It has been ages since I played Pokemon...well not really. I have Pokepark 1 & 2 for Wii (Does that really count?) I guess in terms of main titles I have failed to play anything. I only bought the Heart Gold Remake due to the fact that Gold was also the last game I played respectively. It's odd to think I've skipped on the 3rd through 7th generations (I think thats how many there are)

However, this isn't really about how much I've been lacking in Pokemon...it's about the staying power of the franchise. Long ago I thought the series would die out. I mean think of all the other similarly themed franchises that ended. Digimon was pretty good and I enjoyed it as a kid, however Digimon is no longer around. I'm not sure if it was able to maintain relevancy to fight against Pokemon or if Namco Bandai felt that it was time to end things. Either way I doubt I will get a definitive answer.

Or take another example in Monster Rancher. Another series that came and went, but also was pretty enjoyable at least the anime was.  I am not sure about the games...never had the chance to play them myself...same goes for Digimon. And then there are the Dinosaur Kings or Mix Masters, etc. All have seemingly fallen where Pokemon has stayed the course.

But why has Pokemon done so? It's followed a very successful formula I'm sure. After all if it ain't broke don't fix it. Sure we've come a long way from Pokemon of old. Now we have 3 Dimensional plains, Better animation, over 750 Pokemon are now available, mega evolutions, a new fairy type, 3-3 battles, EV Training, etc. But the pattern stays true....Go on an adventure: check, rival you can't stand?: check, get 8 badges: check, defeat an evil organization: check, beat the elite 4 and become champion: check, and finally....catch em all.

And the games still sell out. People still trade and battle each other worldwide. With a new generation comes new Pokemon and new Pokemon fans...and perhaps that is why it has stayed. I know I grew up with Pokemon and loved it....then when my nephews were visiting me I happened to come across watching Pokemon with them (I believe it was the Black & White region Unova) Ash, Cilan (who I had no idea about), Iris (Another partner I was unfamiliar with) Where was Brock? I wondered...my nephew answered to me he left last season, new art/animation style, new voice actors, and the entire time I thought to myself....man I got old.

But they loved it too. They have the games and I showed them how to play when they were stuck. It's a generational staying power. I happened to glance by and noticed that within the aisles of Wal-Mart (Because I like to spy on the competition lol) that there are still Pokemon cards and decks being sold. Pokemon toys are still being made...heck they still have movies! (LIKE 15 OR SO! GEEZ!)

All I know is that Pokemon has a power. It will continue to grow until Gamefreak decides to no longer continue with the series and Satoshi Tajiri is finished. I'm sure when I'm 50 there will still be Pokemon...and when I die there will still be Pokemon. It's just going to grow and grow. But maybe it's time to try and return to the series I used to know...maybe I'm better off reminiscing like the old fart that I am. Still, I find myself in amazement. What are your Pokemon memories? Do you still play or even watch it? Comments and feedback are always appreciated!

I haven't played a Pokemon since Blue and watched Digimon and Yu-Gi Oh well after I stopped watching Pokemon as a little one.Speaking of which, I think Yu-Gi Oh cards are still pretty successful.

Honestly, it all really pisses me off, cause if the series would just die off already, my cards would be rare enough to justify all the eBay price-gouging I want to do.

Ha ha. Yeah I hear Yu-Gi-Oh is the new pokemon. I haven't gottent into it other than The Abridged Series, but I hear they do like duels on motorcycles for no reason or something now. I still have pokemon cards as well from the first generation. I don't think I could find it in my heart to sell them though.

Digimon is still around.  It's an online PC game.  I get press releases about it all the time.

I didn't know there was an online PC game. I thought that once the anime stopped airing that it would die off. Though again I could be wrong. I could've sworn they finished it in Japan. Good to know it's still around

Geez, you're really out of date with Pokemon :P

Anyway, since you seemed confused about the Black & White anime (I never saw it but know some of it), Cilan is the Brock of that series, where he's also one of the first trainers from Black & White and when defeated, decided to go with Ash on his journey. Iris is also a gym trainer, only that it's from much later in the game and also acompanies Ash.

If you want to get up to date on newer Pokemon games, I recommend to try Platinum, which is a perfect intro to the next games after that one.

Ah well thanks fo the refresher. Like I said everything was just sort of new and Team Rocket was sort of competent in actually achieving things that I was just sort of awestruck. Also thanks for the recommendation. I'll look into the games like Diamond, etc.
