Gaming update March

Last night before I went to sleep I tried the demo for Sly cooper on my Vita. Although it was short of course, I may check this one out.  I have never played the series before.  I loved the story build up and playing as all 3 characters, the only character I didn't like playing as in my short time was the hippo dude.  Sly reminded me a little of Crash Bandicoot gameplay from way back with better story.  How does the rest of the game play?

I am trying to be more responsible with my game purchases and backlog with the new Xbox One.  So my goal is to finish the games before buying anything new.  lol  so who hasn't been here before....  Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5 are the true Standouts so far.  Dead Rising 3 is a game I just keep coming back to.  I'm almost through my 2nd play through and whenever I put it in to play for just a few minutes, hours seem to pass.  Killing Zombies somehow seems to get more fun the more you play.  I'm loving the replay value on this one.

Forza is pretty awesome too.  I haven't played it in several weeks but I am not a typical racing fan.  I bought it just to try it and it has awesome replay value as well.  That's another game that hours pass before I realize it when I am blowing off some steam after work.  I agree with the reviews.  It's GREAT, but there are not enough tracks.  They really need to add more of those in a update, if that's even possible.

I also tried Ryse.  It's pretty good.  Graphics are awesome and yes the gameplay can be a little boring although I find it boring for slightly different reasons than most reviews.  I don't mind the slow down assasination bits.  lol in fact it took me going through 75% of the story before I figured out how to pull it off.  My problem with boring is the "kill mass amount of ememies by sword,  use bow , march with troops to defend against arrows,  repeat" play through the campaign.  The only reason I'm trudging through isn't the graphics or play I just want to find out what the end is.   Anyway this game really is about the multiplayer.  It's only co-op and sometimes the wait seems a little long to get in a match BUT it is a blast to fight through the different levels of the coliseum.  I was surprised.  The fighting style that carries over from the story was not boring to me there because it just fit.  Wait to buy until it's really cheap.  I think it's only a 20.00/30.00 game.

Looking forward to picking up South Park today.  Reviews look pretty good so it shouldn't be another Family guy back to multi verse flop...yeaaa!!!

And my biggest battle is waitning for Garden Warfare to go cheaper.  I'm absolutely dying to play it but know it's not worth 40 bucks....... we'll see how long I hold out :)

See ya later!

Sly Cooper and Sly 2 are two of my favorite games. I liked the first better, even though it was shorter and I beat it in a rental, cause you only play as Sly and it has so much replay value. They both had good stories, very Saturday morning cartoon, but more clever and with interesting and likeable characters.

All I can remember about the gameplay is stealth and platforming. Also, a boss that was beaten with some rythm-action gameplay in the first one. Never played a Crash title, so couldn't compare it, but Greenman probably could, I'm pretty sure he's played both.

Forza games never really impressed me from kiosks I've played or seen, but I can't judge too much given my limited experience. Dead Rising was ok from what little I played on a friend's 360, but again, not enough experience with it to make a judgment call. I'm glad you enjoy Ryse, those and your One so far, though! I really want a PS4 and 3DS myself, but my monthly entertainment budget is at a little under $50 right now, so we'll see if I save enough or have it gifted. Might get some birthday money soon, so we'll see.

Is Garden Warfare to do with Plants vs. Zombies? I might have seen a bunch of trailers for it ... in fact, it may have been one of the ads I coded for my prof's research, are there giants and a skeleton that kills itself with a bomb next to a wall in that?

Yes Garden Warfare is Plants vs Zombies but I think the commercial you coded for was for something else.  I've seen that commercial on TV (which is pretty awesome) and I thought it was for some ios tower defense game.  I can't remember the name of it.  So you helped code for that commercial??

Yeah, there are 292 ads I had (/will have to, procrastinated a bit) to tell my professor the following for:

Male vs. Female vs. Both vs.None for V.O.

And then for major characters in an ad, I had to tell him

1. Male or Female

2. Beta or Alpha

3. Domestic or Non-Domestic

4. Other

He's doing content analysis research on gender/sex in ads, so he's using us as his pilot study coder group.

That sounds pretty awesome.  Altough I don't know a whole lot about coding language congrats.  That sounds like a big deal.  My only experience with coding is Visual Basic? in high school and a whole year of C++ in college.  It's been a while so I've forgotten a lot.

TOOOOOOTALLLY different kind of coding, sorry. lol

This has nothing to do with math on my end.

All I or this prof's other students are doing is being his pilot study people for his media research on gender roles in advertising.

He will have to do some stats stuff like Chi squares etc., but all we're doing is:

Watching an advertisinement

Noting what major characters appear in an advertisement.

Coding/describing whether the characters would be considered male or female, alpha or beta, domestic or non domestic, some other "uncodeable" category, and whether the announcer is male or female, something else, or there is no voice track on the ad.

The only math I'm having to do is count the number of domestic alpha females or beta non-domestic males etc. in any given ad.

I'm in the minority I didn't like Sly Cooper. It was the mandatory mini games. I despise most mini games and to have to play them in order to proceed just strike me as cheap. But everyone else seems to love it. Whatever. That's why there are lots of different games out there, to keep everyone happy. I really want the South Park game, but I'm probably going to have to wait until at least my birthday at the end of the month to get it. There is no spare money in my life at the moment for anything other than the bare essentials. Sigh. Let me know how it is.

I haven't been too much of a mini game fan myself.  I remember them in Twighlight Princess and played one or 2 but skipped most.  So Far South Park hilarious, shocking, and gross at the same time.... lol That's all I will say.  Let me know whenever you get to pick it up and we can compare notes :)

i haven't been into getting into Sly games yet either.  I've tried when they were free on PSN (or did I buy one) but it didn't take.

I really want to play South Park but my big game purchase this month is FFX/X2.  Can't wait for that.

I'm looking forward to FFX release too.  I'm excited it will be released on Vita.  Borderlands 2 and the God of War collection will be released on it too...  Although I don't have the cash left to purchase FFX when it comes out (or the others lol)  it makes me selling my PS3 more satisfying.

I need to get back to Sly. I remember enjoying most of it before getting stuck. I've heard some good and bad things about Forza but from my experiences with the previous ones, they've all been solid.

Yeah I still have mixed feelings about it.  It was interesting enough to make me curious but I'm unsure about buying it.  Forza just shocked me because I don't like racing games.  I haven't played one since Need for Speed hot pursuit on PS1.  It was a pleasant surprise because racing became fun again.  I tried a need for speed title recently on Vita but traded it back in.  I don't like the open world racing quest stuff.

I still kick myself for not buying the original Xbox Forza. I played it some of it and thought it was awesome.

Really want to play the Sly Cooper games. If I ever get a PS3, one of my first boughts will be the HD collection....... together with the HD collection of Jak & Daxter and Infamous lol.

I loved Infamous.  It was the 2nd game I bought for my PS3.  Wall climbing like Spiderman and superpowers......FUN!!!  I haven't played jak and daxter either.  I need to give those a try myself.

How are the title offerings for games on Xbox Live. Since I hear the removed the "arcade" descrption of some digital titles offered on there I just wonder if it's just as robust in digital offerings as it is on Xbox 360
