the DVD collection of Old Grey Whistle Test a while back. Tons of great performances there.
