So the long-rumored Rocksteady game has been officially announced--and it's going to be the last entry in the Arkham series. It's set to come out this year (Gamestop lists it for October, according to IGN), and will be strictly for PC and next-gen platforms. I, for one, am glad to see that Rocksteady won't be shackled to 8-year old consoles in a cross-gen release. I want to see more developers take full advantage of the new boxes. Plus the PC version will be better as a bonus, LOL.

Arkham Origins didn't do much for me, and WB Montreal really shit the bed in terms of post launch patches and support, so I'm really pumped to see Rocksteady take the reigns back.

So how do you feel about this? Are you excited, or have you had your fill of Batman already?

I still need to buy and play City, but this sounds awesome for when I have a PS4.

The only Arkham game I've actually beaten is Asylum, LOL. Still have to finish City and Origins. :p

Well, Asylum is the only one I own or played at all, so ya beat me there.

Really don't like and can't get into City, so I'm not too pumped for this one. Was hoping they'd go back to something smaller again, but this one sounds even bigger than City. Also, no Wii U version, which is a bummer, though expected.

Expanding the scope of the game in City hurt it for me, as well. Arkham felt like a much more focused, tight experience, which made it far more enjoyable. The sheer size of City is a key reason why I haven't beaten it yet.

Still, the prospect of Rocksteady making a next-gen only Arkham game is too exciting to pass up.

Last October I played and loved Asylum. I've been trying to get into City this year and I'm about ready to give up on it and the game says I'm only 6% in. The combat is solid, the game looks good, and I haven't had any bugs, but the thing that's making it practically unplayable and unenjoyable is that I feel like City is wasting my time, which is probably the bigget gripe you can give an otherwise solid video game. Last week I was trying to simply find the next main story quest and it took me 20 minutes of dicking around to even figure out what the game was trying to get me to do. And during the entire process I was getting bombarded with nigh nonstop distractions about side-quests, the Riddler calling me on payphones, and accidently running into side-quests I didn't want any part of, which in turn take over as the active quest and derail me entirely.

Bad waypoint system, horrible ways to introduce side-quests, too much chatter and noise. It's the first time in a long time I feel like a game is watching me at all moments, which is uncomfortable, and it's just always talking to me and not being very coherent. I found a side-quest where I was suppose to go to the church and rescue some hostages, I thought it would be a nice quick contained mission but once I interacted with the quest and it took over as my active mission, I come to find out that there's a whole group of people to save and apparently none of them are at the church and they're all isolated. So I have to go outside, travel to the next waypoint to save one asshole, then I would assume that pattern continues and you travel all around the city to save idiots one by one. Once I realized how that mission was designed and it wouldn't be a short sweet experience I got really upset and quit. I feel like City is wasting my time and just being generally annoying in the worst ways an open world video game can. There's tons of garbage, filler, and quest designs that waste time and at best might let you do something fun for 30 seconds until you go back to 2 minutes of running around doing nothing.

I still  have to play the previous entrys even though I have no clue how except for City I  can get on the Wii U. I did  play the first one when I had my PS3, just never got to finish it.I am however prolly going to get it for the PS4.

The next-gen consoles' libraries are filling out quite nicely. I'm planning on getting one at the end of the year, and I'm sure there will be lots to play for it. Can't wait. :)

I agree the best news from this is that it's next gen only! A must buy!

I'm less excited.  I don't have a gaming worthy PC and who knows when I'll get a new console.  It will be years before I play the next Batman.

Have you played the others yet?

Played the first 2 games.  I thought the 1st game was better.

This just makes me curious as to why they even bothered making Origins.  I liked Blackgate, so I am glad that one came, but why Origins.

gigantor21

03/04/2014 at 06:13 PM

Yeah, this makes the Arkham Origins seem even more superfluous now. Still, it sold decently enough, so I doubt WB cares LOL.

Since Arkham Knight is next gen only I supppse they released Origins to try and supplement the sales that they will miss out on because of the lower install base of the ps4 and xbone.

I still need to play Asylum (I left my retail PC copy on Colombia), so still no City or Origins until I do the first game. Let's see if I can survive a year without it.

It also seems that except for Snee, everyone here thinks City and Origins are inferior to Asylum.

Really excited, especially to play as Haley Quinn. I've been reading all the comics about her lately. I don't know if it's enough to get me to by a next gen system though.

I really wasn't expecting this myself. when I heard the news it took me competely by surprise. Plus it just means I need to get on the ball and play the first two games they've made.
